Located at Thurmond Lake, SC on the Savannah River and lakes, and in the Sumpter National Forest area, Savannah Lakes Village is an active community with no age restrictions, although made up of a number of retirees. You can be as busy or relaxed as you choose to be.
The house is a one floor ranch style on a private cul-de-sac street, with a deck and fenced yard.
In addition to the two championship golf courses (restaurants; full service bars);(as guests of the owner, both golf courses may be played: 18 holes with cart for $46); very close by is the golf course at Hickory Knob State Resort Park with cabins and restaurant, also Baker State Park adjoins Savannah Lakes, and just over the bridge in Georgia,is the Elijah Clark State Park. There are plenty of boat launching ramps, but any boat on a trailer must be small enough to be kept in the garage except when trailering to launch! Within easy walking distance is the Activity Center which houses a large heated indoor pool, spa and sauna, outdoor pool, excellent workout center, tennis courts and bowling alleys. There is a resort type complex on the lake beachfront available for all to use along with the beach club. There you will find the marina and sand beach. Pleasant walking or bicycling all around.
All of the major church denominations are present in McCormick. The weather is very comfortable in Spring and Fall, and the Summer is what you would expect for the Carolinas at that time of year (warmer).
There is a modest fee for the Activity Center and of course for golf.
No motorhomes or trailers of any type are allowed on the property at anytime as per property owners association rules.

We are a retired couple, originally from Eastern Long Island, NY and now living in Maine most of the year.
The Owner purchased this house in 2009
we live in Maine, and have visited and rented in South Carolina over many years; we have found Savannah Lakes Village to be just right for us.
Activities ,Church, weather, neighbors and neighborhood, golf, fishing, walking, hiking swimming and boating.
My family and I have rented properties for years in different areas, and this is honestly the nicest rental we have ever been in! The place is huge and so much more beautiful than the pictures show. The living/dining area is the best, with a high ceiling and wide open space. The kitchen is also beautiful, with granite countertops and really nice ceramic tile. The fridge is huge and the oven with ceramic top is in perfect condition. The kitchen was also better stocked than any rental I've been in, complete with tons of spices for cooking. We brought our dogs with, and that, too, was incredibly accomodating for them. The fenced-in backyard was massive - it's probably twice the size of my own backyard. We also found 2 doggie beds under the master bed, which they loved. Plus, when we arrived there was a basket of dog toys just waiting for them to play with. How sweet was that! The closets were stocked with everything you could possibly need, including tons of toilet paper, a first aid kit, a dozen bars of soap, a heating pad, and even an extra toothbrush! Then, there was the 2-car garage complete with door opener to use while you're here. The garage was also huge, and even had extra paper supplies out there if you needed them. Oh, and the master bed - it was one of the most comfortable I've ever been in! I simply cannot say enough about this place. The owners obviously care about making their guests comfortable and accomodated, and giving them a home away from home. Also, the home is located within an easy walking distance to the recreation center, which has a lovely indoor and outdoor pool, a ping pong table, tennis courts, and even a small bowling alley. Just be aware, though, that you do have to pay a $3/person/day fee for use of the facilities, plus extra for tennis and/or bowling. The town of Abbeville is very quaint and has some cute shops - about 30 min away. There are some great hiking/biking trails in the state parks which surround the area. The town of McCormick (where the home is located) is very small but has some small restaurants and stores, including a Food Lion. And you have to try Michelle's Pizza in the middle of town - absolutely the best pizza I've tried in a long time! All in all, this is simply the best rental I've ever been to. I can't even believe it was so reasonable for all that it offers. I highly recommend!
As others have pointed out the photo does not do justice to the house! it was perfect in every way. we had our 2 sons stay with us for 3 days of that week and the house accomodated us all. It is the perfect location for golfers and our next visit will focus on the wonderful fishing opportunities that exist in this area! The owner is very accommodating and we have already recommended to friends that they book a stay.
as others have pointed out the photo does not do justice to the house! it was perfect in every way. we had our 2 sons stay with us for 3 days of that week as we enjoyed a practice day at the masters together. only an hour away and an easy drive. the perfect location for golfers [two fabulous courses Tara and Monticello and very reasonable rates] our next visit will focus on the wonderful fishing opportunities that exist in this area! the owner is very accommodating and we have already recommended to friends that they book a stay.
The house was a wonderful find. It is extremely clean and has everything you could want to make your stay enjoyable. I agree with the previous review, the house is much nicer than it looks in the photo's !
We were a family of five with two young children, visiting from Bermuda. We drove up from Atlanta and the house was very easy to find even in the dark. We were after a place to walk with some open space (which we do not have much of in Bermuda) and a few local attractions.
The only down side I can think of is that the third room only has a pull out bed (which we were advised of in advance) it was fine for our daughter but may be a little less comfortable for an adult, compared to the other beds which are extremely comfortable.
The area is lovely. The neighbours were very nice and helpful. We used the club house restaurant where we felt very welcome and they serve good food and drinks. The sports centre has a great pool and bowling alley which we used on a rainy day.
There were plenty of walks and cycle tracks around the lake to keep us busy.
We took a day out to Augusta were I would highly recommend the Morris Museum of Art. Abbeville is good for an hour or so with a couple of good bars and shops. Greenwood was also good, we went to the art centre and museum. Do not got to the rail museum though which was closed and very run down. Callaway and Washington are definitely worth a visit.
The owner was lovely to deal with before we arrived and was answered all our questions in a timely manner.
Overall we had a great stay, made even better by the wonderful people of the area.
My family truely enjoyed the home. Very clean, wife loved the kitchen with everything you needed for cooking and more. We rented this to spend some time with the 3 grand kids who also loved the house with TV's in each room and had a good selection of cable channels for them to enjoy. The wifi was also very nice for all of us to enjoy streaming movies to the IPads. The kids also had a great time using the activity center which is located only a couple blocks away.
My favorite place in the early morning was enjoying my coffee out on a very spacious deck while everyone was sleeping in.
The location was only a short drive to a boat landing that we used to launch the jet ski and would ride over to the Savannah Lakes beach area and the kids had a great time playing in the sand and riding on ski and float.
The owner was super nice to deal with as we had problem with the USPS with the arrival of the rental contract which we both worked out between us. Owner also was very fast returning the deposit for the rental.
I did play a round of golf one day with one of the local home owners so bring you clubs.
Look forward to staying here again in the future.
Consider staying here, I promise you will not be disappointed.
We were very happy with our stay (24-29 May 2013). The house was ready for our arrival as promised and had everything that we needed for our stay. My family used it as a staging area for trips to Augusta, GA to see relatives and it definitely met our needs. Savannah Lakes Village (i.e. the community the house is located in) was just what we were looking for, relaxation and solitude. There's plenty to do in the area in terms of outdoor recreation. This incudes: golf (both on-site and across the street at Hickory Knob State Resort), wooded hiking trails, large lakes for water activities, bicycling, visiting historic sites, etc. While we didn't utilize the on-site recreation center, it is quite impressive and has both indoor and outdoor facilities (e.g. tennis courts, swimming pool, horseshoe pits, etc). Ask the owner for a visitor's pass if you want to utilize any of the on-site recreational amenities. We definitely hope to return at some point this summer and would like to make the trip and stay an annual occurrence.
