Beautiful, spacious well designed kitchen, luxurious bathrooms, Mexican colorful decor.
I came to San Miguel for the artistic and rich cultural environment. I fell in love with my Mexican neighborhood, the local church where everyone gathers, the tortilla shop around the corner.
We stayed a month in this spacious, immaculate, elegant house; the only problem was - we didn't want to go home! Everything was perfect - from the comfortable beds and luxurious bathrooms to the well-equipped kitchen to the sound of the water trickling in the stone fountain outside the dining room. All of the rooms are decorated with interesting art and lovely ceramics, complimented by the many colourful rugs. We spent hours relaxing and sunning on the rooftop terrace which is completely private and quiet. The neighbourhood seems to be developing quickly but is still charming in its simplicity. There are several good places to eat close by and our homeowner gave us plenty of information about where to go
for groceries and take-outs. San Miguel is a wonderful holiday destination for people who like beauty, history, art and theatre, good food and friendly, safe surroundings.
We stayed at Casa Carolina for a month and fell more in love the longer we stayed. It is on a sleepy quiet street with ver little traffic, the entire time we were there occasionally we heard dogs barking and lots of birds chattering but nothing else. We were only two blocks from Via Organica food market and cafe which became our neighborhood staple for great breakfast, lunch or dinner plus take out prepared and fresh food. We were lucky that the weather was warm but even on those mornings where it was just a bit of a nip in the air the decorative gas fireplaces in the bedrooms and living room warmed the space immediately with great ambiance. The roof top deck was an awesome place to see the sunset or just sunbathe. Both bedrooms are generous size with tons of closet space and comfortable beds. Our bedroom had an oversized tub with arm and head rest so you could read or just relax and that was heaven. We liked the an easy walk (12 minutes) to the Jardin instead of being in the middle of the city. This home has a fabulous kitchen if you like to cook. Overall our San Miguel experience was great and this house was perfect. We would rent this house again.
The house was spotlessly clean, and the layout is ideal. The large open first-floor area flows seamlessly from kitchen to dining area to living area. The owner's taste in art, ceramics, furniture and fabrics is impeccable, and the bedrooms are far enough apart for privacy, each with a large bathroom and tub. We stayed in the bedroom that is on the street, but the area is so quiet we were never disturbed by street noise. One night, we put cushions on the balcony outside the bedroom and slept (after a while...) under the stars!
This seems like a minor detail, but the stairs are very well laid out and spaced. I have been in houses in San Miguel with difficult staircases, and it can make a big difference. The rooftop terrace is lovely, and the sink made dining there much easier.
The neighborhood is great-- quiet, residential, with a good mix of Mexican families, resident ex-pats and gringo tourists. The shop around the corner has fresh-squeezed orange juice for breakfast, and there is a terrific organic market, a great bakery and a fish market within easy walking distance.
This is a good rental for 1-2 couples or a family. We will be back.
