|Minimum Stay||3 nights|
This 'Quintessential Palm Springs Mid-Century Modern House' has been beautifully maintained since it was built in 1957; additional upgrades and enhancements such as large Sony HD flat-screen TVs and wired/wireless broadband internet bring together the best of the 60's time-capsule experience with modern techno-geek conveniences. The design aesthetic is pure 'Mad Men', right down to the pink tile bathrooms, Danish-Modern furniture, & funky retro lamps (Think 'Mad Men meets Google'). Each bedroom is a Mini-Master with private bathroom. The spacious living room opens out to the large yard and swimming pool area creating a perfect entertainment 'flow'.
I've personally sampled other vacation-rentals in the area and know what it's like to be disappointed with a cheaply done IKEA & kitsch decor, so I strive to make this house an authentic Palm Springs retro experience. There's an huge library of all High-Def movies (over 600 classic and new release movies) that can be viewed 'on-demand' (free of charge) from every room via the AppleTVs.
There is a 3 Night minimum stay (and I'm sorry but there are no exceptions to the 3-night rule so please don't ask).

I purchased this house to create the quintessential Palm Springs Retro vacation experience.
Total privacy and bliss. The perfect place to share with family and friends. The street is quiet and safe with little to no through-traffic, yet close enough to walk to downtown Palm Springs. Perfect for entertaining or as a 'fortress of solitude' / writing retreat.
Nice spacious house. Wonderful, mature backyard. Love the ping pong table!
I planned a bachelorette party for a good friend of mine, who wanted 12 of her closest friends to enjoy a weekend of laying by the pool in the Palm Springs sunshine. I found it very easy to work with Glenda, the house manager, and had a fantastic stay. The house has a very interesting look - modern on the outside and retro on the inside - but it's all very beautiful and clean and spacious. The backyard was our oasis though - the pool was perfectly heated and clean, the backyard is gorgeous and framed by palm trees with a beautiful view of the nearby mountains. We spent most of our time in the backyard and had the best, most relaxing time. My only gripe was that both the gardener and the gentleman who cleans the pool arrived during our stay, when they were scheduled to arrive during the week. But I shared that feedback with Glenda, who assured me that their schedules would be updated right away. We had a fantastic stay in this house - I couldn't have asked for a better location, a more relaxing and spacious environment, or a more involved and helpful house manager. I can't wait to visit again!
The house is spacious and we loved the midcentury modern style. There is plenty of room to spread out. There are multiple apple TVs and really nice Mac computers. Yes the kitchen is a little outdated but that's the point- this is a midcentury style house and the kitchen was totally functional, we cooked all our breakfasts there and everything was great. But the real highlight here is the yard-- the pool is great, the lawn is lovely (we did yoga on it!), and the hot tub is big and clean. You can see the mountains from your chaise lounge, hammock, or pool raft. SO RELAXING! Not to mention there are grapefruit, tangerine and orange trees in the backyard with ripe fruits for the picking. Best tangerine I've ever had-- we made fresh squeezed juice every day. Yes, it is on the pricey side but it is normally priced for the area. You can also walk to the strip and restaurants, shops, etc. We definitely want to come back!
The house is spacious and the yard is lovely. However, it's tired and needs TLC and in my opinion the rental cost doesn't reflect the state/quality of the property.
The kitchen is woefully understocked and has an antique gas range that leaks (very slowly, but leaks nonetheless) so you have to turn off the main gas valve hidden in the cupboard after every use. There's no laundry detergent available. We stayed 4 days with two kids and had to buy detergent and have left 3/4 of a box-full...apparently the owner has a policy where he doesn't buy detergent. Why? It's so petty! We paid enough money for the owner to spend $15 on laundry detergent which, like us, no group will get through in their short stay. There weren't any teaspoons. The coffee mugs were huge and naff. The plates old. The bowls too big. There wasn't adequate cooking utensils, they were all old and worn...no plastic spatula for your scrambled eggs and pancakes. The saucepans are old. There's a rubbish toaster oven. No nice dishes. Nothing that $500 at Bed Bath & Beyond couldn't fix. The property manager - Glenda's - comment when I brought this up was to say most people don't do laundry and they eat out.
I guess, we are not most people.
I booked the Mirador House for a fun Ladies' Weekend back in June. Upon arrival, we were all taken with how great the house, yard and pool were. But the property manager, Glenda, told us that the weekend before, they had rented the house to eight 22 year olds and when she came to check them out on Sunday, there were 35 suntan-oiled twenty somethings in the pool. She said that the pool guy may be out during our stay to give the pool a clean.
We were not looking forward to dealing with pool maintenance on our 3-day vacation, but as the weekend went on, the pool began to turn green and the film from the leftover tanning oil made it less and less usable. We arrived Thursday and by Saturday morning, we considered not using the pool at all.
We called Glenda because it seemed the filter was not working, but she never got back to us. The owner, Ed, called me at the house on Sunday morning. He apologized for the mess and said that in Palm Springs in June, you rent the house mainly for the pool. He also offered me a refund, which as of writing this review on September 20, I have still not received. I have tried many times, but cannot get in touch with him.
Overall, it is a very nice house, but we had a problem and it went unresolved. I will not rent this house again.
We absolutely loved our stay at the Mirador House! From the large comfortable bedrooms, authentic style furnishings and amazing views we couldn't have been happier! The kids were thrilled to have play station 3 in the bedrooms and a huge selection of great movies to choose from. We look forward to our next visit to the Mirador House!
