Photos and Description of the Torch Lake vacation house rental
House, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1.5 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)

Relax, take in the sunrise and the waking birds on our awesome, tree level wrap around porch. The yard is big enough to play games such as Frisbee or practice your chipping. Our neighbors are friendly and welcoming. We hope you enjoy your stay at our home away from home as much as we do. If you choose to stay during the summer we will probably be somewhere close on our boat on one of the lakes in the chain or a marina on Grand Traverse Bay.

Bright and cheery cottage built into the hill with view of beautiful south end of Torch Lake year round. Our family cottage, we visit it throughout the year. We are sure your family will find it affordable, convenient and close to everything you could ever want to do up north during any season. It is decorated in bright colors, has a Pergo floor in common area. Is exudes 'welcome' and 'relax'.

You may view all of our pictures via Amy's Picasa Web album by scrolling down to the 'Links to more information': section of this page.

In the past we have successfully rented to such groups as a family of 6, a group of 4 golfing buddies, a group of 4 women taking a break from the guys to shop and wine tour. A group of women on a relaxing Yoga retreat. A woman and her two adult daughters. A couple of newlyweds. A group of 6 adults (3 couples) who were sending their children to camp Hayo-Went-Ha. A pair of couple friends who boated and played on Torch Lake for their first time. If you are a similar group, we welcome you.

This is not a good place to have a loud party. We intend to rent to families or couples and are especially well suited for such groups. We avoid renting to large groups of young adults. If you are a group of hard charging sand bar stallions then our place is not a very good match for your group.

We have no hangups about race, religion or sexual orientation so please feel safe and free to contact us with your concerns. We want the 'best' renters so we try to offer the 'best' to you.

About John Amos

Amy and I live in the Grand Rapids area. Amy is an elementary music teacher and I am a retired tool and die engineer. We are also entertainers for weddings, private parties and corporate events. The name of our group is The Life of the Party. Amy picked this picture because she looks great, I was playing it up and look ridiculous(oh well).

John Amos purchased this house in 2002
Why John Amos chose Torch Lake

When we got married we sold Amy's house and decided to purchase a cottage. This one was the first one we looked at in our price range. After seeing it, all others paled in comparison. It is the first property we owned together and is very special to us. It is everything we could ever want in a cottage and thus we would like to share it and the beautiful area with others.

What makes this house unique

Very close to everything one could ever want to do up north and yet affordable. It is private, but not too private. Close to all the action, but not too close. Easy to keep up and yet it has a yard and is in a neighborhood that used to be an apple orchard.

Accommodation and Amenities for this vacation house rental in Torch Lake, Michigan

Property Type:
  • house

Meals:
  • Guests provide their own meals

Location Type:
  • Lake View ...
We are walking distance (3/8 of a mile) to very nice, DNR swim areas.
  • Mountain View ...
We like to call it the mountain view but it is by no means a real mountain view, this is the lower peninsula of Michigan after all. Beyond our view of the Lake, the elevation rises a few hundred feet of wooded area. It is off in the distance and to us it resembles a mountain view. It is very nice.
  • Water View ...
You can see parts of Torch Lake from our cottage.

General:
  • Linens Provided ...
We have bed linens and towels available, but would prefer if you brought your own. Our septic system will be much happier for years to come if we reduce the number of loads of laundry which we run through it.
  • Clothes Dryer
  • Parking for RV/Boat/Trailer
  • Mobile Phone ...
Most cell phone services work well from our cottage. We have Verizon service and it works very well. We used to have Sprint and it worked but to a lesser extent.
  • Parking Off Street
  • Wood Stove ...
So far we have restricted our cottage rentals to the seasons which do not require using the wood stove.
  • Wireless Internet ...
    We have WiFi available.
  • Broadband Access ...
We have broadband internet available for plug in connections.
  • Garage
  • Air Conditioning ...
I just added air conditioning in the Spring of 2011. We thought it appropriate to have this available for our renters. We love the open air during the evenings but some afternoons can get pretty hot so now we offer a cool retreat if needed.
  • Washing Machine
  • Internet

Kitchen:
  • Cooking Utensils
  • Microwave
  • Kitchen
  • Dishwasher
  • Refrigerator ...
Please feel free to use our condiments if you are comfortable with that.

  • Bathroom 1 -

Bedrooms:
  • 2 Bedrooms, Sleeps 8
  • Queen size Beds (1), Sleep Sofa or Futons (1) Queen Sized Sofa sleeper. Great for kids, not so much so for adults. I slept on it in March at is was not comfortable for me. My teenager thinks it is great. , Bunk Beds (2) Both Bunks Feature Full Size Futon on Lower Bed, Twin on Top. Both are in one room.

We have a number of family friendly DVD's in case of a lazy rainy day or relaxed evening. Netflix plus other order up movie providers available on your own account.

Outside:
  • Outdoor Grill
  • Balcony ...
The deck is 12 feet off the ground in the front of the cottage.
  • Deck / Patio ...
Huge wrap around wood deck with furniture and sun umbrellas. I suggest wearing shoes, however as wood can give splinters. A note to teenagers: Definitely do not slide across the deck in your socks, ouch..

Suitability:
  • wheelchair inaccessible
  • non smoking only ...
Please do not smoke in our cottage.
  • pets considered ...
Please E-Mail with Information About Your Pet. We allow pets with some simple restrictions like not in the bed or on the furniture.
  • children welcome ...
We prefer to rent to families or couple / friends. We like to limit our renters to 4 adults. Ideally a family with up to 6 kids could comfortable stay at our cottage. Eight kids would be possible but who would want to? We have five children between us (adults now) and have been comfortable many times with them all there. Consider that the kids will be spending time with their parents, it is by no means a children's adventure land. The area is more suited to adult activities.
  • Minimum Age Limit for Renters ...
Our goal is to rent to responsible, mature adults. Maturity and the ability to handle responsibility is not necessarily age related. As a general guideline, you must be 25 years of age or able to show that you are a responsible mature adult.

We have well water and I would put it up against any bottled water for taste, We are in a great location for 'anything' up north, We are in a quiet neighborhood which is great for sleeping, We have bird feeders and attract some very nice varieties such as Baltimore Orioles Indigo Buntings Hummingbirds Purple Finches and many most of the more popular birds as well,

We had a very good time in this lovely and bright house. It was very well updated and clean. The owners had a lot of items there so we didn't have to purchase, such as dish soap, trash bags, etc... The view from the deck was very nice and watching all the birds come to the bird feeders was awesome.. And we were able to bring our dog so that was a major plus for us...

John and Amy were great! Cottage is adorable, clean, and cozy. Great layout. Dogs loved lounging in the sun on the big porch, and I loved cooking on the island while watching TV. Good central location as well. Close to Traverse city, and Elk Rapids. Thanks for a great stay!

We absolutely loved our stay at this cottage! John & Amy are very friendly, genuinely nice people and easy to rent from. They made the whole process (as this was our 1st time renting) simple! The cottage was perfect for us...it had everything we needed and the location was nice. It's peaceful at the cottage which made it easy to relax, but there is a lot of activity close by ~ boat rentals, great restaurants, and wineries...just to name a few. We've decided to try and make this an annual trip ~ loved it!!
