About The Owner

My husband was born and raised in Carmel, we were married in Carmel Valley 30 years ago and have been going to either the village or Carmel often in those 30 years. This area is home and we plan to retire there someday. Currently we live in the San Francisco Bay area. Our country home has become our retreat, a place to unwind and recharge .We love to get out of the city and into the sunshine and slower pace of the country. We never grow tired of looking out at the vineyard filled valley from our deck or driving into Carmel for a sunset walk on the amazing white sand beach.

The Owner purchased this house in 2001

Why The Owner chose Carmel Valley

We found this property by chance on a business trip to Carmel. Once the realtor opened the gate to the property and we saw the beautiful meadow filled with lupine, poppies and ancient oak trees we knew we were home.

What makes this house unique

We love the quiet. You will notice when you first get out of the car the only sound you hear is the crickets and the frogs. We love the views of the valley, watching the finger of fog moving in and out of the valley below in the early morning or evening. We love eating dinner out on our deck in the soft candlelight on a warm night. We love to drive into Carmel to walk on the beach at sunset. There are so many things to do but often we just stay home with a pile of books and sit on the deck reading and relaxing.

Relaxing Hideaway

  • 5 of 5

We can't wait to return to this beautiful cottage and it's luscious grounds. On our arrival day, we trekked up the very windy road (which only took us 11 minutes) and were happy to discover the property had it's own private gate. The instructions we received were very detailed and most helpful. The wood stove was ready to light upon our arrival and we enjoyed the cozy warmth of the fire throughout our trip. My husband's favorite place was in the hot tub overlooking the amazing view. The beds were all very comfortable. At night we enjoyed making smores at the outside fire pit. We took a relaxing walk to the large meadow and around the property. It was helpful to have the extra refrigerator in the garage for all the food we brought. We also liked they had a composite bin in the garden. There were plenty of towels, including pool towels. We all had a wonderful time, including my 23 month old grandson. The trundle bed in the downstairs bedroom was prefect for him since we could keep the bottom part low to the ground. The only downside (if you could call it that) was that we really couldn't get internet access and the cell reception was spotty even with AT&T service. Fortunately, there was a landline to communicate with the outside world. I really can't say enough about this wonderful property, just that I hope we can visit again very soon! Thank you!!

Perfect Retreat

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect place to escape reality and return to nature. No one around for miles and everything you need on site, lovely pool area, great BBQ facilities. The grounds were amazing to wander around in. Such a cute little town to grab a bite to eat in only a few miles away. I would definitely stay here again!

Great house in a beautiful spot.

  • 5 of 5

This house made for a perfect location for a get-together among old friends and their new babies. The January temps were low but the wood stove and supplemental heaters provided by the owner kept us plenty warm. And it's hard to overstate just how great the view was!

Perfect Fit!

  • 5 of 5

We very much enjoyed staying at this wonderful home.

Two families with three kids between us had plenty of room to relax.

The hot tub was a treat and the fire-pit was great fun with smores.

The house is rather isolated, which was perfect for us - amazing night skies and near silence, except for animals. Also, the family of Deer that greeted us every morning was a real treat. Highly recommended.

Windiest Road ever!

  • 4 of 5

We really loved the place It was so beautiful. The back yard was spectacular!!! Our daughter was getting married at Holman Ranch so we had to go back and forth to the venue on the windiest road ever!!!! I would suggest this place if you were going to stay there at the house and not have to go back and forth somewhere else,

to far and windy

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to review our Carmel Cottage. The road to our house is not that far from the village about 8 miles but is indeed windy. It is about 15-20 minutes driving time to the village but you need to pay attention, especially when not used to the the road. Most of our guests are looking for privacy and a quiet retreat. Though we do have quite a few wedding guests who stay in our home but they typically just need to get to the wedding venue for the day or the rehearsal dinner. I am researching drivers who can pick up and drop off our guests for a reasonable cost and will include them in our cottage information packet. I think it is worth noting that folks needing to drive back and forth should consider something closer the venue. Thank you again for your comments and I hope to have back in the future, this time to stay and enjoy the beautiful views and peaceful setting Happy Holidays, Madalene
