Relax in a two-bedroom, two-bath house with a large ocean view lanai. Our house is on a quiet street that runs along the ocean and has two parks within easy walking distance on the coast. You will find there are more walkers than cars passing below our lanai. We are an easy one hour drive to the volcano. There aren't that many live volcanoes in the world, and how many of them can you actually walk around on?
You are close to many places worth exploring. Hilo has old-Hawaii storefronts, a farmers\flea market, and cultural events (such as the Merrie Monarch Hula Festival and the Big Island Hawaiian Music Festival). And Pahoa with its mix of Cowboy and Victorian character with wooden sidewalks is close by and has some of the best small restaurants in East Hawaii. There is much more to see and explore in Eastern Hawaii — or you can just sit on the lanai, listen to the waves, and watch for whales.
We area recently retired couple getting ready to move to our Hawaii home. Until we do so we are letting others make use of our home for their vacation. We take much pride in making our home a very comfortable place with all the amenities you could need. Before we bought this home we had stayed in many vacation rentals on the Islands so when we set ours up we knew what distinguished one from another. Our home is different from many in how little traffic you will see. It is not unusual to be sitting on the lanai on a lazy Saturday afternoon gazing at the ocean and not see any cars for an hour.
The windows throughout the house provides an ocean view from nearly every room in the house.
As the owners we were once again happy as can be to back in Hawaii. The whales this year are incredible. With the even larger view we were able to see whales from our lanai every day except for one during our 23 day stay. We saw whales breaching, slapping their pectoral fins on the surface, more tails and spouts than can be counted, and even an example of tail lobbing. We were also able to see some very young calves breaching. During our stay we upgrade the 2nd bedroom with a new queen mattress, installed a new five burner electric range, and added a screen door to further take advantage of the trade winds. Our only regret is that we do not get to return until October. (Feb 2015 - 23 days)

My husband & I live in a condo in a big city so for us this accommodation couldn't have been more different & we loved it, extremely relaxing. We never get to see stars but at this house we got to star gaze every evening.
I do think the house would benefit from some bigger furniture as the current ones look a little lost, it's a huge open plan concept which is just beautiful, when the windows are open you get to hear the wildlife outside. We found this property to be plenty big enough for 4 adults.
Our favorite part of the house was the deck which offers views of the lava rocks and ocean across the street, this is also the perfect place to have breakfast before exploring the local area & volcanoes all of which we feel are easier to access from the east side. You definitely do need a car for this property, the local town Pahoa is about 10 miles away and takes no time to get too. Make sure you go to Hilo market before going to the local supermarket as it's much cheaper & the produce taste so good. You will find the local people around by the house & the local towns to be very nice, everyone passing the house acknowledged us.
We are extremely into sustainable tourism & the environment so we're very impressed by the solar panels & water catchment system this house has, my Dad however was a little worried by this but it doesn't effect you at all, it's brilliant.
The best part about this rental are the owners Michael & Terry they are so nice to deal with and extremely passionate about their home & Hawaii providing a great deal of useful information both before & during our stay. I definitely recommend this property if your looking for some rest & relaxation & a base for exploring the east side of The Big Island.
Right at the ocean, very soothing. Awesome open floorplan and great furnishings and wonderful huge deck.
We commuted to hilo 30 minutes every time - don't go during active construction time. Easy access to kehena, pahoa town waipio valley, and volcano (do bring a jacket). Just can't beat this big island rental as a base for exploring and relaxing.
We found that if you are down by the ocean like this great house is, the microclimate is drier - we think Hilo has an interesting mix of cloud, sun, and rain ( torrential at times and mostly at night). KONA was consistenly hazier and greyer, super crowded and touristy, and didn't get the cool breezes at night.
If you don't stay here you are wasting money for the price!!

This is one of the best vacation rentals we have ever visited. The owners clearly put a great deal of time and effort into making visitors feel welcome. They include many amenities which are not often included. We particularly appreciated the many small details which make a stay pleasant: tatami mats for the beach, umbrellas, good books on local flora and fauna, binoculars, good sheets, and much more. The home is perfectly shown in the photos. It is a ways outside of Hilo, in an area that is quite convenient to many of the sights on the eastern side of the Big Island. The information provided was comprehensive and accurate, and helped in knowing what to do and see. You should know that cell phone service (AT&T) is unreliable at the home, though Verizon cell coverage is fine. There is a landline with free calls to continental US, and wireless internet access, so this was not at all missed. Highly recommended.
Loved our stay at the house - good sized, clean, comfortable, well-stocked, convenient to many attractions. Pictures don't do the house justice - so much nicer! Would definitely recommend this property to others. Two most favorite activites were Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden in Papaikou and a Lava Boat Tour through Lava Ocean Tours.
This is a lovely home situated in a quiet neighborhood. A real plus is a view of the ocean cliffs across the street, which can be viewed from the wide lanai at the front of the house. The photos really don't do justice to the house--it is absolutely lovely. The owner is very responsive and made sure all of our needs were taken care of. We were primarily there for birding, and this residence is in a perfect location for that--about midway between Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea. I highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a private retreat on the Big Island.
Our lovely spacious home is located in the Puna district of the Big Island. A short auto trip to the south takes you to the Kapoho Tide Pools, the large, free ocean front hot pool in Ahalanui Park, and through a lovely area that includes Lava Trees State Park. A day trip to the volcano (one hour away) can easily be done without facing any city traffic.
East Hawai'i is a fascinating place to visit. It provides a lush landscape, incredible geological sights (a big mahalo to Pele), a wide variety of activities, and a place to rest and rejuvenate. There aren't that many live volcanoes in the world and how many of them can you actually walk around on? In the area are many small farms producing plenty of fresh vegetables and fruits throughout the year. Visiting the various flea\farmers markets can be quite rewarding - just wait until you see the avocadoes - always ripe and the size of a large fist - yum. Papayas too, at 3 for a dollar. Enjoy your stay and when you return home, please feel free to pack and take with you all of the Aloha you can carry.
