Overview

Vinalhaven House Rental Photos and Description

House, 1 Bedroom + Loft, 1 Bathroom plus outdoor hot shower (Sleeps 4-5)

This comfortable home is an ideal place for a summer break. Kitchen is well-equipped with a large counter for breakfast, preparing a meal, or just making cookies. A wood stove keeps the whole house toasty on a cool night but is not needed most of the time.

The living area has two sofas for reading or enjoying the view which changes every hour with the tide's ebb and flow, And with boats going by much of the day. There is a dining table for six. A large picture window and sliding door mean you can see the water from almost everywhere downstairs.

The bathroom has a shower, but most people enjoy our new private outdoor shower even more.

The downstairs bedroom has a queen bed and nice views of the water and islands west of the house. The loft is tall enough for adults to walk around. It sleeps 3, and skylights let you see stars and the moon at night if you leave the shades open.

The village of Vinalhaven is 15 minutes away by car. On the way, stop for a dip in one of the island's quarries and then enjoy a crabmeat roll 'downstreet'.

Linens and towels are included. Cell service is spotty on much of the island but the area immediately around our house has cell reception.

About Bern Terry or Agnes Terry

We built this house with our father( on the photo ) when we were in College. We've been coming to Vinalhaven for 50 years and love the quiet and peaceful feeling we get as soon as we arrive. The island is a wonderful antidote for the fast-pace of life during the rest of the year. Every year, we add a new feature or amenity to the house, but it is still a simple warm and welcoming place,. It's nice for one or two people or for a family or a group of 3-5 friends. If interested, feel free to email or call, and we'll tell you more.

Bern Terry or Agnes Terry purchased this house in 1978

Why Bern Terry or Agnes Terry chose Vinalhaven

Vinalhaven is a uniquely peaceful place. Great for people who want to experience the beauty of the outdoors, or for people who want to get away from it all and read or just watch the tide come and go. The best way to get a feel for the island's charm is to visit, and the second best is to speak to someone who has been there.

What makes this house unique

This house is easy to live in. It is a simple and efficient so you can spend more time on your vacation than on housekeeping.

But the sight of the Camden hills behind North Haven Island across the water is the most hypnotizing sight at every hours of the day .A lovely way to retreat from the high pressures of Life .Bring your binoculars and watch ospreys bald eagle and birds on the protected islands across your view .

an amazing view from a peaceful setting

  • 5 of 5

My husband, two children, family friend and I stayed at this wonderful cabin in the woods overlooking the thoroughfare. The fanfare of sailboats, lobster boats and yachts was a pleasure to watch from the cabin everyday. We brought our bikes with us and went for a few rides around the area and it was nice but it is too far to ride into town (8 miles) or to ride to the nearest quarry to swim. There are a few preservations right near the cabin and the trails are as beautiful to hike as they are easy to complete. We brought our Sunfish with us and the Terry's let us keep the boat tied up to to the deep water dock which is a few feet from the cabin. The sailing in the thoroughfare is well protected and fun, we thoroughly enjoyed it! All cooking amenities for making any meal are at your disposal in the kitchen and you can look outside and watch the boats go by while you are preparing the meal. The shower outside is awesome! I loved showering under the blue sky and drying in the sun. My teenagers were very happy with the internet service reception, it was strong and always working. Even our cell phone reception was good at the cabin, something that was not true for the rest of the island, we were able to make calls while other people on the island complained of poor/no service. The clothes washer and dryer attached to the cabin worked great. The sunsets from the cabin over the Camden hills were the best I have seen, so don't forget to bring the camera. The picture window in the master bedroom was almost like being outside and sleeping in the stars. Oh, the stargazing is magnificent. We really enjoyed our stay here and were very happy with the place, I would highly recommend your stay here for a respite from the busy world around us, it's very peaceful and serenity comes naturally while you are sipping on your morning coffee overlooking the glass reflections in the calm water and watching the gradual dissipation of the morning fog. I can't say enough about the view, you have to see it for yourself.

We really loved this place!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed here for a week in August 2012 and really loved it. Being on the Fox Island Thorofare is interesting; you see all kinds of boat traffic. The cabin was cozy and the new outdoor shower was refreshing. The bedroom has two picture windows overlooking the water and it was pleasant at night to sleep with the windows open and listen to the water lapping up on the rocks below. The kitchen was well equipped and had everything we needed to cook. There was a nice gas grill on the deck. It's about eight miles into town and we wound up driving almost 150 miles for the week so make sure you have a full gas tank when you arrive.

The owners, Agnes and Arthur, are delightful people and went out of their way to make sure that we were comfortable. They were always available if we needed anything but never bothered us. It rained one day so we stayed inside, read books, played Scrabble and had a very relaxing day. I would highly recommend this to someone who is looking for a nice retreat from the hectic mainland lifestyles.

Wonderful, well-equipped cottage

  • 5 of 5

We (four people) stayed here for one week--and were completely taken with the place. The cottage is incredibly charming and well-equipped. It is quiet and serene, with beautiful views of the water from the deck. Well-placed windows throughout the cottage, allow for unobstructed views of lush greenery and nature. It's a perfect space for a family, or a group of friends. We had a lovely time--and were so lucky to have been able to spend time here!
