The clear blue waters of the Smith River have garnered national attention, and its designation of both Wild and Scenic and a National Recreation Area just hint at the unmitigated beauty flowing through the backyard of this home. A log swing and outdoor barbecue in the back yard overlooks the river.
Fish from the shore, kayak along the river, hike through the nearby redwood groves, view the local elk and deer, play on the beach and in the ocean, tour the local lighthouse, see the nearby lily fields, and much more. Just a few miles to the north, you can shop and enjoy the artsy flavor of Brookings, Oregon. Just a few miles south is the equally entertaining Crescent City, California. Both have wonderful restaurants, shopping, sightseeing, fishing, whale-watching, sea-lion gazing, gorgeous sunsets over the ocean, and plenty of entertainment opportunities for all ages.
The Smith River is one of the most prolific fishing rivers for Salmon and Steelhead in the Pacific northwest. Many who have stayed here have returned year after year to enjoy all that this home has to offer.
We look forward to having you as our next guest!

We live in Smith River, not far from The Sleepy Salmon Lodge. We moved here in 2004 and feel that we have found 'paradise'. We love the friendly community, mostly mild temperatures, natural beauty of the area, and the rivers and ocean that this area has to offer. Tony is retired, and Robin still sells real estate both in California and Oregon. Our only 'children' living at home right now are our pampered pooch and beautiful cat (both rescues!). We have traveled extensively worldwide including many vacation rentals and bed and breakfast accommodations. This has enhanced our abilities to anticipate the needs and concerns of travelers (our guests). We look forward to meeting all of our guests and helping to make your stay in this area a pleasant and memorable one.
The Owner purchased this cabin in 2009
We chose to purchase a vacation rental in Smith River, California because, as our home town, we know that this is a beautiful place to visit while traveling up the coast or as a one-stop vacation spot! Available activities are plentiful here and the weather is perfect almost year-round.
This unique custom-built log cabin style home is rustic luxury. Even the furniture is all custom ordered log style perfectly accenting the decor of the home. Your own private steps lead down to the riverfront where a small 'lagoon' awaits. View the wildlife from the home and large porch / balcony / decks and fish at one of the best fishing spots on the Smith River right in front of your own back door!
What a wonderful lover's retreat for Valentine's Day. We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend!
Modern 'cabin' home on Smith River, lovely back yard with easy river access. Well stocked kitchen, and amenities included. Easy access to great hikes. Everything was sparkling clean, and the owners were incredibly helpful. The area does not have great restaurant options, but we ate at home and were very happy with that.
My husband and I stayed here over the Christmas holiday. When we pulled up to the cabin we were not disappointed. It was spacious, clean, had a very modern cabin feeling and overlooked the beautiful Smith River. The owners were very welcoming and had added some holiday accents to the house to give it a warm, cozy, holiday feel. The house is within easy driving distance of restaurants and stores (there's a Fred Meyer right across the border- less than 15 minutes), but feels private and quiet, like a retreat. You can fish right out the back door (steelhead and salmon are the common Smith River catches), and the fireplace keeps the indoors nice and cozy. There is internet access, but when we stayed it wasn't wireless.
We had everything we needed to stay for the week: fully stocked kitchen appliances and tableware, laundry facilities, fireplace wood, and the house was clean and consistent with the description on the website. The owners made themselves available to us for questions, but allowed us our privacy as the same time. We can be hermits at times, so we appreciated the peace and quiet, while feeling comfortable reaching out to them if we needed anything. We would happily stay here again in the future and would recommend it to a friend/family member.
We had Christmas Eve dinner at the Nautical Inn, which was delicious and amiable. It's right on the water so we recommend a reservation before sunset so you can see the coastline shift to sunset shift to night as you dine. The cocktails were good and the food was delicious. There aren't many restaurants of this caliber in the area and if you want a romantic evening out we recommend it as your choice.
A beautiful setting for our Easter holiday. The cabin is set up so completely. You thought of everything. We definitely will be back.
Our stay in this lovely cabin on the river made our trip a memorable one! Thanks!
