The Cabin is remote and quiet, and the property is wooded. The cabin is located on High Lake at the headwaters of the Manitowisch river, 8 miles northeast of Boulder Junction, in the Northern Highland forest. High Lake is great for all water sports from boating, waterskiing and canoeing to scuba diving and swimming. The property has Level lake access with fisherman frontage and boat ramp less than 1 miles from cabin. There are 194 lakes in 9 mile radius of Boulder Junction. Nearby recreation includes golf, tennis, hiking, bicycling and horseback riding.
High Lake is connected to Fishtrap Lake and the Manitowish River for miles of scenic waterway. High Lake covers 760 acres. Motors are allowed. Fish include Muskey, Walleye, Northen Pike, Crappie, Bluegill, Bass, Perch. Fishing guide service is available.
This was a very nice place and had every thing you needed. Very secluded and we had a good time except the 3 day muskie tournament that took place the next day after we got there. Other than the rain and wind , we had a good time. The cabin was clean and comfortable. Mike treated us very good. I would recommend this place to anyone.
Your cabin and lake property was just what the Doc ordered! It was perfect for my family(3 daughters). My husband and 15 year old daughter fished everyday off the floating dock (we had the best perch sandwiches for lunch one day) and we played cards on there in the late afternoons. We loved hearing the loons every morning! The wooden pier walk to the lake was my favorite! Also, during our stay there we took advantage of renting bikes in Boulder Junction(few miles away). There is a beautiful new bike path! Another day we rented canoes there, too! Lots of great memories! Gooches, One Bar and Grill has a great fish fry! We felt so at home in your cabin. Plenty of room, neat and clean. Thank you for sharing your place with us and being so accommodating!! ! Rick & Maria
Very clean house! Kitchen has plenty of pots and pans and everything you need to cook with, just bring your own food, TV receives about 4+ channels plus a DVD player also, thats handy on a rainy day.
Lots of parking! you could park 4 boat trailers 4+ cars easily, plus a large turn around area. The boat launch is only about a 1/4 mile from the drive way, I Had no problem putting my 1996 18.5' Crestliner Fish/Ski I/O in and out,( Note my boat even fit through the large culvert tube that connects to Fishtrap Lake, just cut the engine, raise the I/O and pull yourself thru with the hand grips in the tube)
Very nice fire pit with chairs, picnic table + wood to burn, just bring your own fire starter. Very nice fish cleaning house also with a sink and running water. Note: you cannot see the Lake from the house But that helps to make it a nice quite property (lakes can be noisy in the summer months).
Dock is in a weedy bay but I had no problems, just reverse thrust the weeds off your prop once you are in deeper water.(not a concern for experienced boaters). There is a public Swimming beach just a little west of Land-O-Lakes right on the highway on Black Oak lake.
High Lake has good fishing! and good weed structure, we caught Large Mouth, Blue Gills, Rock Bass, Perch, and a 36" Muskie, we did not try for walleye but they are there. Mike & Jackie are great hosts they return call's or E-Mails quickly.
Beautiful property with all the comforts of home! Great fishing ! Secluded and relaxing with quiet and nature as a background. The stars in the sky at night are amazing! This place really chased our blues away!
Thank you Mike and Jackie for sharing your piece of heaven on earth with us.
We enjoyed our time here. The cabin is secluded with a short walk to the lake. We interacted with the owner Mike and he is very nice. The house is situated on a very big lot with a deck, an area to grill, plenty of parking, a fish house, a separate bonfire area and easy access to the upstairs or downstairs to unload your car. I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the lot. Mike makes it clear that the pier leading to the lake is a marshy area and you can't swim. We tried to fish off the pier and brought back weeds with every cast. Mike does supply two non-motorized boats to use to go out further and get away from the weeds. I just wish the cabin had air conditioning (it was very hot the last two days we were there) and the bathroom didn't have a mold smell to it. I just think the shower curtain needs to be replaced - easy fix. The biggest bed is a full size and all the other beds are all twins -- so it's not really conducive for more than one couple. All and all, we had a great time. Mike was nice enough to allow us to bring our two dogs (who are very well behaved). They had such a great time exploring the land and all the new smells. One more note: bring LOTS of bug spray. You are in the Northwoods of Wisconsin and will need it!
This cabin and the location were the perfect place for our family fishing trip. The cabin fit our needs especially having the lower level for fishing rods, tackle boxes, tubing tubes, and everything else that we bring along. This lower area allowed us to keep our clutter out of the main living area and it was much more accessible to our vehicle and the lake. The washer and dryer were a huge plus when you have 3 children with you. This saved me a mid-week trip to the laundromat. The boat launch is located just down the road and is within walking distance. The boat launch and the cabin property offer an abundance of wild life. We saw blue heron, turtles (one we estimate about 75 years old), ducks, a porcupine, deer, multiple species of birds, loons, eagles, etc. During the week we were there, June 16 - 23, it rained but that didn't keep us inside. In between rain drops we went fishing and tubing. No matter where we went on the lake we caught perch, bluegill, bass, crappies and one small musky. While on the lake it was made very clear by a male loon not to come close to the mother with her two babies. This is the time I could have used a video camera. The lake offers access to the Manitowish chain of lakes which we used to take our kayaks out for a good portion of the day. You can start kayaking by the cabin pier on High Lake and go for miles down the Manitowish. We chose to go only as far as the Headwatetrs Bar/Grill. If you enjoy kayaking, the Manitowish is a must! If you don't own kayaks you can rent them in town and they will transport them for a small fee. If you're looking for a good swimming beach/picnic area, just go a few miles on Hwy B to Black Oak Lake. They have a clean sandy beach area that is designated for swimming. We went there twice during the week and both times nobody else was there. It was very quiet other than a few cars going by on the road. After swimming we continued driving into Land O Lakes and found the "Dairy Maid" ice cream stand. I would recommend the large root beer float. My son commented that you could almost fit a child's head into the cup they are soooo big. If you enjoy go-karting you must go to Elmer's in St. Germain. We just happen to drive past "Elmer's" while looking for an archery store in St. Germain. Elmer's has the best go-kart track we have ever seen. Prices were very reasonable. If you enjoy shooting, there is a shooting range on Hwy M as you come into Boulder Junction that we utilized
