The Prins & Brouwer was launched on March 8, 2003. It's hull design is that of a classic River barge from the 1920s so it blends in well with the 17th century surroundings of the canal it is moored on. Along the Canal you will find 17th century old warehouses, which by now have all been restored and converted to comfortable homes. It is a spectacular view to wake up to, each morning. The classic exterior of the ship is somewhat deceiving which you will realize when you enter our home, and experience the remarkable spacious interior. Succesfull Dutch architect, Maurice van Bakel has a keen eye for aesthetics in combination with optimization of available space.
Space & Light: We had three wishes: space, plenty of natural light, in a contemporary yet Cozy design.
The result is astonishing. It is said that the Dutch are the tallest people in the world. I myself am 6ft, 4'' (1.93mtr) tall but the rooms never feel cramped. The hull design has been enlarged from its original 1927 drawings to create higher ceilings and more space. The interior design lines are clean and playful, allowing an open flow from one room to the next. This ship is in the first place our own home, so we certainly did not compromise on quality. We have used only the best materials in the construction and fittings which resulted in a convenient, cozy and well appointed beautiful house. With it's different levels you can always find a room or space to be on your own. If you feel like it, perhaps in the lounge to watch a movie on the Loewe flat screen in full Bose surround sound or maybe upstairs in the Den with a good book and a glass of wine.
Comfort: Our favorite place to be however is outside on the large 600 sq ft/60 mtr2 deck. At the large outside table you can enjoy your dinner with many friends. Perhaps Barbeque yourself a nice meal and enjoy all the little boats and people passing by which provide extra entertainment and the occasional friendly comment on your nice abode.
In the spring and summer various canal festivals make their way past our home providing fun entertainment.
Our home is not only a great place to enjoy during spring and summer, it is an equally pleasant stay during Fall and Winter. The climate control system provides both heating as well as air conditioning to keep you comfortable no matter what weather it is outside. Christmas and New years are a great time to enjoy our home as well.
We'll provide a 'real' Christmas tree, and if you are lucky you will also catch the traditional Christmas boat parade with each boat carrying a choir singing Christmas Carrols (December 23rd).
Neighbourhood: The ship is located conveniently near grocery shopping, trendy restaurants, boutiques and fresh markets. All this, within one to five minutes walking distance. The Wednesday and Saturday morning fresh markets across the Canal are truly superb. A great variety of Dutch flowers can be found at a steal and you?ll find the best fresh produce right there on your doorstep.Public transportation is nearby, you can hop on a bus right along the canal or walk to the Central train station in less than ten minutes. If you have a car you can reach the highway in about ten minutes also. The best way to get around, however, is by ?Rent a bike?. You can rent one nearby on our canal.

just taking a quick moment to say thanks to Rene and the owners, and offer the most excellent review after an amazing stay on board...my wife, her mother in law, our daughter and 2 of her friends just wrapped a 15th bday celebration that will go down in the books as the best one yet...Rene handled everything perfectly, and my wofe did great research to find a local vegetarian chef as well as a local baker...very central location, easy to get to and easier to get from Prins and Brouwer to all of the sites in Amsterdam...don't hesitate, you will be amazed!
Our family stayed at the houseboat on vacation. We had a wonderful time. Everything you could think of was on the boat. One afternoon we sat on deck and watched the world go by. People in their boats, sightseeing boats and hundreds of bicycles going by. It is docked in a great location, close to a Saturday market and several wonderful restaurants and shopping. We look forward to visiting again and staying on the Prins and Brouwer
First stop Amsterdam and the Prins & Brouwer. Who needs a hotel room when you have a luxury houseboat with all the comforts of home. 5 adults shared the Prins & Bouwer for 4 wonderful nights. Spacious, appointed and comfortable! We all loved it! After a day of sightseeing we enjoyed lounging on the deck, enjoying some wine and our fish & chips. You cannot beat a houseboat in Amsterdam and this one has it all. Superb location! Thank you Renee!
From the moment we stepped aboard we knew we had made the right choice. We had 10 days aboard this magnificent ship and wish we could have stayed longer. The manager and the owner made us feel very welcome and indeed, this place felt like home. It had everything you could want in terms of self catering and living accessories. It is bright, modern and very comfortable. The location is extraordinary as you can walk or cycle anywhere in central Amsterdam. I can't say enough about this rental and I couldn't imagine staying anywhere else in Amsterdam! Rene and Ingrid spoiled us and we were made to feel like family. We look forward to our next visit.
Thanks for everything!
We stayed here earlier this summer and had a wonderful time. There were 4 of us, my wife, myself and two teenagers. The boat had plenty of room, was clean, in a great location and was the perfect place to sit outside and watch canal traffic.
Markets, shopping and restaurants are all very close, and it is a short walk to the main train station. We had no problems getting around the entire city using either public transportation or our feet.
Rene was a wonderful host. He met us at the boat, went over all the features and told us about the local neighborhood. We also arranged transportation to the airport for our departure back home.
We all had a great time in Amsterdam and staying on this canal boat was definitely the right choice for us.
We felt very fortunate to be able to stay in this lovely houseboat. My kids(2 teens) knew we were staying on a houseboat but were expecting something a bit more rustic-boy were they pleasantly surprised. This is more like a floating apartment! High ceilings, lots of light, nice kitchen, room for all of us. Of course our favorite spot was the topside dining table and being able to eat on deck and watch all the action on the canals. We all want to come back next summer!!
Our home is located in the Jordaan, a quaint neighborhood in the city of Amsterdam. It is conveniently located near fresh markets, restaurants, bars, boutiques, museums, public transportation and the Central Train Station.
