Keolamauloa is a historic family property, originally developed in the 1930’s as a coffee farm. It is located at a cool elevation of 1800 feet, in an area surrounded by verdant pasturelands and old family homesteads. Today this family farm is home to the Lundburg/Tallett family of 3 generations who share a working vision of sustainable living. The restful accommodation has a private entrance, kitchen, living room, bathroom and two bedrooms; featuring a hot tub shaded by bananas and tree fern. Keolamauloa is located 5 miles from Honokaa, a historic plantation town with a wonderful movie theater, small shops and restaurants.
The rental was spacious, private, very comfortable and well-stocked with far more amenities than we expected. We especially liked all the books on the history of the Hamakua Coast, which gave us a special perspective on the region as well as the history of the property itself. When booking, we somehow missed the fact that the rental also includes exclusive use of a large wooden hot tub and outdoor shower, which was a pleasant surprise. We enjoyed taking walks on the upcountry roads amid the lush green forest. The owners were very kind and accommodating, and the kitties who live on the farm are soooo sweet. Our son enjoyed feeding leftovers to the pig! Lots of fun!
We had a wonderful stay at the farm. The kids loved the farm and they did'nt want to leave. I really can recommend this place. Thank you, Kaye and your family, for having us and providing an excellent customer service
We had a fabulous time it was so great to have every thing we needed coffee everything that resorts don't offer. The farm is beautiful and Kaye is wonderful. We definitely plan to come again. 5 days there is the minimum you should stay great location To drive to all parts of the island. We will recommend it to all our friends. Mahalo
This is our favorite place to stay on the island. Kay is very welcoming, and the property is warm and inviting, and even has a hot tub! They're solar operated, grow several varieties of fruits and veggies, have a huge pet pig, a chicken coop, etc. This part of the island also has endless opportunity for exploration.
This property was a perfect reprieve from the hot east coast of the island. The grounds were just right for our toddler but the unit itself was not very toddler friendly. Exposed outlets, open bookcases, and a large step made it hard to keep her safe inside. (She was walking but not able to use stairs yet.)
The land is beautiful. the gardens, the animals, the fruit trees and the owner make this property that little peace of happiness. We will return and we will continue to recommend this to others. But if you have tiny mobile ones, travel with outlet covers.
My family had a wonderful time staying in this guest house on the farm. The house itself was well equipped with everything we needed for a home away from home stay. We were able to cook all of our meals here and especially enjoyed eating the fresh veggies and eggs from the farm. And we enjoyed walking around the farm every evening with our 9 mo old son, who loved exploring the garden, watching the chickens, and petting the farm cats. The house was also conveniently located for day trips around the island. We'd definitely stay here again if we have the chance to go back and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a unique and beautiful home base on the Big Island
