This hillside colonial revival home overlooks Lake Flower and is two blocks to downtown Saranac Lake. The century old home is a National Park Service registered historic home. Lake access and full views of Mt. Baker make vacation living splendid. The wrap around front porch is perfect to relax and enjoy a cabernet, a great book, or a nap! It's also big enough for everybody to dine outdoors.
The large home features original architectural details, enormous dining room, hardwood floors, new bathrooms, and extremely comfy new beds. We love to cook as a group and the large new kitchen features a 6 burner Viking range, Bosch dishwasher, Sub Zero, island, stone counters, and wet bar. Well equipped with lots of china, stemware, and silverware. (View ADDITIONAL PHOTOS at link below) This old house also has iPod ready sound, wireless Internet, and a 2nd floor laundry. We hope you will enjoy our Adirondack retreat as much as we do.
The home has served as central accommodations for family reunions, Lake Placid Ironman, wedding bridal parties, and ski trips.
Saranac Lake Village is in the midst of a six million acre region deemed forever wild, with very small and tightly controlled development zones. The Adirondack Park is larger than Yellowstone, Yosemite, Grand Canyon, and Smoky Mountain National Parks combined. Our national wilderness and land conservation principals can be traced to the constitutionally protected New York Forest Preserve, upon which the Adirondack Park was built.
Saranac Lake was named an All American City in 1998. We love it because it has much less than Lake Placid: less traffic, less visitors, less chain stores and less commercialism. You can park your vehicle all week and still be walking distance to everything; market, library, restaurants, parks, live theater, shops, park, outdoor concerts, etc.
Saranac Lake is terrific year round. Summer on the lakes, rivers, streams, and mountain trails are hard to beat. There are 40 miles of connected waterway accessible from Lake Flower. Fall color tours, hiking, and cozy fires are fabulous. Whiteface Mountain, 18 miles away, was voted the 4th best destination resort in 2007 by Conde Nast Traveler. Winter sports such as youth hockey, cross country skiing at Dewey Mountain Nordic area, snowmobile trail riding and America’s longest running winter carnival right on Lake Flower make Saranac Lake a unique destination for those seeking a Winter Wonderland.
You'll never be bored with all the things to do here. The boat launch is across the lake. You can drop a canoe or kayak in Lake Flower right at the house, but there is no beach front at our home. Rentals for canoes, kayaks, or power boats are readily available in the area. There is a brand new Carousel in town for kids of all ages! The seasonal farmers market is a 5 minute walk. Besides the great outdoor activities, you are at the center of Adirondack cultural activities, including nearby museums, historical sites, live music and theater. Or that other favorite sport - shopping in downtown Saranac Lake and shopping in Lake Placid only 10 minutes away. This is an artist's dream - paint or photograph your favorite views, and visit the many art galleries and antique shops in the area.
