About Jan or Jim McDaniel, owners

This photo is of the owners, hiking in one of hundreds of slot canyons in Escalante-Grand Staircase National Monument, east of Bryce Canyon. We love this area and will never tire of exploring it. And there is no end to the wonders available to explore!

Jan or Jim McDaniel, owners purchased this cabin in 2011

Why Jan or Jim McDaniel, owners chose Duck Creek Village

We have visited and enjoyed many of our nation's parks and wilderness areas. We think Southern Utah is one of the most beautiful areas in the country, with an array of what are some of the most beautiful and accessible national parks and monuments. We have been coming to the area for several years, drawn by the beauty and wide variety of outdoor activities. We finally decided we needed to own a little piece of this incredible place. With breathtaking natural wonders any way you drive, all within close proximity, you can't beat this location. If you love nature and experiencing the outdoors, as we do, you will be amazed at this part of southern Utah, and you will love our cozy and friendly cabin in Duck Creek.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Wow - we walked in the first night and were taken aback at how beautiful and cozy your cabin is. Much love and care you have put into your place! Everything we could ask for was here, along with much needed peace, relaxation, and solitude. This was our first time renting a home before, and we hit the JACKPOT! :-) Loved sitting on the porch, the smell of the fresh mountain air, and listening to the wind blow through the branches of the trees. Serenity!

Got some cute pictures of the birds that like to come visit your birdfeeders - they sound like finches? We took the Razor up to Strawberry Point and along many trails in the area, so much to explore! Saw 3 deer out on one of the rides.

We are SO grateful to you for sharing your cabin with us and others, giving us all something we all need....being in the moment!

Blessings to you both and much thanks!

Wonderful place, gorgeous cabin with many upgrades

  • 5 of 5
I loved the cabin and the area. We were so impressed when we arrived - the cabin has luxuries like underfloor heating in the bathroom, huge TV with all satellite channels (not that we had time to watch much - too much other great stuff to do!), and it was so well equipped. Every cooking utensil under the sun. We loved the fire pit too. Jan is absolutely lovely and so helpful. She even left us a gift for our arrival! It is so clean and beautifully decorated, it exceded our expectations. Jan doesn't oversell it, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but I was blown away when I saw it. Definitely would go back. The only slight problem was that the beds were rather hard. I do have a back problem so others may not notice too much. Thank you Jan for a wonderful stay!

Owner's Response: Ellie, thanks you for your lovely review. I am so happy that you and your friends from the UK had a great time on your visit to our area, and that you loved our cabin. I appreciate your comments about our newly remodeled bathroom - isn't it a treat to have that warm tile floor? I know it is a bit of a luxury for a log cabin, but I couldn't resist! I do hope you will be able to make it back again, on your next visit to SW Utah. You're always welcome as our guests! Cheers, Jan

Super Cute cottage in a beautiful location

  • 4 of 5
As above very cute, well appointed cabin. Very clean. The only negatives were the bathroom is probably ready for an overhaul. Additionally be prepared for an hour drive to Zion and at this time of the year dinning is limited to just outside Zion NP....buy a lot of groceries and plan your meals otherwise. Owner was very nice and responsive. We got our deposit back immediately after we got home! We would consider staying again once we buy our razors! Lots of ATV trails surrounding this location as well as snowmobiling.

Owner's Response: I am so pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay at our cabin, and your vacatoin in our beautiful area. Thanks to you and your family for being great guests. We would welcome you back any time! BTW, you'll be pleased to know that we are remodeling the bathroom starting next week, and it will be done by early May - so next time you come, there will be a brand new and very lovely bathroom in our cozy cabin! I'm only sorry it wasn't able to be done before your stay. Again, thanks for your review, and for your stay with us. Best wishes to your entire family (and to Zeus!). Jan

Beautiful Cabin in a Beautiful location!

  • 4 of 5
This was a vacation for my husband's birthday, so I wanted something very special for him. We have visited Duck Creek Village, Utah before so we knew that we loved the area. This cabin was very nice and quaint and in a perfect location in Strawberry Valley. There was snow, but not enough for a snowmobile, so we brought our 4 wheel drive quad to ride around on the ATV trails. If you are a four wheeler, this area of Utah has tons to offer in all seasons of the year. The cabin was easily accessible to all points of interest. The cabin is set up just like a home, so everything you need is there. It was very cozy and decorated very nicely and very clean and organized. The owner was very precise in her directions about everything in the cabin. All that you need to bring is your food and personal items, all else is there for you to use! I was concerned when I made the reservation that people could bring their dogs, since my husband is very allergic to dogs and cats. There was no smell or evidence that there were any pets in the cabin, which was fantastic! Do not hesitate to rent this cabin, it was truly a remarkable weekend! Thank You Jan! you made it such a great experience!

COZY, INTIMATE, QUIET HOME AWAY FROM HOME

  • 5 of 5
This is our 4th stay at this wonderful cabin. As a matter of fact my wife and I are here at the cabin this very moment as I write this, as we come up here for our anniversary every year now. Although we are not the owners of this very secluded, quiet and intimate cabin, we do refer to it as "our cabin" since this is now our home away from home. Jim and Jan, the owners of this cabin are always very cordial, caring and always call while we are up here to see if there is anything we might need. They take extremely good care of the cabin inside and out, in fact they recently put in new floors, carpet, new fireplace as well as made other improvements, although nothing was in need of replacement or repair to begin with. They just love to keep making improvements as just one additional step to making sure their guests are comfortable and enjoy their stay. Which we ALWAYS do. My wife Lisa and I highly recommend Cedar Hollow Cabin for a quiet, intimate, comfy get-away with lots of fresh air, deer that walk through the front, back and sides lots, the chipmunks, humming birds and other wildlife. When we are here we pay no attention to the clock, don't answer our cell phones and don't care about the outside world. We come here to get away from all the hum-drum yet frantic hustle and bustle of the city. And for that, Cedar Hollow Cabin is the PERFECT place. We absolutely LOVE it here.

Owner's Response: John and Lisa, what a wonderful, gracious review! You two are wonderful guests, and we are thrilled that you have come to think of our cozy cabin as your own! It's great that we can be your "go to" place when you want to get away from everyday life and just relax. I am really glad that you like the improvements we've made to the cabin. We really try to make our cabin the best experience possible for folks who stay with us. It gives us a lot of joy to know that our guests love Cedar Hollow cabin as much as we do! Can't wait to welcome you back again next summer! Have a great year, until then!

Great first visit to Duck Creek

  • 5 of 5
This was my family's first time staying in Duck Creek, and our last vacation before the new baby arrives! We were very impressed with the well-stocked and cozy cabin - Jan has though of everything from cooking oil to ibuprofen. There's a great selection of movies and books in the cabin, and a nice supply of dry firewood inside and outside of the house. The location was also very convenient, we were just a few minutes from Duck Creek Village, Aspen Mirror Lake and Strawberry Point. My son especially enjoyed watching the antelope eating in the nearby meadow. We would definitely recommend this cabin for a short or long stay in Duck Creek. Thank you, Jan!

Owner's Response: Thank you, Shari, for such a nice commentary on our cabin. We are so pleased that you and your family had a great time in Duck Creek, and that our cabin was a good experience for you. It's a real treat for us to hear that guests found everything about their stay to be excellent. Good luck with the new little one, and I hope we'll get to have you back when you want to get away to the mountains again. And with the new famly member too, of course!

Cozy Cabin!

  • 5 of 5
3rd year in a row and will be booking again for next year. The owners amaze me every year with upgrading their cabin, which already is so beautiful and well organized. They added new flooring throughout the cabin and added a new fireplace in the living room. We are actually going to come to Duck Creek more since we fell in love with the community. When we were here this year we sent to Cedar Breaks Monument where my 7 year old became a Junior Ranger. We saw the play Peter at the Utah Shakesphere Festival, we fished Aspen Mirror Lake, We rented a Pantoon at Bear Paw and fished a caught over 20 fish. We supported the local businesses by shopping at Rustic Comforts buying my bear stuff and gifts for Christmas presents. We ate at Pinewood Resorts and had a great dinner, ate at Hot Mama's pizza and ice cream shoppe, had a great breakfast at Aunt Sue's. We explored the area seeing deer, antelope, squirrels, chipmunks, many species of birds. Our best part was a trip out to the largest no-kill shelter called Best Friends Animal Santuary. One of the days I sent my husband and daughter fishing for the day and I just relaxed reading a book on the wrap around deck watching the birds and chipmunks feed. The owners have a great library of tourist books in their cabin so we spent some time reading for new adventures. You will not be disapointed at all staying here.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the really nice review! We love repeat guests - you guys are getting almost like family! And how nice of you to notice that we try to do some sort of upgrade to the cabin every year. I'm really glad to hear it when guests find our place as comfortable and welcoming as we try to make it. We think Cedar Hollow cabin, and Strawberry Valley, are really special places. You are so right, there is never an end to things to do and places to explore all around Duck Creek.
I think it's so cool to have family vacation traditions like coming back to a special place each year, and we are really honorewd that you guys have made our cabin your special tradition. We can't wait to welcome your family back again next year!
