Photos and Description of the Richmond vacation townhome rental
Townhome, 3 Bedrooms, 1.5 Baths, (Sleeps 6-7)

Come visit the capital of Virginia and stay in a charming, turn of the century Row House. The house, built in 1900, is very comfortable with a warm atmosphere, tall ceilings, oversized windows, and original trim and hardwood floors. The dining room seats six to eight and the kitchen island seats four. The bedrooms are lovely and spacious with a total of two queen sized beds, a twin bed, and a youth trundle bed. The full bathroom is newly renovated from floor to ceiling. The house is located in an established neighborhood, made up of long-time residents and college students. It is within walking distance to the VCU Campus and the Seigel Center. It is also just minutes to downtown Richmond, Shockoe Bottom, Carytown, the Museum District, Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Children's Museum, Maymont Park, Hollywood Cemetary, monuments, shopping, cafes, Starbucks, and restaurants. The very large grocery store is .4 miles away.

There is plenty for children...Children's Museum is literally 5 min. from the house and Maymont Park, with nature center, Aquarium, Zoo, Japanese Gardens and more, is 10 min. away.

Participate in the yearly 'UKrop's' run, where the starting and finishing points are walking distance from the house. Google Richmond Road Runners for other running events.

The historic Landmark Theatre is .5 miles from the house....check out it's show schedules!

Come enjoy the family fun and experience local art, music, and food at Carytown's annual Strawberry and Watermelon Festivals.

The house is situated very close to I-95, I-64 and I-295. Colonial Williamsburg is 40 minutes away and Charlottesville is 75 minutes away. kings Dominion 25 minutes away.

About Susan LeFrancois

I am a nurse, living and working in Northern Virginia and have raised 4 children and have 6 grandchildren. I have lived in Virginia all of my life. I became aquainted with Richmond when my daughter attended school there.

Susan LeFrancois purchased this townhome in 2003
Why Susan LeFrancois chose Richmond

I bought the house so that my daughter, who was attending VCU, could stay there with other students rather than live in the dorm. She loved living there, and so have the other girls who shared the house. It was very roomy and comfortable for them, plus convenient (walking distance) with all of their classes nearby. After she graduated, I continued to rent to students for a few more years. I thought about selling after the last group of 3 students left, but I had become very attached to the house and have enjoyed visiting Richmond. So, after staying in a VRBO vacation rental myself, I decided to make the Richmond row house a beautiful and homey vacation rental. To begin, I had the interior of the home painted and the upstairs bathroom completely renovated. I also added new furnishings fit for a vacation rental. I hope to continue to use the house and enjoy Richmond with my family during times when it is not occupied.

What makes this townhome unique

The house is so comfortable and roomy and no more than 15 minutes away from Richmond's popular spots. I enjoy going to Carytown where there are great restaurants, and the historic and beautiful Byrd movie theater, where admission is $2 and an organist plays before the movie on Saturday nights. There are wonderful parks and I especially like Maymont Park, which is sprawling and complete with Nature Center, Gardens, Zoo and Mansion. I also love to admire the landscaping and the historic architecture in Richmond and like the Southern friendliness and hospitality.

Lovely House, great owner

The Richmond house was just beautiful, and perfect for a group of about 6 people. The pictures do not do it justice. The house is very conveniently located just off the freeway, close to VCU, and within walking distance of a Kroger supermarket. There is a small children's park one block away, and restaurants within walking distance. The house is very nicely decorated with tasteful paintings. Most importantly, it is appointed with virtually everything you might need--bed linens and towels, TV
and CD player, washer and dryer, and all of the kitchen necessities. There are lots of nice details such as DVD and book collections that include selections for children, and a cabinet full of games. There is
also information about restaurants and tourist attractions. The house is very quiet at night and full of light during the day, with a lovely front porch and back patio. We had a wonderful stay!

The owner was exceptional to work with, I had flight trouble getting there and she was very accommodating and a pleasure to deal with.

Charmingly Beautiful Home with Friendly & Helpful Owner

Charmingly Beautiful Home with Friendly & Helpful Owner

My husband, sister and I had the pleasure of staying in this lovely home during a trip back to Virginia to assist my elderly mother with clearing out her house (readying it for sale). From the first contact I had with Susie, I found her to be such a warm and helpful person, making the process to rent out her home extremely easy. When I mentioned to her the reason for our visit, she offered to save up boxes for us to aid us in packing -- and when we arrived, there they were in the dining room - and they turned out to be a real life-saver once we started! We were touched by her thoughtfulness – true Southern hospitality!! We rent homes all over the country (including Hawaii) on VRBO, and I have to say that she's by far been the kindest, most gracious host that we’ve encountered.

This home is absolutely beautiful - and very reasonably priced. It is spacious, charming, clean, comfortable and conveniently located to VCU, historical sites, GREAT restaurants, cultural event locales, RIC Airport and local highways (64 and 95), making day trips to Williamsburg, Charlottesville, or VA Beach totally doable. Susie even has a great stock of brochures and maps to aid her visitors in getting out and exploring. We enjoyed taking a morning walk each day up the street to the Kroger Supermarket to grab breakfast or snack items (amazingly large supermarket with huge selection!). We tried several local eateries (we highly recommend Black Sheep for lunch which is a short walk from the house). This area has really developed well since I was last there in 1997 and it’s wonderful to see all of the thriving, independent businesses. When we would return in the evenings, we would come back to the quiet comfort of this home – we never heard one peep from neighbors and we slept extremely well each night!

We felt that the 'rules of the house' were extremely reasonable and very low-key (again, we are seasoned VRBO renters, and we've seen it all). Susie provides everything you need to have a comfortable stay. Anyone using basic courtesy and common sense would have no issues, and would without a doubt greatly enjoy their stay in this fantastic home!! We are already planning a return trip in a year with our children (7 & 9). Picturing them in this lovely and safe home and neighborhood was a large factor in making the decision to return to Richmond for our next summer vacation! We are looking very forward to returning and having the pleasure of renting from Susie again!!

Owner's Response: Thank you for the nice review! I'm glad the house worked out well for you, and that you were able to assist your Mother while you were in Richmond, and have some good family time as well. I like hearing about the nice places to eat too.....thank you for sharing. Will have to try the Black Sheep!
Best wishes to you and your family and I look forward to sharing the house with you again,
Susie

Great house but unfortunate check out

  • 1 of 5
  • Submitted: May 7, 2013

My family stayed at this house for five nights and we could not have asked for a better house and visit. We had so much fun. We had no issues; the house is perfectly situated and appointed. Parking is a minor challenge but with two parking passes, it ended up being just fine. Our family was easily able to visit us at the house rather than us spending our days running around.

Upon check out, my family was accused of an extensive and very long list of items that we just did not do. I tried to explain and speak to the accusations but simply could not get a word in. We were accused of lighting a candle for example ? but we did not do that and I can swear to that on my life. We had two children aged 4 that played with toys in the living room. Lighting candles with people watching tv and playing cards, and kids playing with toys, was the furthest thought.

We had family over and used alot of toilet paper. The owner was really upset about that. But I thought that owners supplied toilet paper and replenishing toilet paper would be a business expense?
I certainly didn't complain about having to buy shampoo. I even bought paper plates and a ton of red "solo" cups so we wouldn't use the dishes.

I started a load of dishes at 4AM on the day of departure about 10 minutes before literally walking out the front door but instead of asking me questions and conversating with me, I was accused of leaving dirty dishes in the dishwasher - point blank. I became exhausted and wore out at the accusations and trying to answer them. If the owner wanted all of my security deposit, she could have had it.

We forgot some hotdogs. After we flew back to Seattle, my niece who lives in Richmond, stopped by the house to pick them up from the owner as had been agreed to. However, when she got there, they were just left sitting on the porch?. I was embarrassed and felt bad for my 21-year old niece.

This house is really nice but I really do recommend taking countless before and after photos and make sure you check in with the neighbors since they apparently take notes on who visits the home.

My family has used VRBO twice before and have never encountered this type of situation. We respect owners as we are owners who rent out property ourselves. We respect the process.
This checkout was just disheartening.

Owner's Response: I only held $50 of $250 deposit because there was damage done to the finish on the mantel. I had to repaint it twice. Large amounts of trash was not removed. Dirty dishes were left in the dishwasher. Couch was soiled with food and drink in several places. I don't expect occupants to clean before they leave, but I have a check out list and expect trash to be removed, dishwasher started. A very large stock of toilet paper and paper towels were gone. I had 2 calls from neighbors who asked me "how many people are supposed to be at your house?" It is not a party house. I had spent 2 days at the house before the occupants arrived, and was the first in the house when they departed, and blame was put on "other occupants". This is only the 2nd time in 4 years that I held a small portion of a deposit. I think I was very fair.

We had a great stay. There were 4 of us and we were so comfortable the whole time and the location was great as well as we visited some sites in Richmond, but also went to Williamsburg and Monticello. Susan thought of everything! It was so relaxing to come back and kick off our shoes and read a book or watch a video. Just like coming home after a long day of sightseeing. Would definitely recommend this property to anyone needing to stay in the area!

I can't think of any nicer place to stay. We toured Williamsburg, Historic Jamestown, Yorktown, Civil War sites, and Monticello and this location was ideal. We felt like guests, not just tourists. Every need was anticipated. We are a family of 6, with young adults, and everyone had the comfort, TV/wifi and privacy they needed. The house even has accomodations for babies and small children and that we found particularly charming. Susie answered all questions and concerns. We highly recommend it and hope to return.
