Overview

Tenants Harbor Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Cottage, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 5)

Located near the tip of Barter's Point, this charming cottage has filtered views of the harbor and offshore islands. It is only a 2 minute stroll to our shorefront access where kayaks or other watercraft can be launched. The cottage has three bedrooms:one with a queen-sized bed, and two with full size beds. There is an eat-in kitchen,a full bath and a fire-placed living room. Enjoy beautiful Maine summer days from the sunny deck which is outfitted with comfortable adirondack chairs, or dine outside at the picnic table.

The cottage is equipped with broadband internet, Cable TV, a DVD player with a collection of DVDs, and a telephone with local service. For those early spring and late autumn days, there is also central heat. The weathered gray cottage is a great place to enjoy the simple pleasures of Mid-Coast Maine.

Things to do:

Kayak out of the cove and 'hug' the coastline or explore the waters around the offshore islands before heading into the harbor that is dotted with lobster boats and yachts during the summer months. Stop at the public landing and pick up a snack at the general store before continuing on your way.

Would you rather take a scenic stroll or go for a short drive? Head toward the village and enjoy the water view along the way. Smell the salt air. Drop by the bakery for a breakfast croissant. Pick up a book to read at Jackson Memorial Library which also has WiFi. Continue on to Granite Gardens for a cup of coffee in a peaceful setting. A rustic or refined lunch or dinner can be had in either local restaurants or in those a short drive away.

Do you want to go to the beach?

Drift-In Beach is a beautiful sandy beach at low tide. It is located on the road to Port Clyde ~ 4 miles away. Bring the kids. Take a picnic lunch. Have a great day!

Are you interested in other other activities?

Tour Marshall Point Lighthouse a few miles down the road in Port Clyde. Or, go up to Rockland. There, you can walk up to the lighthouse at Owl's Head. Then walk out to the lighthouse at the end of the breakwater in Rockland Harbor. There are photo opportunities everywhere. Go on to Rockport, and Camden. Drive, climb or mountain bike to the top of Mt. Battie. Delight in the view of Camden and the offshore islands. Picnic areas are located at the base of the mountain. Browse the shops as you walk around Camden Village or purchase a 2-4 hour cruise of Penobscot Bay on one of the schooners located in Camden Harbor.

Another great daytrip is to book passage on the ferry from Port Clyde for a trip to Monhegan Island. Bring a picnic lunch, and enjoy the scenic views as you hike around the island before returning the same day.

A multiplex movie theater is located in Thomaston. A public golf course is located in Rockland. Enjoy shopping, antiquing and visiting the art galleries and museums in the surrounding areas.

You can either dine in or dine out on fresh Maine seafood. After dinner, relax on the cottage deck and enjoy the onshore breeze as you watch the sun set, or sit in front of a crackling fire and read a good book, play a board game,or plan your activities for the next day.

Perfect Maine Getaway

  • 5 of 5
Just got back from our stay at the Weathered Gray Cottage. What a great spot! My wife and I have an eight-month-old baby, so we're beholden to feeding and nap schedules. Serious excursions from the cottage up and down the coast were not an option. That was fine. We enjoyed cooking out and eating at the picnic table, strolling to town with our dog, having a glass of wine or a cup of coffee on the wonderful porch. We lived outside the whole week. I think my posterior wore a groove in the porch rocker. Our golden retriever didn't want to come back to the city. The cottage is not directly on the water but you can see the harbor through breaks in the trees and the yard and porch get plenty of sun when you want it. At night all you hear is the wind in the leaves, the slop of water, and the muffled bong of a bell on a buoy out in the harbor. Perfect. I also appreciated the little touches that made for a pleasant stay—the ceiling fan for keeping things airy, the bookcase full of vacation reads, the kitchen knives that were actually sharp (we cooked a lot), and the comfortable cushions for the deck chairs. On top of all this comfort and convenience, we found the owners responsive and pleasant and the experience to be an excellent value generally. I should also mention that, for a place that accepts dogs and children (like ours), the house was spotless when we arrived. The cottage is smallish and somewhat old-fashioned (small bedrooms, wood paneling, older bathroom). Large parties looking for lots of individual privacy or those looking for ultra-modern, luxe accommodations may be disappointed but they certainly should not feel misled. It's an old cottage. That's the way they were made. The cottage is clean, well maintained, nicely decorated, and reasonably priced. We found it to be better than advertised and enjoyed ourselves immensely. The Weathered Gray Cottage recalled the best parts of our childhood vacations to Cape Cod only it is much better appointed. The location is also a plus. It's a very short drive to Port Clyde and pretty close to Rockland as well. If you go, you MUST try Waterman's Beach Lobster and Dorman's Dairy Dream in Thomaston (both are close and worth traveling to Maine to patronize). I'm recommending the Weathered Gray Cottage to the rest of our family and I think we'll stay there again in the future. Thanks to the owners for a memorable and restorative vacation

Grandma

  • 5 of 5
The kitchen has everything you can imagine, lots of odd things like a wine bottle cork to skinny picks for lobster. It also has every pot or pan you could need. The tv & DVD player worked well for my grandson when he needed to calm down before bed. Porch is great and walking across the street to throw rocks was convenient with the 7 year old.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review! As a new grandma, myself, I am looking forward to introducing my grandchildren to Maine as I know it: a peaceful getaway where I can enjoy an early breakfast on the front deck while watching the lobster boats head out in search of their catch; a family walk into the village to mail a letter, pick up a newspaper, shop at the General Store, go to the library, or just to explore and enjoy the views of the harbor along the way;a place to kayak or simply skip rocks from the shore. And introducing my grandkids to the beautiful sandy Drift- In public beach a short drive away. Ah, I can't wait to get back there and I am delighted that you enjoyed the Weathered Grey Cottage and the surrounding area as well

Rental Redux

  • 5 of 5
This is our 2nd summer renting the Weathered Gray Cottage and we will be back next year. We like that it is located within walking distance of the little town of Tenants Harbor and that walk there is beautiful. The cottage is well stocked and comfortable. We did not want for anything and the owners are easy to work with. It is beginning to feel like home!

Great Place! Good cookware, good beds. Clean. Owner very cooperative.
Walked to general store, bakery, fish market, restaurants, library. Fireplace worked well on cool nights. Our yellow lab loved the deck. Quiet area.

Owner's Response: Barbara, Thank you for taking the time to write a review of The Weathered Grey Cottage. I'm delighted that you enjoyed the cottage and its proximity (a 10 minute walk) to the village of Tenants Harbor, one of my favorite places. A morning or evening walk to the village along Barters Point Road is a great way to meet people and take in the harbor side views. Our chocolate lab ( Miss Maggie) spent many late afternoons snoozing on the deck after returning from day of sailing. I'm happy to hear that your yellow lab was similarly content.

Walk to town! Launch your kayak!

  • 5 of 5
What could be better than being close enough to an ocean side town than to be able to walk there everyday? Or cross the street to a sweet little cove for a swim or to launch a kayak?
The Weathered Grey Cottage is everything as its description says: convenient, private, well stocked, clean. We were delighted to spend two weeks there this past summer and look forward to returning in the summer of 2013,

Owner's Response: Thank you for your lovely review, Merle. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay at the Weathered Grey Cottage and that you are planning to return next summer. We appreciate the comments and requests from our guests as a way to help us enhance the comfort and utility of the cottage. Through our correspondence, you suggested that we add a garlic press to our stock of kitchen utensils. There will be one waiting for you next summer.

It is always a joy to walk to the village since the harbor views are ever- changing with the lobster boats and yachts coming and going. Kayakers can also enjoy these views from another perspective as they explore the harbor and islands from the water. A camera is a must!

The location of the cottage is convenient; Drift Inn Beach, Port Clyde and the ferry to Monhegan Island are just a few miles "down the road" while the city of Rockland is a few more miles the other way.

Our guests can choose to do as much or as little as they wish.
Enjoying the the early morning while sitting on the deck with a good book or watching the sun set over the harbor late in the day are "simple pleasures" that can also be enjoyed.

We will welcome your return in the summer of 2013.
Deb
