NEW CABIN ON WILD AND SCENIC NORTH FORK OF THE FLATHEAD RIVER

West Glacier Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms + Loft + Den, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4)

Welcome to our Northfork Cabin! The home is a newly-constructed (2009) Appalachian-style log-sided home of 2000 square feet, 29X40 with two covered 8 foot deep front and rear porches and a 3/4 loft. It is located on a one (1) acre parcel facing the North Fork of the Flathead River, a National Wild and Scenic River corridor and looks across the river into Glacier National Park. It is truly a unique getaway for those seeking solitude, privacy and the convenient access to nearby wilderness and national park recreational opportunities. Our cabin comfortably accommodates four (4) people maximum. No additional non-contracted guests are permitted.

We are 15 minutes from West Glacier, 10 minutes from Columbia Falls, 20 minutes from Whitefish and Whitefish Mountain Ski Area and 30 minutes from Kalispell and Glacier Park International Airport. Shopping for anything from groceries to antiques is available in these nearby trendy, Western-friendly communities.

Outstanding wildlife viewing opportunities await you here. We have frequent observations of elk, deer, black and grizzly bears, moose, wolves, river otter, beaver, coyotes, wolverines and, of course, all manner of waterfowl, raptors and songbirds like, golden and bald eagles, kingfishers, osprey, tundra swans, geese, mergansers, barred and great-horned owls, ruffed grouse, red-tailed hawks and many others. This is prime wildlife habitat made only more enjoyable by the convenient location of the cabin adjacent to the scenic river corridor.

My husband and I are Montana natives and have spent our lifetimes surrounded by the mountains of Northwest Montana. We believe that we are at the center of one of the most spectacularly beautiful areas to vacation. We designed our cabin as a haven for those seeking either adventure or relaxation...or both! It is a convenient jumping off place for nearby wilderness or national park recreation. Our primary residence is nearby Kalispell, MT. I am a registered nurse and my husband is a teacher/library director/retired seasonal Glacier Park ranger..

Alanna J. Ober purchased this cabin in 2008

The property has been in our family for the past thirty five years. We recently constructed the cabin to take advantage of the scenery adjacent to the river and as a weekend retreat and future retirement home. We purposely maintain the property in a pristine and natural setting to correspond with the adjacent scenic river corridor believing that our guests will appreciate the simplicity that we do.

We enjoy the diverse wildlife viewing on the river corridor and the unsurpassed quiet associated with the private setting combined with all the modern amenities.

Secluded yet only 10 miles to Columbia Falls, nice neighbors, go to goggle earth to find the shortcut to west glacier, cuts 20 miles off the drive and up to 45 minutes or longer depending on traffic, bring water shoes and a walking stick in the late season river is great, good camera with zoom is a must, owners are very helpful, pictures do not do justice to the place, will stay there again in a couple of years if it is still on the rental list

We thoroughly enjoyed our week long stay at this cabin with my parents early August 2013. The cabin is well-appointed and the pictures really don't do it justice. The flow of the kitchen into to the living room through the windows to the river was just perfect for our group of nature lovers. The kitchen had everything we needed and we were even treated to a bottle of wine and local Flathead cherries by the owners.

We divided most days between exploring Glacier National Park - hiking, riding horses, taking the historic red bus tour, then coming back to enjoy the peaceful views at this fabulous cabin. From the porch or riverside chairs, we saw osprey, a deer and its fawn, geese, an eagle, and tried our best to spot a hillside bear through the spotting scope. The river is natural and interesting at different times of day. The sun rises over the river and gave us some spectacular sunrises.

We've posted a few pictures in and around the cabin in this Flickr set: http://flic.kr/s/aHsjHyD8Uj

We hope to return some time in the future!

We looked at many different options for our trip to Glacier National Park. Once we arrived, we were so happy that we chose the North Fork Cabin. The location is perfect - only a 15 minute drive to the Park, but far enough removed that you feel like you are in the wilderness. Until we got there, we didn't realize that other cabins we considered were actually on a busy highway. We enjoyed hiking, rafting, canoeing and spent two days just sitting by the river enjoying the wildlife and scenery. The cabin was very well stocked and we're glad we didn't go to the grocery store before we got there because there were spices etc. that we didn't need to buy. The beds were comfortable and the porches were perfect for relaxing. Hummingbirds came to visit and a family of geese played across the river.

My only suggestion would be to provide a book with driving directions to nearby cities, restaurant menus, and suggested activities - also directions on using the TV for those of us who haven't ever used satellite. We also didn't find the grill until late in the visit since it was in a different location.

Have already recommended this property to friends who were awed by our pictures!! I hope that we can return someday.

This house and its location are both awesome. The house is right along the river and directly across from Glacier National Park. My family and I spent many hours sitting along the river and enjoying its aquamarine color along with the beauty of the surrounding mountains while eagles flew overhead. One evening a bull elk crossed the river and I once heard wolves howl. The house is spacious, immaculate and incredibly well stocked. The owner's artistic flare is evident everywhere and adds real beauty to the house. The extensive woodwork gives a real feeling of charm. The house is close to the park entrance. After a day of hiking, horse back riding, rafting and cruising on a boat, it was a real pleasure returning to this very comfortable house to watch the sun set while sitting along the river. This is a must house to stay at while visiting Glacier National Park.

Our favorite time of year is Fall with September and October being the optimum times to visit. Fall colors are incredible, Larch trees are turning color, wildlife is abundant, crowds are gone, Park and local facilities are open, bugs are gone, trails are open and the surrounding area is very quiet. Consider booking a Fall rental!
