Waikiki Condo Rental Photos and Description
Condo, Studio, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 1-2)
The Bird Cage is a breezy and bright studio giving you clear views of the Koolau Mountains. With historic Waikiki Beach just outside the hotel lobby, the Bird Cage is the perfect home base for you.
The studio has undergone a major renovation with it's original windows replaced with double paned sliding glass windows that greatly minimize the urban sounds of Waikiki, and the interior and furnishings have been updated and refreshed. An expansive roof deck on top of the hotel provides a bird's eye view of Diamond Head. There are lounge chairs for sunbathing and tables for alfresco dining. No one else in Waikiki has a better view of the sun setting into the Pacific. Kapiolani Park is just across the street and offers the Honolulu Zoo, Waikiki Aquarium, the Royal Hawaiian Bandstand, tennis courts, soccer fields, archery ranges, weekend art shows and the city's Sunset on the Beach free concerts and movies - all this in its 500 green acres.
One of the main reasons for coming to Hawaii is of course the sun and sand. Surfing, stand up board paddling, outrigger canoeing, swimming and simply lounging on the beach are all just a few steps from the Brid Cage. Hans Hedemann's Surf School is located in the lobby of the building.
Hawaii is the crossroads of the Pacific and its culinary offerings reflect that abundantly, so while the Bird Cage has a kitchen and microwave, you are a short walk away from countless cafes and restaurants catering to every taste and price range. Similarly, if you can get yourself out of the water and away from the beach there is a lot of shopping to be done in Waikiki, and the many other shopping venues just a short drive away.
The Bird Cage is at the end of Waikiki. Kapahulu Avenue provides easy access to the freeway, and makes getting in and out of the area very easy because you avoid all the traffic in the heart of Waikiki. This is perfect for when you decide to explore the rest that Oahu has to offer.

About Kevin Lum 621
Born and raised in Honolulu, I currently live on the Mainland, but spend a lot of time in Hawaii. I have worked in the travel industry for over 35 years and have explored numerous countries around the world. I can relate to what travellers are looking for in a vacation rental because I'm looking for the same things - cleanliness, location and value.
Kevin Lum 621 purchased this condo in 2003
Why Kevin Lum 621 chose Waikiki
I grew up in Honolulu and spent a lot of time playing at the beach and on the sea wall that is less than 50 steps from the condo. Kapiolani Park was a place for family gatherings, concerts at the Shell, and of course the Zoo. Waikiki was a lot slower and quieter when I was a kid, but even today I think visitors will still find it to be a special place. If you walk down to the Diamond Head end of Kalakaua Avenue - it's still like it was in the old days.
What makes this condo unique
Location, location, location. While being at the 'end' of Waikiki might sound like you are away from all the action, that just isn't the case. Everything Waikiki has to offer is just a short walk away, but you don't have to be in the middle of the hustle and traffic. Being on the end of Waikiki makes getting in and out of the area, if you are driving, much easier than visitors staying in the middle of the high-rises. Saving the best for last, being on the end of Waikiki means there is nothing else between you and Diamond Head except the big green expanse of Kapiolani Park. Head up to the roof deck and see for yourself! In the morning it's an amazing place to have coffee, watch the sun peek over the Koolau Mountains and light up Diamond Head, listen to the monkeys in the Zoo, and see the elephants out for a stroll. Only in Hawaii!
Guestbook comments from the manager
Kevin was a responsible and welcoming host. He was professional and punctual in all of our interactions and was great about checking in by email as the reservation approached and providing comprehensive information about the studio. Even after I left, when I thought I had left something in the apartment, Kevin was quick to respond and follow-up on my email (ps Kevin, we found the sunglasses!). The apartment was as pictured/described in the advertisement. The room is spacious and very clean with a small table and two chairs for eating. As is common in studio apartments, the kitchen and bathroom area are small (e.g. the kitchen and bathroom sink are one and the same), but space aside, the apartment is outfitted with everything you need to use the kitchen should you want to. The top floor patio was a major bonus, offering unobstructed views of Diamond Head and a wonderful, light breeze in the evening hours. More broadly, the location of this property is fantastic! It is a matter of steps from Waikiki Beach and within a 5-10 minute walk of free parking. It has great access to Honolulu, Waimea, Diamond Head and the highway. So, whether you plan to stay on Waikiki everyday or see every inch of Oahu, this is a great jumping off point. I strongly recommend this property for its location, cleanliness and the professionalism of the host.
