True "Home Away" from home!!

True "Home Away" from home!!
  • 5 of 5
My husband and I stayed at the cottage for a week in July 2013. We had such a relaxing and wonderful time that upon departing we asked if we could come again in 2014. For us the cottage is an oasis away from the hectic pace of everyday life. The pictures on the site are exactly what the cottage is like. There are deer, rabbits, and birds on the property which is beautifully maintained by Valerie, the owner of this special place. Although the cottage is not "modern" it is not lacking for any of our needs. It is great to have the options of grilling out back, making breakfast in the kitchen, and sitting out on the deck to have a cocktail and bite to eat before heading into town for dinner. The outside shower is fabulous after coming home from the beach! I would recommend this property to close friends and relatives, but not to too many people because I want to be able to visit every year!! The only negative to staying at the cottage is having to leave at the end of the week.

What a Find !!!

  • 5 of 5
What charm! What history! What a wonderful find! This cottage is so comfy, warm and inviting …you will fall in love with it just as I did. My husband and I returned again in June this year for another wonderful stay. We enjoyed all the amenities offered from the wonderful owner and host. If you are looking for quiet and the beauty of nature all around you…then this is the perfect spot. The cottage is well appointed, the grounds are immaculately maintained and we enjoyed having our morning coffee out on the sunny deck, and a refreshing outdoor shower after returning from the nearby beach. It is an easy 2 mile drive to Siasconset and the little shops and restaurants there or take the 10 minute drive back into the downtown area for all the shopping, restaurants and galleries there. Thanks Valerie for all your hospitality and special touches. We look forward to another visit real soon!

Could not ask for more

  • 5 of 5
We came here for our anniversary and could not have asked for a better place to spend the week. We have visited the island many times and stayed at all the top rated hotels - but this place is better than any commercial or resort property. It's the perfect combination of accessible and private. The house was clean and spacious. We spent most of our time outside in the backyard - equipped with a deck, outside shower and grill. Valeri - the owner - was simply the best. We can't wait to come back.

Great summer cottage

  • 5 of 5
This peaceful cottage in Tom Nevers is a perfect summer escape. My wife and I have been coming here four summers in a row for two weeks, and we love it. The cottage is quaint, rustic, and well-decorated. If you are looking to relax, this is the place for you. There is a deck with chairs, a private yard with table and chairs, lounge chairs, and a gas grill if you are so inclined. The outdoor shower is wonderful. The grounds are immaculately kept. The owner Valerie is lovely, and is always available should you need anything, but never intrusive . The cottage has wi-fi, and all the basic amenities you should need. Tom Nevers beach is just a mile down the road, and almost always empty. There are not many places you can go and essentially have a beach to yourself. Sconset village is not far either, and there are a couple of good restaurants there. It is about a 10 minute drive to Nantucket town. Overall, a great place to stay, and a great value for Nantucket. I highly recommend

Magical, Charming, Peaceful Oasis

  • 5 of 5
We had a lovely time here. The cottage is beyond charming, and so well done. The grounds were incredibly well taken care of, and every detail of the interior of the cottage so thoughtfully attended to. My son loved the trompe l'oeil 'bakery case' painted on the kitchen well, replete with 'goodies'! So many hidden and wonderful details and a magical place. Peaceful, serene, we barely wanted to leave and explore the island, we were so happy here. As for a prior renter complaining of insects, it feels like that is an impossible proposition on this island in a cottage of this age, to not have the occasional outdoor visitor. There was so much to enjoy about this cottage, that it seemed like it came with the territory and we just loved being on this very special property. Valerie could not have been more gracious or helpful during our visit. We are appreciative that we got to enjoy such a special place! It is as charming and adorable and wonderful as it seems--as good in person, if not better, than the photos make it appear!

Historical Cottage - Tom Nevers

  • 3 of 5
This place has a lot of history, which was such a selling point. It has ample room to entertain, both inside and out and the neighborhood was very quiet. The outdoor shower was a plus. Keep in mind that this is a summer cottage and that the warmer summer months sometimes bring the uninvited visitor and this one had cockroaches - which put a bit of a damper on the week. The owner did provide pesticide and was super nice.

Owner's Response: For the record and as a conscientious homeowner, who takes GREAT pride in my property, I want to make it very clear that there are NO "cockroaches" in this cottage. This Historic cottage is on an island in a very beautiful, natural setting surrounded by nature. The renovation of this cottage and property was a labor of love by my husband and I. It is inevitable that in the warm summer months the occasional "uninvited" insect (ants, spiders, etc will visit, however "cockroaches" are NOT among them. (When I received this review I immediately contacted an expert who and came out and validated this) I wish that this renter had addressed this with me directly and right away so I could have immediately addressed her fears about the insect she had misidentified. I am always very available to my guests.
Also for the record...I did not provide "pesticide" since I maintain a very "green" property.. However my cleaners did notice that one of my renters left a can of spray which has since been removed.
I am grateful for the many wonderful repeat guests over the years who have enjoyed and cherished this special "natural" oasis my husband and I created.
