My wife Jen and I are both working professionals, and parents of a beautiful little girl Sophie who is the light of our lives. Shortly after her birth, we closed on this property and feel truly blessed to be able to raise a family in such a wonderful environment. When a friend of ours saw the house she said 'oh, you have a frog', and we looked at her with a puzzled expression and asked her to explain. 'A frog, you know a Finished Room Over the Garage' The name stuck and we've also added the alternative meaning of 'Friends, Relatives and Other Guests'

The Owner purchased this bungalow in 2009

We have been looking for a home with a guest house for a number of years, and this property truly exceeded all of our expectations. The guest house, 117 Lighthouse Ave is a luxury, 800 square foot apartment above the detached 3 car garage. There is a smaller room complete with bunk beds that is perfect for kids.

117 Lighthouse Avenue was built in 2008 and has 800 square feet of living space. The home is built over a detached, oversized three car garage and has views of the Eucalyptus groves in Lighthouse Field. The guest house shares a 1/4 acre lot with the owner's residence and has a wonderful sense of privacy and serenity.

Great location!

I brought my family for a tour of UCSC and stayed at the Frog. It was perfect for the 3 of us. The Frog was in a great location near the beach and just a short drive to the university. The Frog was clean and very well maintained. Parking was especially easy in a safe neighborhood.

Fantastic!

My husband and I stayed in the FROG for a week in mid-October. We had a blast! The weather was a bit chillier in the mornings and evenings than we expected, but that was OK, because it gave me an excuse to check out all the shops on Pacific Ave. Meanwhile, my husband managed to rent a good road bike from Family Cycle and took off for hours exploring the hills around Santa Cruz. We both cooked and dined out--I highly recommend visiting the farmers' market on Wednesdays downtown. Johnny's Haborside was wonderful (and made sure my meal was dairy-free) and Mobo was excellent for sushi. Other recommendations for things to do--see the redwoods at the Henry Cowell state park, go to the monarch reserve, walk along the beach path (gorgeous), go wine tasting, see the UCSC campus (and buy yourself some banana slug wear), and eat as much fresh seafood as possible.

For the FROG specifically, it is very clean and comfortable. I was in kitchen heaven with all the counter space and the new appliances! I also liked that laundry was on-site, so we didn't have to pack up dirty clothing, or bring as much stuff. The location is ideal if you want access to the ocean (i.e. for surfing), want access to the beach path, want to be able to walk to the downtown, but don't want to stay in one of the hotels right by the boardwalk. Coming from the city, it is QUIET at the FROG. The only thing we heard at night was sometimes the barking of sea lions.

As a note: if you are feeling strange about renting a bungalow on the owners' property, don't at all! It is very private. The owners are incredibly nice when we did happen to see them, and they weren't checking it on us during the week. I would recommend the FROG to all!

My husband, infant and I stayed here for two nights and found the FROG to be as new and impeccable as billed. We really appreciated being able to use their portable crib. Very comfortable bed, updated kitchen and bathroom, great neighborhood with plenty of street parking available.

Beautiful space in a beautiful neighborhood

What a great place! First of all, the neighborhood is lovely and quiet - there are some neighborhoods in town that are a little...sketchy...but this one is beautiful and safe. No worries about parking on the street, and we walked from the house to the beach and boardwalk every day when we stayed (late April 2011.

My daughter and I felt like we were on "House Hunters", oohing and ahhing over the granite countertops and stainless steel appliances. :) The tile throughout the house and in the bathroom is gorgeous - all the finishes are top notch. It's a great deal - very close to the price of the nicer hotels in town (and far less than the Dream Inn), but for the price of a double room you get a living room, eat in kitchen, a washer and dryer, and essentially two bedrooms.

We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again!

CAN NOT GO WRONG WITH THIS ONE. CLOSE TO THE BEACH AND PIER. OWENERS ARE VERY FREINDLY. WE HAVE STAYED A 3 VRBO PROPETIES IN SANTA CRUZ AND THIS ONE IS TOP NOTCH. CLOSE TO THE REDWOODS, MONTEREY AND WINEIRES. GREAT BALCONY WITH CHAIRS AND BBQ. GREAT FOR AFTERNOON WINE AND LISTEN TO THE SURF. WALK WEST CLIFF DRIVE AND ENJOY THE OCEAN AND THE GREAT HOMES. PROPERTY WAS CLEAN AND WELL MAINTAINED. WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PROPERTY.
