This sunshine filled 1860s house was completely renovated one year ago as a one family home, with lovely details. Situated on a 20x100 foot lot the house is 2400 square feet and includes a 100 square foot deck off the kitchen and another off the garden level. Both decks overlook a large garden extensively planted with cutting flowers and a raised bed with organic vegetables.
The garden level has 2 offices, a full bathroom, and a large den. The den has a large television and a wrap around couch that pulls out into a queen size bed. The second floor has a large cooks kitchen with marble counters, stainless steel appliances, and Miele dishwasher. There is a large outdoor deck off the kitchen, visible through a wall of windows. The eating area connects to the living room where there is a wood burning fireplace. The whole floor is bathed in golden light from the southern facing windows. Up a winding staircase to the third floor, there is a large skylight above, allowing natural light to flow to the floor below. This floor has 2 large bedrooms and an alcove for writing, reading or sewing. There is a washing machine and dryer located in a linen closet. Each bedroom has a large closet. This floor also has a full bathroom with a window looking over the garden and a large soaking tub.
It is a great house for writers and artists; the light and quiet is inspiring. It is also a great house for kids as many activities can be going on at each different level. There are no other families or apartments in the building assuring complete privacy.

In spite of the cold weather, we were greeted by a warmth as soon as we opened the front door. The interior is warm, artistic, and very liveable. There was plenty of living space for our family of 5, as opposed to feeling cramped and claustrophobic in a couple of hotel rooms. I may be spoiled, but I relished the spaciousness we had in this home during our stay!
Within close walking distance, there are an assortment of terrific shops, restaurants, and markets. We shopped nearby for the breakfast supplies we enjoyed each morning, and on many evenings walked but a few blocks to dinner, for tapas, pasta, and more. One night for dessert we went to The Chocolate Room, and had spicy hot chocolate, flourless chocolate cake, and a chocolate layer cake; we overdosed on chocolate, but we had great fun! The house is located near subway stations, so it was quick and easy to get to Manhattan, although we also explored Brooklyn a bit, and enjoyed Prospect Park, the Greenlight Bookstore, the Brooklyn Museum of Art, and other places.
The listing description and photos were accurate, the property was clean and well-maintained, and the owners were very helpful before, during, and after our stay. I would definitely recommend this property to a friend or relative, although there are steps leading up to and inside of this triplex, which could be an issue for some people. We truly appreciated staying here, and would love to return someday. :)
Our group of 3 adults, 2 children enjoyed our 8 day stay in this lovely home as we visited NYC for nearby wedding festivities as well as time to enjoy both Brooklyn, Brooklyn Bridge Park, the Promenade and Manhattan. Who would have thought that a location so near to so much would have been such a place of peace and quiet?! This brownstone is eclectically decorated with many shops and restaurants within a short walk, including a great French cafe which became our "place to go" for morning coffee and croissants. The subway is just a few blocks away allowing easy trips to all parts of Manhattan. The owners were great to work with as we finalized our plans, providing us with a clean home in which to stay, and were prompt with their follow-up with us and return of security deposit. Definitely beats a hotel. This venue gave our group of "outsiders" a chance to have a taste of living like real New Yorkers.
We absolutely loved our stay at this address in Brooklyn. It was near the subway 3 stops to Manhattan, 15 minutes to the heart of downtown, and 1/2 block from one of the coolest blocks in Brooklyn, full of restaurants and boutiques as well as great food and wine shops.
The owners were very helpful and the house is so beautiful! It was super clean and everything worked. The big screen and lots of movies downstairs made for a few cozy evenings. The kitchen is big and full of sunshine, we were always a bit late getting out of the house because its so lovely staying put! The garden is divine! This house was one I would recommend to friends and one we hope to stay at the next time we travel to NYC.
What a delightful place to stay! We thoroughly enjoyed our vacation. The house is beautiful -- especially in the morning light which shone through the kitchen windows. The chaise by the windows was the most sought-after location for morning coffee.
Melissa's house had everything we needed. Most importantly, it was a comfortable place to come home to after a busy day exploring NYC. We travelled with an 11 year-old and a 78 year-old grandmother. It worked really well as there was plenty of space for all of us.
The house is only a short walk to the subway -- and our best meals were had at restaurants literally around the corner from the house. I would recommend Melissa's place to anyone looking to visit and explore NYC.
Loved staying at this home. We found the location to be excellent, the house to be spacious, clean, filled with light and totally comfortable- great kitchen to hang out in and cook. If you like restaurants and food this particular area of Brooklyn is in the center of the foodie scene. Super close to subway, which is a quick jump to Manhattan. No problems with owner or getting security deposit back.
We picked this location for its proximity to a wedding where five adults and one toddler could get to markets, restaurants, and the wedding by foot and stroller. The living areas, kitchen, deck, bedrooms, and bathrooms were beautiful, clean, and very comfortable...it is a home and it felt like home for us. The owners gave us lots of good tips for nearby restaurants, amenities, and a neighbor's phone and email which we never had to use. Our only problem was not enough time to visit and experience all the immediate area had to offer. Unlimited choices for strolling, shopping and many varied restaurants of all price and cuisine were as close as 1/2 block away, but our street was quiet and secure. We did take our toddler to Central Park Zoo via the subway and found accessibility to Manhattan easy too. We could not have asked for a better choice. The owners were great to work with!!!! We were told to pick fresh flowers or produce from their garden which was fun and delicious for our grandson.
We are near Michelin rated restaurants, tennis courts, and gyms. You can easily bike to Prospect Park or Manhattan. Many great designer boutiques, antiques, bookstores and cafes. There is a farmers market on the weekends and gourmet food shops a few steps away. There are several places to do art, both for kids and adults from ceramics to sculpture.
