Roy was born and raised on Spanish Wells and Linda was born in a settlement not too far away named current. We both love to meet new folks and entertain. Roy sings and plays the guitar when he is not working as a commercial lobster fisherman and Linda takes care of the home when she is not preparing fabulous meals for their guests
Roy and Linda have always lived next to this property and this is where they started their married life together. The previous owner was a sweet lady named Mrs Marjorie. This is where it gets its name. After Mrs Marjorie passed it seemed only natural to keep the place in the family.
We consider all of our guest as our family. Since the property is close to our primary house, it makes it convenient to take care of our guests.
My husband and I just returned from the happiest, most relaxing vacation we have ever taken. We stayed at Aunt Marjorie’s Cottage on the small island of Spanish Wells, in the Bahamas. I had visited the island back in the 1980’s, and have always wanted to return. The water is crystalline blue, the beaches surround the island in white, powdery sand, the little conch cottages are welcoming in bright shades of pink, yellow, blue, and green, and the residents are the friendliest people you can imagine. Other than a few more streets, houses, and a real grocery store, nothing has really changed.
Aunt Marjorie’s Cottage is wonderful. It is built in the old conch style, with cozy rooms that wrap you in comfort. You can open the windows and smell the sea air, using the air conditioning only when absolutely necessary. Everything is available to meet your needs, including Wifi and a toll-free phone to the U.S. While we swore that we were going “off the grid,” it was reassuring to know that we could be in contact with our family, when necessary. The house has a lovely yard and garden, with chairs for relaxing and a grill to use. We sat every day and watched doves, hummingbirds, and the neighborhood cats come to visit. A very short walk north takes you to one of the gorgeous sand beaches on the island, on which you only occasionally meet others. An even shorter walk to the south takes you to Budda’s Snack Shack, a casual, outdoor bar and grill with excellent food and a very laid-back atmosphere. Budda also has a liquor store on the premises, if you are interested. Truthfully, we ate there every night of our stay, since it was less expensive than buying groceries!
While the whole vacation was an amazing experience for the senses, it would not have been the same, had we not met Roy and Linda, the owners of Aunt Marjorie’s Cottage. When we arrived, Roy met us at the town dock with our “buggy,” a big smile on his face, and a huge hug! He is vibrant, entertaining, and as we came to find, both generous, and kind. From there, we followed him to the cottage, only to find Linda waiting for us on the front steps. She had prepared a delicious lunch of baked lobster, twice-baked potatoes, broccoli, and homemade cake, ready for us to eat at the dining room table. Linda, too, is extremely kind and generous and welcomed us as if we were family. Indeed, we were treated as family during our entire stay. When Roy made his delicious conch
My husband and I spent 2 weeks here in October and it was, hands down, the best vacation we have ever taken. The memories we made there, I will treasure always. Aunt Marjorie's cottage was very clean, very homey and you just melt into it. Fully stocked kitchen, comfortable beds and well taken care of. Roy and Linda were our hosts and you could not ask for any better. Linda even had dinner for us when we arrived and it was wonderful. We enjoyed eating at the Shipyard, Budda's, and the Gap. It is also worth a trip to Eleuthra to see Preachers cave and the beach there. We enjoyed the Peoples Church and the wonderful people who opened their arms and homes to us. How refreshing not to have to lock your doors. This island is a hidden gem and I fell in love with the beautiful people, the beautiful food, and beautiful scenery. Usually after a week on vacation, we're ready for our own beds- this one was different. The closer our departure date crept up on us, the dread set in.When it was time to go, I thought my husband was going to have to tie a rope around my waist to get me in that water taxi. When we did leave, unexpected emotions overcame me and I cried-as I said I left some of my heart there. Since returning home, I dreamed several times that we were still there. I cannot say the word Spanish Wells without a big ole smile on my face. And after I write this review I'm booking 2 more weeks in about 6 months! That says it all! A heartfelt thank you to Roy and Linda for all the hospitality and Ron and I cannot get back there soon enough. Dreaming of it til we get back-----Angie

Thank you to Roy and Linda for the best vacation of my life!
We just returned from one of the best vacations we have ever had. Aunt Marjorie's cottage was wonderful and the perfect retreat for us during our stay in Spanish Wells. The house and property were well cared for and really gave us a feel of the island's charm. It is centrally located, near restaurants and shops, and an easy walk to a beautiful beach. We are especially grateful to our hosts, Roy and Linda, who made our trip memorable. Not only did they have dinner waiting for us upon our arrival, but they continued to be generous with their time and advice. We learned a lot from them about the island, its people, and terrific food.
It is an amazing place, and we look forward to returning soon.
Let me say that this was a wonderful rental for us. My wife, our 20 year old daughter and myself stayed at the cottage for 5 days starting on Christmas day. The host Roy and Linda couldn't have been more helpful. Thanks to Linda for the great dinner she had prepared for us on arrival. The island was fun to explore and getting around on a golf cart or bikes was a blast. Spanish Wells is a small island but there is a lot to see and do. We spent time hitting the beach and also doing some fishing. There are these great "shallows" you can walk out on (and find shells or watch fish)during low tide. Its a very nice place just to hang out. We also took the water taxi over to Eluethera Island one day. On Eluethera we rented a car and and spent a great day just exploring. Roy and Linda provided us with any information or help we needed. The cottage itself was extremely nice. Very clean and in extremely great shape. One small piece of advice is if you rent a car on Eluethera arrange it a little ahead of time because there is a limited supply of cars there. Also there are stores on Spanish Wells were you can get supplies but they can have limited hours. You may want to buy some supplies on arrival. All in all it was a wonderful stay. Thanks from Chuck, Nancy and Laura
My husband and I stayed at Roy and Linda's vacation rental and were joined by our son and his girlfriend for part of the time. This turned into a very special vacation as we got to experience many things Bahamian: meals of local fish specialties, the traditional island architecture, snorkeling in the brilliant blue waters right off the coast, discussing the local crawfish industry, understanding their passion for religion, and finally their trust and commitment to family, friendship, and honesty. No one locks their doors and keys are left in cars....that says it all. Roy and Linda shared their lives and beliefs with us in true Bahamian style. They were exceptional hosts.
The vacation rental is exactly as described and spotless. The interior decorating is spot on! There are essentially two bedroom areas with bathrooms so good for two couples or a family. The mattress in the master bedroom is wonderful! The kitchen is fully equipped and grocery stores are nearby. We loved eating in the patio areas.
All travel arrangements went smoothly and Roy was readily available with suggestions and offering to make arrangements. The whole experience and accommodation was fantastic in all respects, right down to the golf cart. We will be back.
I would definitely recommend this rental to friends and family.
Spanish Wells is a unique, quaint fishing village with a diverse history ranging from early pioneers looking for freedom to pirates and most recently hard working fisherman who love the sea. The only way to the Island is by water taxi and the primary mode of transportation around the Island is by Golf Cart. If one could describe the ideal setting for folks looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of life and yet experience worry free living it would be Spanish Wells. The Island offers great people, great food and fantastic fishing and diving opportunities. There is no better location on the planet for kids and adults to experience the beach and water without the crowds.
