This gorgeous villa includes dual master suites separated by the great room for ultimate privacy. Each room has its own private bath w/ showers that open to beautiful gardens. The great room has towering 12 foot walls, vaulted ceilings, & gracefully arched windows that provide a light & airy setting for your island experience. The kitchen has stone tile counter tops, new stainless steel appliances, & breakfast bar. There is an entertainment center & internet access to stay in touch w/ your loved ones. The views are breathtaking from every room w/ wonderful island breezes making air conditioning unnecessary. That is why each room has a sliding glass door that opens to a deck or garden. The bedroom downstairs, accessed by an outdoor staircase, has the same beautiful views & includes a kitchen, living area, & full bath. The location is ideal for exploring St John's most remote beaches & snorkeling areas of the east end & only a 15 minute drive to the world famous North Shore beaches.
Home is an adventurous 5 minute drive up the mountain off of Rte 107. It is approximately 1/2 hour to Cruz Bay
and minutes to Coral Bay.
My husband, my 7-year-old son and I spent a spectacular week in St. John at Sunrise Villa. We could not have asked for a more lovely getaway. The view is positively breathtaking. The nocturnal jungle sounds, the nightly storms and morning cloud shows, and even the drive up (and down!) the mountain road all made for a fun and beautiful family adventure. Coral Bay is charming and beautiful. The beaches were fabulous. The caretaker was quickly and consistently responsive to our queries. The owner called us mid week to check in and make a beach recommendation. That was a really lovely gesture. We would highly recommend this gorgeous home to those who are in for the challenge of the drive. It is more than worth-it! Another bonus: being so high in elevation, we sustained very few mosquito bites with the constant trade winds. We will return and we would love to stay at Sunrise Villa again when we do!
P.S. SAVE CORAL BAY!!
Our family truly enjoyed our stay at Sunrise. We mostly appreciated the spectacular views. That is probably what we'll miss the most and tried never to take them for granted since they were always there. The house was quite spacious and very comfortable. It had everything we needed. There was a well stocked kitchen allowing us to make an awsome breakfast each morning. And there were plenty of beach chairs and towels as well as an umbrella. Driving on Calabash Boom was a concern on the first trip but we quickly adapted and found it to be part of what made Sunrise so special. The spot was so convenient to our favorite beach (Salt Pond), favorite hike (Rams Head), and restaurants in Coral Bay...Sweet Plantains is always our #1 choice. Thanks Mike for making our vacation in St John with our 2 teenagers a reality.
My family (wife, 3 year old, and parents) and I stayed at Sunrise Villa. This was our fourth time in STJ. From the beginning it was a great experience - Mike (owner) and his property manager were very easy to contact and informative. The driveway was as expected - requiring 4WD. The house itself was spacious and more than adequate. The deck, spanning the length of the house, offered fantastic views. We enjoyed using the hot tub under the stars in the evening. The kitchen was quite modern with nice appliances. It was also a nice touch for Mike to call us during the week and see how things were going - got some nice recommendations from him.
The only minor issue we had was a slight leak (or condensation?) from the refrigerator requiring us to keep a towel on the floor. Also, the studio was not as nice as the primary house, although completely livable.
All things considered, I would highly recommend Sunrise Villa and consider staying there again myself. A great value offering priceless views and memories!
Recently spent 8 wonderful days at Sunrise Villa with my wife, 2 teens, and my father. The house was perfect for us, with two master suites separated by a living area on the main floor and the separate apartment downstairs for my Dad to get away to. The views from the deck are exactly as shown, and we spent a great deal of time outside just enjoying the view out over the East End of St John and several of the BVIs. The house is aptly named - be aware that by 7:15 each morning the sun is streaming through all the windows. Not an issue for me as I was always up to watch the sunrise, but if you like to sleep in you should be aware.
The house was very well equipped with everything we needed to explore the island - multiple coolers, many nice new beach chairs, towels, floats, etc. There are also several pairs of binoculars for use, some games, music, videos, etc.
Several reviews mentioned the road and I will admit it was probably the roughest I drove on the island, but is definitely not anything to be worried about as long as you have a 4WD vehicle for when it rains (which it did for one of our days). The worst part of the road in my opinion was the last 100 yards or so to the house as it was a very steep decline, but it was at least one of the paved parts of the road. By the end of the week I actually looked forward to driving up and down the mountain.
As for overall location, in my opinion it is one of the best parts of the island. It is about 25 - 30 minutes away from Cruz Bay in the quieter end of the island, about 10 minutes from Coral Bay. We went in to Cruz Bay once during our trip and that was enough for me. I greatly preferred the Coral Bay side and there are plenty of good dining choices within a few minutes. Shipwreck Landing was our favorite for this trip, and Cafe Concordia had the best views (along with the Tourist Trap).
Overall a FANTASTIC trip and I highly recommend Sunrise Villa.
We had a great 12 days at Sunrise. We had anticipated another couple joining us and there would have been lots of room-two large bedoom suites at either end of the great room, all with sliding glass doors leading to the deck. With just the two of us, it was a great get-away time. Hiked the NP ranger led Reef Bay trail, kayaked and snorkled with Eco Reef Tours, lots of good food at Miss Lucy's, Shipwreck, the Touist Trap and Skinny's and at our home away from home.
My husband, friends, and I had a wonderful stay at this beautiful home. The view is absolutely amazing; bedrooms are clean, large, and comfortable; and the kitchen and living space are nice and open. The open air showers are a great bonus too (glass door with a screen opens to the outside in both upstairs showers).
We were pleasantly surprised by a new, state-of-the-art hot tub. You'll enjoy watching the stars from here! The owner is very friendly and helpful. We hope to be back someday and are recommending this house to family and friends. Definitely take the advice of the 4-wheel drive and watch out for donkeys!
Other Activities: sailing, boating, sun bathing
