This little house is in a very quiet neighborhood, but within walking distance to all the happenings on South First: Torchy's Tacos, Polvos, Sugar Mama's, a new gaggle of creative restaurants--Lenoir, Elizabeth Street Cafe, and Sway, vintage and craft-mafia stores, etc. It's less than a half-mile to the South Lamar scene: Olivia’s, The Black Sheep Lodge, Barlata, The Music Café, Uchi, and the proliferating trailer eateries like Lulu B’s for Vietnamese sandwiches.
In town for a wedding at Mercury Hall or Green Pastures? Both are just a few blocks away.
Still want more? The house is a little over a mile to the hipster hyperness of South Congress: Hotel San Jose, Continental Club, Enoteca and Vespaio, Guerro’s, Home Slice Pizza, and a bazillion antique and import shops, boutiques and galleries and less than two miles to Zilker Park, Barton Springs Pool, Warehouse District, Convention Center, and Paramount Theater.
All this and more is an easy walk or bike ride, cheap cab ride, or really cheap bus ride away.
The house is small and simple, but has everything you need--including an over-priced English-made toaster, fancy Swiss coffee machine, white noise machine, and luxury linens. We stay here ourselves, so you can bet the bed is comfy. But because it's a second home for us and not a main residence, the place isn't all junked up with stuff. (i.e. plenty of room for your stuff). Perks include an outdoor fireplace, useful on those two cold nights a year we get.
We have lived in Austin since the 1970s so if you have any questions about the town, I'll bet we know the answers or can make up some good lies.
This little house was a long term rental unit for years. We now live about 40 minutes outside Austin and, a couple of years ago, decided to convert it to a short term rental--that we could use, too, when we wanted a night on the town without the hassle of driving home. Because of changes in Austin's short-term rental rules, we've decided to rent it by the month only.
Over the years since we first bought the house, the neighborhood has changed into a very hip, yet still bohemian area, with lots unique restaurants and shops. Some say South First is what South Congress used to be like.

|Please note: As of January 1, 2013, the house is available only by the month or longer. This means the monthly rate for the house is $1800. This does not mean that the house is available for rent for, say, three nights for $180. It's difficult to make this clear the way that the rate info is set up on VRBO.|
* Approximate monthly rate. Actual rate will depend on the days of the month you stay. Payment is usually accepted in the quoted currency (USD) unless the currency and the amount is specifically agreed in advance with the owner / advertiser.
