We bought and lived in this building for many years. I love the look of it and since my mother and grandmother and sons were all born in San Francisco, I really wanted to own a piece of it. This is our castle. I volunteer at the Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park and love spending nights here. My husband and I are both retired chemists who enjoy what the city has to offer. Members of the family have lived here for different amounts of time. Currently we live in Marin.
The Owner purchased this studio in 1974
San Francisco is a unique city and the variety and quantity of foods, entertainments, shopping experiences, etc. make it an ideal place to own a vacation rental Also, my sons would be fifth generation San Franciscans if I hadn't been born in Texas. It is extremely convienent for me to walk to the Academy of Sciences when I work there from this apartment and we have many friends who live in the neighborhood.
As with most vacations, it is away from home. I can easily walk or take public transportation to any part of the city-to the Ferry building for the farmers market or a trip to Sausalito-to USF for classes, to UCSF to visit patients we know. There is also just great city energy.
The location is great!! One block from Haight St and half block from Golden Gate Park. Great use of small charming space. Price is excellent. It felt like home and we had everything we needed.
This studio was the perfect place to stay for me and my mother's trip to San Francisco! The studio was exactly as described and just like the pictures, the chair in the picture of the bedroom area folds out to another bed so there is a good amount of sleeping space, very clean, very easy to get to and the instructions on how to get in and the amenities of the space were very easy to follow. The owners were flexible with accommodating our flight arrival and departure times and were easy to get a hold of and prompt to respond to inquiries. There is a major bus line about 2 blocks away from the property that takes you right into the downtown area of the city where you can hop a cable car or just walk around town. We rented bikes from a rental spot also 2 blocks away and took them around Golden Gate Park, up to the bridge, and back. There are some great breakfast spots on Haight street, lots of unique shops, and a local market or a Whole Foods a few blocks away. We would definitely stay here again!
Perfect little hideaway for two in a great location! Tiny but well appointed, clean and efficient. Surprisingly quiet place right next to Golden Gate Park, close to public transit and good restaurants (check out the Persian place called Lavash near the Park!). We didn't rent a car but got here from SFO via BART and bus 71, in about an hour. It was very easy to get around anywhere we wanted in the city (Google Maps on the iPhone integrates with transit schedules which was really helpful too!) Whole Foods right around the corner meshed well with the nicely equipped kitchen. Owners are very friendly and helpful. We would stay here again in a heartbeat!
Staying here turned out to be an essential component of our city experience. The place is nearly exactly as describe, complete with a “junk drawer”, so if you need a paper clip, rubber band, and a book mark from the Grand Canyon you are at the right place. It is homey and funky in the best way. So if you are the kind of traveler that prefers to spend their money on nice surroundings and stay in the McHiltons, this may not be the place for you. It is also very secure and surprisingly quiet from street noise after the daily traffic winds down.
We drove into town and I saw the other warnings about parking but it is far worse than that. It is very difficult to park and you have to be patient. If you have a choice to ditch the car and just use transit that is the wise thing to do. Or get directions to the public parking lot ahead of time so after circling for 20 minutes without finding anything you can go there instead of having a stroke.
Last, there is a rental bicycle shop only a block away and you can ride from there through Golden Gate park eventually making your way to the bridge and waterfront. You have the option of turning the bike in along the waterfront and taking the 71 bus home. They are high quality bikes and with good weather you will have an amazing day.
My wife and I stayed there while visiting our daughter at USF. It is very close to USF, UCSF, Golden Gate Park and Haight Ashbury. The rest of SF is very close and convenient too - for example we caught a bus a block away that quickly took us straight to the Mission District.
It is small but very well organized, and worked well for the two of us. Our daughter stayed over and there was still enough room. And the kitchen is well-provisioned.
The owners are very friendly, helpful and accessible.
I stayed here will attending the Outside Lands Music Festival as the apartment is located adjacent to Golden Gate Park and made getting to the action easy. The studio is small but the use of available space is a work of art! I was amazed how it well furnished it was with everything I needed. I usually stay in the North Beach area when visiting the city and this neighborhood is so much quieter even though you are only one block from the Upper Haight St. area. As stated in other reviews Muni stops are everywhere nearby.
Internet and TV worked great but no ESPN. No problem, Kezar Pub is around the corner for your sports fix.
