About Joel Williams & Sindy Todo

I (Joel) am an interactive designer and Sindy (who manages bookings) lives across the street from me in Seattle. I love going to Austin when I can, and Sindy is a native Texan with lots of hospitality experience.

Why Joel Williams & Sindy Todo chose Austin

I wanted a place in Austin to be near my parents. I fell in love with the house because it is so well preserved - all of the charm of the early twentieth century with modern conveniences like central A/C. Also, the location simply cannot be beat - walking distance to the best restaurants and shopping in Austin, with a supermarket two blocks away in the opposite direction.

They say everything is big in Texas...

and so are the cockroaches in this house. My family stayed at this house for a second time this past April. While we love the house and the location of the house, we were disappointed to find ROACHES in the kitchen. This finding really disheartend us as we had to throw out all of the groceries we bought for the trip out, eat out for the remainder of the trip and carefully pack so we did not bring one of those disgusting pests home with us. I notified the Manager of our finding. She apologized and said this was the first time she heard of this. I find this peculiar as while we were cleaning, preparing to leave. We found several roach traps in the kitchen. Sorry, I cannot recommend staying here unless you are ok with vacationing with roaches.
Owner's Response: We are very sorry this occurred. As Sindy said on the phone, we have never heard a complaint about this before. We have later learned that our cleaning service put out roach traps as a preventive measure, since they were aware of a weather-related outbreak of the problem in the area.

Please know that we take this very seriously and have since hired a service to thoroughly exterminate the area on an ongoing basis. We are not crazy about spraying chemicals around the house, but have been assured that the service is safe to humans and animals (with the exception of pests). These vermin may not be common where you are from, but they are pervasive in Central Texas, and it is always a balancing act to prevent encounters and reactions like yours while maintaining a healthy relationship with the natural environment.

Super house!

We had a great time in Austin over Labor Day weekend. This is a cute house in a great location! Very clean and nicely maintained. We enjoyed it so much we stayed an extra night. The dog door off the screened porch was perfect for our two furry children to have easy access to the back yard. Thank you again for allowing them to come along.
We will definitely return in the fall/winter to take full advantage of the porch.

Wonderful place to stay in Austin!

My husband and I rented the house for SXSW 2012. It was perfect for us. We enjoyed having a home vs. a hotel room. We kept asking ourselves why we hadn't thought of this before?! The house is well kept, pleasantly decorated, and in a quiet neighborhood. We loved having our coffee in the morning on the screened in porch or decompressing on the porch after a day of music and fun.

A lovely little cottage in south Austin

Submitted: January 1, 2012 Stayed: December 2011
We were totally pleased with our rental experience. Our family has some allergy to cat and dog dander, so we were a little concerned about renting a 'pet friendly' accommodation. We needn't have worried. The house couldn't have been cleaner, with not a trace of previous pet presence. The hard wood floors and 50's period decor added a special touch. And though the house is just a block off the very busy thoroughfare of South Congress, the neighborhood was wonderfully quiet, ideal for walking to parks, restaurants, bars, shops, even the South Austin Culture Center.

Great place to stay in Austin

I loved staying here for my first trip to Austin! The house is charming and very comfortable. The location is perfect; I didn't bother to rent a car and never needed one all week.

It was fun to walk up and down South Congress and check out the shops and restaurants. I was there the week before Halloween...Austin takes Halloween very seriously! Lots of people shopping for (or wearing) costumes days before the 31st. Very fun! There are several parks within walking distance of the house, and downtown Austin is just a longer walk or short bus ride away.

The kitchen had all the appliances, utensils, and staples I needed, and the H.E.B. grocery was close by. It had a great selection, including lots of organic foods, which made eating in a good option.

The beds were very comfortable, with nice linens. The bathroom was stocked with towels and basic supplies in the medicine cabinet. It was great to have a washer and dryer and laundry soap on hand.

The house has wifi and a cool collection of Texas-themed DVDs and records. It was quiet at night, and all the windows had curtains and shades so I always felt like I had privacy. I especially liked the screened-in porch with the big overhead fan.

I found it a very relaxing and pleasant place to stay, and I'm definitely planning a return trip!
