Great Wass Island and the small rural town of Beals beckon visitors who wish to truly experience a hard working fishing community and the bold ocean frontage of the coast of Maine. Built in 1998, “Life on the Ledge”, an Oceanside home, provides a magical retreat from the busy lifestyles of the city. Nestled on a point at the outskirts of a peaceful cove overlooking adjacent islands, this retreat invites the hiker, bird watcher and avid nature enthusiast.
Awake to the sound of the lobster boats as the fishermen begin their day on the ocean. During the day relax on the deck, comb the pink granite shoreline for seaside treasures, explore the nature trails or travel to neighboring towns. If you enjoy lobster and other fine seafood, end the day sampling the day’s catch while watching the sun set over the islands as it glistens across the ocean. After the sunset, retire to the living room to sit in front of a crackling fire while enjoying your favorite book. If you are traveling by water, this home provides a dock and mooring for safe anchorage. Vacationers yearning for a quiet, peaceful vacation on the beautiful coast of Maine should consider “Life on the Ledge”.
My husband and I grew up in the communities of Beals and Jonesport. Our home was completed in 1998 and we lived there for several years. We built a second home in 2008. We are truly blessed to have the best of two worlds. A home on some of the most breathtaking oceanfront on the coast and a home in the middle of some of the most spectacular woodland in Downeast Maine.
This was our home for several years and we continue to enjoy vacationing there.
Sunsets, fishing, wildlife, hiking and just relaxing.
My family stayed at Life on the Ledge and we had an amazing time! The house is absolutely gorgeous beyond what the pics show online. Jim and April were so helpful, kind and patient with our questions and they went out of their way to make sure we had a great vacation. Both are quite knowledgeable on the history of the island and graciously gave us a boat tour of the area. We have rented through VRBO for quite sometime, and I can honestly say this was our best vacation ever! The location is breathtaking! I highly recommend visiting Maine, and definitely recommend Life on the Ledge. You can sit outside watch the lobster boats and enjoy the simplicity and beauty of your surroundings, hike the island or visit so many great places nearby. We visited Jasper Beach, Rogue Bluffs State Park, Bar Harbor, Ellsworth, Acadia National Park (amazing!,) and Lubec but the greatest highlight was returning to Life on the Ledge everyday.
Unbelievable location right on the water with gorgeous views. Watch eagles, lobster boats, and the rocky shore during the day, eat lobster on the deck at sunset, and star gaze at night. This house has it all. The pefect place to unwind, read, and observe awe inspiring nature. Jim and April couldn't be more accomodating and welcoming. They had a basket full of goodies from their farm for us upon our arrival and provided us with endless great recommendations during our stay. Not to be missed!
This is a beautiful home in a incredible location. We loved the island. The community and surrounding towns were welcoming and warm. The Carvers were hospitable and the week could not have been more enjoyable. This is a quiet, peacful location in Maine with scenery that is breath-taking. The home is very comfortable and the owners have anticipated all of your needs at a "home-away-from-home". We look forward to many wonderful summer vacations here! Thank you to Jim and April!!!!
What a wonderful experience! Thank you for making our stay in your beautiful home a treasured memory. We came as strangers and part as friends. The "Ledge" will remain in our hearts.
