Overview

North Captiva Island House Rental Photos and Description

House, 4 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 10)

This beautiful home is extremely close to the ocean and a Florida sugar sand beach which is often uninhabited except by wading birds, ghost crabs, osprey and snook. This property features direct beach access so you can walk right onto the beach and into the Gulf of Mexico located about 100 steps from our front door. North Captiva Island features some of the most secluded beaches in the continental United States. Many times of the year, your family may be the only ones on the beach.

North Captiva Island is only accessible by water taxi and there are no cars on the island. Transportation on the island is by golf cart which is provided with your rental, walking or bicycle. There are no paved roads, only sandy paths winding through tropical vegetation. It is truly a unique setting. Palm trees, gumbo limbo trees and beautiful flowers are everywhere.

Our favorite activities are fishing, shelling, swimming and exploring the beach and state land. There are a large number of wading birds, gopher tortoises, raccoons, brown pelicans, osprey, egrets, cormorants, bald eagles, ibis and sanderlings. There are two very nice swimming pools maintained by our island club a short walk or golf cart drive from our house. Kayaks and bicycles are also available at no charge through the island club. Tarpon, sea trout, red fish, snook, and snapper may be caught from the shore. Shelling is a daily activity on the island. North Captiva is often described as the shelling capital of North America.

Our house, Perfect Placement, is beautifully appointed and completely remodeled after hurricane Charlie. The kitchen is large and modern with Corian counters, new appliances and gulf views. The house is large enough that 2 families of four can stay comfortably. There are 2 bedrooms on the first floor: a master bedroom with a gulf view and a guest bedroom with a double bed. There are 2 full baths on the first floor. On the second floor there is a large bedroom with a private porch and an excellent gulf view which could serve as a second master bedroom. There is also a bunk bed room with 2 sets of bunk beds providing sleeping for 4. Both bedrooms share a hall bath.

Because the house is on the west shore of North Captiva we are often witness to stunning sunsets which can be observed from your bedroom or the back deck. Don't forget your camera to help capture some memories. If you are lucky you may see Dolphin playing in the surf, Tarpon showing past the first breakers and the legendary stoop of the brown pelican fishing. This has got to be one of the prettiest and most unusual places you will ever see.

Why Alicia Kahler chose North Captiva Island

We love the island, the trees, flowers and the uncrowded beaches. We have had our best vacations here walking the beach, playing games, praying, reading and enjoying the wildlife.

What makes this house unique

This home is a 15 second walk to the beach from our front yard. We have one of the few homes on the island which has direct beach access. Driving around the island in the golf cart observing island flora and fauna is unique to this place. We are members of the North Captiva Island Club and you will have access to all the amenities of the Club including 2 large swimming pools and a hot tub when you stay in our home. The beaches are the least crowded we have ever been on. The nighttime stars are spectacular and we have watched sea turtles digging a nest on the side of our house.

Really is a perfect placement

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stayed at Perfect Placement the first week of March. There were 7 of us (including a 5yo and a 6 month old). There was plenty of space. Everything was clean. The location of the house is absolutely perfect. Steps from the beach. Our favorite spot was the screened in porch. We ate out there most meals. The sunsets were perfect!

We loved the feel of the island life. Slow pace. We really enjoyed access to North Captiva Island Club. We went to the pool most days. We played tennis one day. Rented bikes (free) one day and Kayaks another day. We rented a boat one day and really enjoyed exploring nearby islands. We only ate out twice. Once at the pool bar for lunch. And then on our last night we ate at Barnacles. It seemed a little pricey but since we just did it once, it wasn't too bad.

I had read a review that someone said they wish they had packed more food and less clothes. Even after reading that I still felt the same way. I wore 1/4 of the clothes I brought- I pretty much lived in my swimsuit and coverup. And we ended up ordering more groceries half-way through the week. I would suggest adding bottled water to your grocery list. We initially didn't do that, but the tap water tasted a little funny. We had a great experience ordering our groceries through Sandie and having them delivered to the house.

I would highly recommend staying here and hope to come back myself. This is a great place to get away from the busyness of life.

The Perfect Place for our Family Reunion

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time with family at Perfect Placement! The house was GREAT and the closeness to the water was perfect. The decks all around, comfy living room and two dining room tables allowed us to spread out yet be together. Kitchen was well equipped for all of our different meals. Young and old enjoyed the beautiful sunsets and many many walks on the beach. Though there were TV's all over, we were unplugged and turned it on only once. We had the one golf cart but shared it to explore North Captiva. Perfect place to get away and just enjoy each other. The beauty, comfort and conveniences in the house definitely enhanced our trip. We were fortunate to meet the owners--great folks, eager to help in any way. The family pics turned out great! Thanks Alicia!

Good Potential, but Somewhat Disappointing

  • 3 of 5

This home is beautiful and well laid out. It lives up to its name "Perfect Placement". It is located near the best beach, but with a very private feel to it. The views are amazing. The kitchen is well-equipped. We liked all the books they had around the house. Overall, it was a very welcoming atmosphere. It probably lived up to the good reviews it got when everything was new.

However, it would be a lot better if the owners were more careful about maintaining everything. In three out of the four bedrooms, the mattresses were so uncomfortable, we had to place them on the floor in order for the occupants to actually sleep. The carpets have a lot of stains and some of the tiles in the main area need to be replaced. It is almost to the point that someone could trip on a few of them.

The condition of the golf carts is not the owner's fault, but the owner does need to be aware that for whatever fee they are paying the club, the club is not maintaining its equipment. The first golf cart we were given wouldn't have lasted two holes of golf. It took three days for the club to replace it. Even after charging the battery all night and part of the morning, several people in our party had to push the dead golf cart a long way quite a few times. The second one was slightly better, but it looks as if they don't update or replace them very often. The beach chairs were rusty, old, and one was even broken and unusable.

The people that work for the club are all very pleasant, and we have no complaints about them at all. It just seems like management needs to be a more attentive and organized.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your stay at our home and for your comments. I apologize for the things that went wrong during your stay. It is very unfortunate and I have immediately addressed the issues. We have already replaced one of the mattresses this week and are quickly working on the others. For the stains on the carpet; we have notified the cleaning staff. For the lose tile; thank you for bring that to the Island Club’s attention during your stay. They have scheduled to fix the tile. I spoke with the Island Club about the issues on their part. They have a great team of maintenance staff that work on the golf carts. Whenever there is a problem with a golf cart they can be called and they will bring out a new cart ASAP. I’m so sorry that the system failed you and I have brought it to their attention. For the beach chairs; our renters can always go to the Island Club pool area and check out new beach chairs if the ones they were given are not suitable. Great news is they will be ordering all new beach chairs in the next month. I encourage all our renters to please let us know if there are any issues leading up to and during their stay. We want to be involved and make sure every issue is avoided or resolved before the end of our renters’ stay. I am so sorry for the inconvenience you have experienced. I hope that you enjoyed your stay otherwise and that these issues will keep you from returning to North Captiva and staying in our home.

Great Beach House

  • 4 of 5

The house was in the perfect location on the island. The views were great from all rooms facing the Gulf of Mexico. My boys could walk 30 yards out the front door and be on the white sand beach. The beach in front of house is the best on the island. Make sure to book a fishing time with the Fishing Lady who lives down the street. It was the highlight of our trip.

Great rental experience

  • 4 of 5

Superb location near beach with water views from 2 of the 3 bedrooms and from entire common living space on main floor. Heated outdoor shower--awesome! 2 dining table areas, great for games on one and food on the other. Great decks and screened porch. Owner was very nice to deal with over phone and email.

Only down side at all keeping this from 5-star rating is one of the beds--mattress worn such that 2 sleepers roll toward middle of bed. Beds and sleeping are a big deal to most people, so I would suggest replacing that one.
