This hillside colonial revival home overlooks Lake Flower and is two blocks to downtown Saranac Lake. The century old home is a National Park Service registered historic home. Lake access and full views of Mt. Baker make vacation living splendid. The wrap around front porch has just been rebuilt and is the perfect spot to relax and enjoy a cabernet, a great book, or a nap! It's also filled with wicker furniture.
The large home features original architectural details, enormous dining room, hardwood floors, new bathrooms, and extremely comfy beds. We love to cook as a group and the large new kitchen features a 6 burner Viking range, Bosch dishwasher, Sub Zero, island, quartz counters, and wet bar. Well equipped with lots of china, stemware, and silverware. (View ADDITIONAL PHOTOS at link below) This old house also has iPod ready sound, WIFI, 40 inch Samsung TV, DVD library, and a 2nd floor laundry. We hope you will enjoy our Adirondack retreat as much as we do.
The home has served as central accommodations for family reunions, Lake Placid Ironman, wedding bridal parties, and ski trips. It is always booked for Winter Carnival.
Saranac Lake Village is in the midst of a six million acre region deemed forever wild, with very small and tightly controlled development zones. The Adirondack Park is larger than Yellowstone, Yosemite, Grand Canyon, and Smoky Mountain National Parks combined. Our national wilderness and land conservation principals can be traced to the constitutionally protected New York Forest Preserve, upon which the Adirondack Park was built.
We love Saranac Lake because it has much less than Lake Placid: less traffic, less visitors, less chain stores and less commercialism. You can park your vehicle all week and still be walking distance to everything; market, library, restaurants, parks, live theater, shops, park, outdoor concerts, etc.
Saranac Lake is terrific year round. Summer on the lakes, rivers, streams, and mountain trails are hard to beat. There are 40 miles of connected waterway accessible from Lake Flower. Fall color tours, hiking, and cozy fires are fabulous. Whiteface Mountain, 18 miles away, was voted the 4th best destination resort in 2007 by Conde Nast Traveler. Whiteface is considered the premier Eastern US ski resort by SKI Magazine readers. Winter sports such as youth hockey, cross country skiing at Dewey Mountain Nordic area, and America’s longest running winter carnival right on Lake Flower make Saranac Lake a unique destination for those seeking a Winter Wonderland.
You'll never be bored with all the things to do here. The boat launch is across the lake. You can drop a canoe or kayak in Lake Flower right at the house, but there is no beach front at our home. Rentals for canoes, kayaks, or power boats are readily available in the area. There is a brand new Carousel in town for kids of all ages! The seasonal farmers market is a 5 minute walk. Besides the great outdoor activities, you are at the center of Adirondack cultural activities, including nearby museums, historical sites, live music and theater. Or that other favorite sport - shopping in downtown Saranac Lake and shopping in Lake Placid only 10 minutes away. This is an artist's dream - paint or photograph your favorite views, and visit the many art galleries and antique shops in the area.

The pleasure of returning to my home town was heightened by our stay in this house!
(The owner of our house was always very attentive to our questions, from the beginning before we had made a decision to rent his house, to a couple of times during our stay when I needed to have some information. We were in contact by telephone and e-mail and he always responded quickly to my queries.)
This is truly a house made for family and friends! Living abroad, we don’t see the family often and here, 12 family members from both sides of the Big Pond came for short or longer periods of time, staggered so as not to have more people than beds, and it worked perfectly. The living quarters are ample sized and everyone was able to do his or her own thing, indoors or out, without bothering the others. Bedrooms are of a good size and comfortable and the bathrooms are well appointed, as well. The kitchen is very well equipped and the formal dining room was used for formal dining, as well as working on puzzles that were in the house. The fireplace was a delight on the few nights that were a little chilly.
The view of the lake and mountains is fantastic and it was a real blessing to be awakened each morning by the sound of a loon on Lake Flower in front of the house!
Being so close to the center of town is a huge plus. We often walked to the various excellent restaurants, (“Little Italy”, “The Left Bank Café”, “Nona Finna”, to name a few), the Market on Saturday mornings, which we could see across the lake from the house, to the River Walk along the Saranac River and to the Adirondack Carousel which delighted young and old! The latter is right next to the Railroad Station where one can take the tourist train to and from Lake Placid.
In addition to these local attractions, three other attractions must be mentioned: the Adirondack Wildlife and Refuge Center in Wilmington, NY, was a complete surprise to us, as we were led on a Wolf Walk with an expert on wolves. Check it out at: http://adirondackwildlife.org/ and after a visit there, drive to the top of Whiteface Mountain where a magnificent view awaits you. In Tupper Lake is the Wild Center, https://www.wildcenter.org/, which is another amazing place for family and friends.
A visit to Saranac Lake would not be complete without ice cream cones from Donnelly’s. Located on Route 86 going north past the hospital toward the airport, it is a favorite place for delicious ice cream.
Beautiful home. Everything we needed was available. Large comfortable bedrooms, beautiful views of Mt Baker and the autumn colors.....spectacular!
We rented the house for Christmas 2013 and it was a great place for the family to meet; enough bedrooms for all, plenty of bathrooms, and a FULLY stocked kitchen. The kitchen had more dishes, silverware, cooking platters, spices than I have at home. It made cooking holiday meals easy. The house was a little worn around the edges, but we knew what we were getting when we rented it, and had no complaints. In addition, the owner is very responsive with any questions or issues you have upon arrival.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time here. The home is beautiful with plenty of space for family and friends. We have been to many places and never found one so completely appointed - everything needed for cooking, relaxing, entertaining, etc. We enjoyed wine & cheese on the fabulous front porch overlooking the lake. We walked into town several times (just a couple blocks away). And the farmers market on Sat. morning was literally within sight of the front porch and chocked-full of amazing, local items. We also ventured to several nearby hikes, into Lake Placid, up Whiteface Mtn and through High Falls Gorge. The home was a wonderful 'home-base' for lots of exploring!
Lovely stay in this gracious old house. Very well equipped kitchen made preparing Thanksgiving dinner a fun and memorible affair with every member of the family preparing a dish, including my 3-year-old grandson (he 'made' cresent rolls). Room for everyone and even my older grandchildrens' electronic devices worked and kept them happy when we couldn't sit and all play games together.
Wonderful family time and I would recommend it at any time of the year. As advertised!
Beautiful home overlooking Lake Flower. We have a large group and this house was perfect. The kitchen is newly renovated and a great meeting place. Big dining room table for playing games and eating together. Comfy beds and a big front porch too! Being close to town was great, and we enjoyed having such great hiking nearby. Recommended!
