Amazing Location and unique house

  • 5 of 5

My family truly enjoyed our 3 day vacation at this property. It is a unique property with lots of nooks and unexpected surprises. The property was very clean and has the perfect patio for entertaining. We met lots of friendly people as they strolled, biked or roller bladed by. I would recommend this property for anyone wanting to experience the San Diego beach life. Once you park your car you never have to drive it again as there are stores, restaurants, and fun things to do within walking distance. Lots of beach toys and chairs come with the property.

Cute and Quirky

  • 4 of 5

First of all, we totally enjoyed our stay here. The location was perfect-just blocks from restaurants, bars, grocery stores, etc...We popped up to Garnet Ave to the Trader Joes there and then checked out some of the fun and unusual stores in that neighborhood. It was a 5 minute drive to Sea World. We were able to watch their NYE fireworks from the front step of the cottage. And, a nice sandy beach right out the front door with great sand toys already in the garage. We also crossed Mission Blvd and walked along the Pacific beach a few times. The Zoo, La Jolla and Old Town all quick drives. We had dinner at Saska's on Mission Blvd. one night on the recommendation from the book provided and it was wonderful.

As for the cottage, I will grant you it has it's quirks, but still very hospitable. The living/dining room area is nice and spacious. The master bedroom is just big enough. Our girls loved their room with the bunk bed. Yes, the Water Closet is separate from the rest of the bathroom, but it made it easier for us to get ready each day. The kitchen is stocked well enough to prepare the few meals we had there. The outside patio is quite large and perfect for coffee or a cocktail and people watching.

If I were to criticize at all, I would say time to ditch the blinds and get some nice shades from Ikea. They would be so much easier to use and even give more of a "beach" feel to the cottage. Also, that poor kitchen has been painted over enough. Might be time for some updates. Does not have to be fancy, but drawers that open and close would be nice.

Overall, we loved our stay here and would come back.

Just to clarify...this is no "shack"

  • 5 of 5

I have stayed at this property twice and am going back again in Nov 2014. The whole reason for writing this review is because I became upset when reading some 1 star reviews that called this place a "shack". This house was one of the originals in the area. One day while sitting on the patio, 3 ladies came strolling by. I overheard one of them say "I grew up in this house" pointing to where I was staying. I stopped them, talked for a while and then invited her in. She took me on a grand tour, telling me how the house had changed and what renovations had been made since she lived here 50+ years earlier. It was amazing! The toilet is not in fact "in" the bathroom, its next to the bathroom....NOT in the garage! And that is due to the fact that it once WAS outside of the house. The history here is awesome.

So yes, if you are looking for some trendy, happening, fancy, yuppie place to stay then this property is not for you. BUT....if you are like me and value and enjoy a funky, perfectly located, comfortable, homey place to relax and enjoy beautiful Mission Bay....then stay here!!! I have NEVER seen any signs of pests or uncleanliness! Initially it does smell "closed up" but my goodness....you're in San Diego....open the windows up and let the bay breeze blow in! Its gorgeous!

Just what we needed!

  • 4 of 5

Our family of four stayed here for 4 nights to celebrate our daughters nearby college graduation. Loved loved the location. Even though the cottage has a bit of an unusual layout, it worked beautifully for us. Sitting on the front porch "people watching" on those beautiful evenings was fun. The cottage was well stocked and clean and had lots of usedul fans. Great stay!

Perfect Weekend!

  • 5 of 5

We had such an amazing time at this spacious cottage on the Bayside. The place was clean, inviting and most of all had the best view of Sail Bay. We were close to everything (shops, grocery store, entertainment) and only steps from the beach! The home had all the comforts of home and then some. We left the windows open for a cool breeze and sat on the patio to people watch and enjoy the sunset/sunrise. Our toddlers loved staying here as well with lots of sand toys in the garage to play with and the bunk beds were a hit too. A special thank you to Cindy for coordinating our stay and for the extra special welcoming touch of chocolates waiting for us upon arrival. We can't wait to stay here again!!

Amazing location, fantastic vacation spot!

  • 5 of 5

My girlfriend and I chose to stay at this house for three months based on the prime location and the scenic photos, and we weren't disappointed! It doesn't get much better than enjoying breakfast and coffee on the large front patio while watching boats cruise along Mission Bay just a few yards away.

This quiet, cozy, well-maintained cottage has charming personality and it is central to everything. The bay is within a stone's throw distance, the beach can be reached in a one-minute walk, and a wide selection of restaurants is also within walking distance. In short, this cottage was the perfect combination of waterfront living and closeness to all of the fun activities we were looking for.

We enjoyed every minute spent at this house and won't hesitate to rent here again for our next San Diego vacation!
