OCEANFRONT-WITH DOCK+KAYAKS+DINGY ON SOMES SOUND ABUTS ACADIA PARK

My extended family spent the week of 7-28-12 through 8-4-12 at the Fjord House and had a wonderful stay. We've stayed on Mt. Desert Island before and found this location to be the best. The house is very private and also centrally located on the island with easy access to all towns and habors. The house is also very large and easily acommodated the group while also affording privacy; perfect for extended familes or multiple families.

Best of all is the veiw of the sound; we enjoyed watching the lobstermen pull in their catch and the other boats heading in and out of the Sound. Easy access to the water was also great for kayaking and fishing from the dock.

Harvey, the owner, was very helpful in offering suggestions for restaraunts and things to to do - especially for our 16 and 20 year old sons who enjoyed kayaking up to Somes Cove and swimming at the 'Ledges" on Echo Lake. It was a very memorable trip (especially with tmperatures of 112-114 degrees back home).

We spent a wonderful week at this comfortable home on the quietside of MDI and could not be happier. Our family has stayed at several properties in the Somesville and SW Harbor area over the years but this property has been the nicest. We watched the sunrise each morning over Somes Sound from the master bedroom doors out to the patio and my parents had a great time collecting mussels from the shoreline. Everyone liked seeing the family of red foxes each evening and catching glimpses of seals and porpoises in Somes Sound from the dock. There is ample space in the house and it is well maintained. We definitely would recommend the Fjord Home to anyone considering renting a home in the area.

We're not sure we want to advertise this gem too heavily since the "quiet side" and your home clearly have everything anyone needs for a great vacation. The house is beautiful and well maintained, entirely private, full of bedrooms with plenty of extra space, spacious decks, gorgeous views, fully equipped from kayaks to outdoor lobster pot and butter warmers. The dock is a great place to hang out in the morning to watch lobster boats, read a book in the sun or fish from. We made several trips to nearby Bar Harbor and the main attractions at Acadia, but the fun part of our trip was discovering Southwest, Northeast and lots of great hikes within minutes of the house (from Echo Lake Cliffs to Seawall). Find Captain Karl and take the Alice E out for a day - we went to Baker Island. Outdoor dining at Abel's watching the sun set was the girls' favorite. We had several days of rain (unusual for Maine in August) and couldn't care less - we just picked up some books at the Southwest Library and curled up on the couch and watched the storm and the boats go by (after hiking in the rain). Great trip!
