We have vacationed all over the beautiful Maine coast many times over the past 30 years. Mt. Desert Island is our particular favorite due to the astounding beauty, tranquility, wildlife viewing, and diverse activities available. My working life has enabled me to visit coastal Maine many times, so Maine always stands foremost in my memory when choosing a vacation destination. This year we required a very special location so our far flung family could gather together. On paper FJORD HOME met every requirement we envisioned. The reality is that FJORD HOME exceeded all our expectations. It is the perfect vacation home. The owner could not be more gracious and accommodating. The house is outfitted with every amenity. The other reviews on this site mention many of the outdoor opportunities available, and they are all seconded. However one one could spend a week alone simply exploring the hiking trails in Acadia NP, not to mention the cycling available on the 55 miles on “carriage roads”.
We had a large family reunion and needed a big house on the water where we could all stay together but still spread out. This house was perfect. It was far enough away from the crowds of Bar Harbor but close enough to drive there in less than 15 minutes. We saw deer and fox each day and enjoyed watching the lobstermen bait their traps and collect the lobster. It was stocked with everything we needed and all the bedrooms were spacious and comfortable. Our favorite thing to do in the evenings was sit on the back deck around the chiminea and enjoy the sounds of the island. Highly recommended.
The proximity of this home to Acadia National Park (15 minutes by car) was fantastic. The teenagers as well as the adults enjoyed the kayaks, but getting them in and out from the rocks posed a little challenge. The deck was a wonderful place to enjoy the Maine scenery, but our wildlife sightings were scarce. We appreciated that the owner was accessible when we had a few questions during our stay.
We had a great vacation at the Fjord home. The description and pictures were a perfect representation of what we found, although pictures could never do it justice. It is a beautiful home with lots of wonderful amenities in a private, secluded location surrounded by wildlife and amazing scenery. We could have never left the home and had a wonderful time, but we also found lots of fun things to do all within a 10-15 minute drive. Access to the park is amazingly close by. The house was comfortable for everyone from 2 - 70. We made lots of lifetime memories here!
We had one of the best vacataions in a long time at this house. The location is stunning, and the house is perfect. It is full service without being stuffy. Our group's ages ranged from 4 to 79, and everyone was perfectly comfortable. There is ample space for folks to lounge around together or escpe with a book. The kayaks were a ton of fun, and there is a perfect lake for swimming less than 10 minutes from the house (with a sandy beach!) Perhaps most importanly, the deck is perfect for "speed sitting." We saw deer on the property daily and saw bald eagles, cormorants, and loons. We went into Acadia only once and had traffic from re-paving, but we had no complaints. There was so much to do. I would return to this house in a heart beat with a crowd of all ages!
This was the most amazing place we have ever vacationed. The house was gorgeous, the view was breath taking, and so secluded all just minutes from Acadia National Park. The home owner is absoulutely the best to work with, he gave immediate answers to questions and provided lots of ideas for side trips, etc. This was our first trip to Maine and it won't be our last and this is the only place we will stay even if it means chosing dates based on availability of this house. It does not get better than this for a vacation rental vrbo experience.
On the west shore of Some Sound with amazing sunrise views looking out over the water towards the mountains to the east. There are five separate decks providing areas to relax and take in all of the natural beauty of the area.
