The water! For swimming, kayaking and fishing, it's the very best!
We had a wonderful week! We loved having the water right outside the house - we swam & kayaked. The location was great. Very convenient - we walked into town & the drive to the market was 5 minutes. Great hiking & cycling nearby. We BBQ'd most nights & ate out back with the beautiful view of the water. The master bedroom is beautiful. The house was a good size for the 5 of us. The owners were very accommodating & very easy to work with. We hope to stay here again.
We stayed for a week in August with 4 adults and two kids, ages 4 and 7, and had a wonderful time! There was plenty of room for us - we didn't use the additional bedroom in the basement. We went swimming, canoeing and kayaking in the river every day- the water was great. We ate out on the deck looking out on the water, and it was peaceful and wonderful out there. The kids had a fantastic time in the water, playing with the Wii video games, and going in the hot tub (we turned the temperature down so it was ok for kids). The kids' room had a beautiful mural painted across the entire room, a bunk bed, and an incredible selection of kids' books. Also, there was a tree house, play equipment, and sandbox in the front yard. For the kids, the whole place was magical. There were a lot of places to go hiking, and we visited a couple of farms that were all set up to show the kids animals, etc. Downtown of Saugerties is a modest walk or short drive from the house and was really nice. For us it was an ideal family vacation - the kids begged for us to come back again next year.
This was a multiple family vacation that included 6 adults and 4 kids (ages 1 thru 5). The location was great, the house is nice, and we really enjoyed the river, kayaks, and hot tub.
However one big problem was that the sleeping situation was not accurate as described in the online listing. The description says it sleeps 8-10, with 1 queen bed, 3 double beds, and then it also mentions a convertible bed and a bunkbed. Since the 1-yr old was sleeping in a pack-and-play, it sounded like plenty of beds for 3 adult couples & 3 small kids.
Although there was a queen bed and 2 double beds (one of which was in the basement room - described as "finished basement room", though in reality it is NOT finished...sump pump & dehumidifier located in one corner fairly near the bed with a folding partition in front of them - the room was uncomfortable and noisy), the rest of the "beds" were highly exaggerated. The bunk bed had a full-size, though very thin mattress on the top bunk. But based on the height of the bunk and for comfort reasons, it is certainly not suitable for 2 people. The bottom "bunk" consisted of an old, misshapen futon mattress on the floor. And as for the other "convertible bed", there was none to be found. We took the mattress off a bench located in the sunroom (basically equivalent to a futon mattress) and used that as one bed.
If we had 6 people at the house, the sleeping arrangements would have been fine. But considering we had 9 people (and paid accordingly for a house that slept 8-10), the sleeping arrangements were inadequate and unexpected.
This is a fine house and great location, but the listing should be updated to accurately portray the type & quantity of beds, and it should probably be listed as sleeping 6-8 people.
We have rented this house from them one week each summer for 3-4 years now, and keep going back because its such a fantastic place. Great location, wonderful house that they just keep improving, very peaceful, kids love it, and you're right on the water. We have kids 9, 6, and 2, and they really enjoy getting out of the city and look forward to going up each year. Especially the Kayaks. Can't be beat.
This is a beautiful home. Each morning we would kayak from the boat dock and in the afternoons we hiked, visited bookstores and coffee shops just a short walk or drive from the house.
The house is light, well appointed, and the owners were kind, helpful and accommodating. We would visit again.
