Experience Lightner Creek- Durango's best-kept secret
(the movie 'City Slickers' was filmed at the end of the road)
Our secluded moutain chalet's entrance is over a private bridge, which crosses the beautiful Lightner Creek and winds through cottonwood trees up to the house. The chalet itself abuts the mountainside & has its own private trail up to the famed 'Mushroom Rocks' plateau (where you can find 1000 yr old Anasazi Indian artwork along the ridge). Look out the expansive windows & high beam aspen ceilings of the home & you will be breathtaken by a few acres of diverse, magnificently landscaped terrain. Some of the features are a private, spring-fed pond stocked with monster rainbows, a couple private beaches & fireplace area on Lightner Creek, & meadows of aspen, cottonwood, pine & fruit trees. It is worth mentioning the fenced-in acreage make great ball fields, playground for kids & adults alike (in the winter, you can sled down the base of the mountain).
The property itself was built in 1997 with expansive windows & high beam ceilings. We have recently remodeled much of the home, including new hardwood floors, river rock fireplace hearth & entire build-out of 1st floor, which includes a large, carpeted kids' playroom. All of the furniture and linens in the home are brand new, which include a beautiful office area w/reclining lounge chair for reading.
I'm sure you already know about all that Durango has to offer & will just mention again that our 24 secluded acres are less than 4 miles from downtown & all the exceptional restaurants.
Back to our location- we are surrounded on three sides by Perin's Peak State Park, which means some of the best hiking/biking is right out the front door (pick up a guidebook & you will see Dry Fork Loop, Colorado Trail, Twin Buttes, Barnroof Point & Perin's Peak are all within walking distance of our home). If you really want the mountain 'Durango experience,' while being close to historic downtown, you have found the ideal place. It is very rare to find a secluded 24 acres, with functional flat acreage, creek, natural pond and a private mountainside, just 5 minutes to town. Even if you don't stay with us the first time in Durango, please drive by & I bet you will call us on your next vacation to Durango.
We had a neat time at your beautiful property. We especially loved the proximity to Dry Fork & Perin's Peak Wildlife Park. Biking & hiking right from your property is convenient & the family enjoyed the railroad ride to Silverton and the candy store in town. Spending time here with family and nature was wonderful and we hope to return soon.
We had an incredible time. I can not tell you how much we enjoyed your property. The location (proximity to town), the solitude, the space from neighbors, the views, the grounds were just great. The home itself was perfect for our family. We had more than enough space and the condition of the house is hard to beat. It was so CLEAN. My wife is crazy about hummingbirds and she watched them all day in bliss. Having a yard to play in without cliff edges was great. Access to the the creek provided hours of entertainment for our children. Also, fishing in the pond proved to be great fun! The kids had exactly the reactions I was hoping for. I can not thank you enough for stocking it. We really enjoyed the hike to the mushroom rocks. The trail was well marked and fun to climb. The views were well worth the effort. The welcome basket was also a very nice touch as well as being unexpected.
We spend a great deal of time in southern colorado. We have stayed in almost every rental possible from motels to hotels, to condos, to town homes as wells free standing houses like yours. I have to say your place was by far the best rental we have ever stayed at.
Family of 5 (8 to 80) three generations. Best vacation ever! Fantastic home! Everyone had their own bedroom and bath. Less than 10 minutes to town. Very private. Lot of wild life. The two healthy family members hiked up to the top of the mushroom rocks. Did everything Durango had. Train ride, rafting, Durango Resort, horseback riding, fly fishing, Goldmine tour, etc., etc. Also many great restaurants. Would definitely go back and would rent this house again.
We had a great time staying in your Durango home. My family enjoyed the hike out the back door, cooking hot dogs and marshmallows over the huge fire pit, and we especially liked watching the hummingbirds flocking around the feeder on the porch. Thanks again!
As beautiful as Durango was, we never wanted to leave the property. If your looking for a quite getaway our a great place to take the whole family, this place has it all. We look forward to coming back!!
A perfect property for our family get-together (ages 6 to 79). Love at first sight as we drove up to the property. Loved the wrap-around deck and beautiful views and the home is beautiful, spacious and quiet. The furnishings are comfortable and the property is well-maintained, quiet and private but convenient to town. It fulfilled all our hopes.
This beautiful property was very cozy for our family with the warm fireplace, well-equipped kitchen, comfy bedrooms, and beautiful views. The kids especially enjoyed the sledding on the mountainside right outside the front door. We also all loved the historic town of Durango and all it's offerings; the train, great restaurants, friendly people, and Durango Mtn. Ski Resort! We are coming back!
