Guestbook comments from the owner

We LOVED the house and the neighborhood and will definitely look to stay there again. I honestly can't say what we would complain about???....it was a small TV but we honestly didn't have time to watch it so that didn't bother us either! Everything was perfect!

Thanks, Julie, for these great comments for our future guests It was a pleasure to have you all stay with us! Just so you know, a second, larger TV screen is in the works for 2013.

A Cottage with Character

  • 4 of 5

This cottage is super sweet and clean with much more room than in the pictures. I took typical supplies - paper towel, toilet paper, soap, laundry soap - and it turns out I didn't need to. Everything was generously supplied (even charcoal and lighter fluid!).

As somebody else mentioned in their review, renter MUST LOVE TRAINS. The proximity to the trains isn't bothersome unless it's 2:00 a.m.

Location to attractions great! Nice walk to downtown and a stone's throw to McGuire's.

Owner response time was so-so, but she was beyond friendly.

Thanks, Deborah! We would recommend. :)

Owner's Response: So glad to hear that all went well with your trip here. It has been a crazy busy season this year and we are running hard every week to make sure that the cottage has all that it needs and is prepared well for your visit. I am glad to hear that the paper goods, etc that are provided were helpful. I always loved going to a place that had a good starter set of what we needed, so i try to do that for my guests. If it has taken me a smidge longer to get back to you than normal, my apologies. Just know its because we are trying to fit it all in, for you! But, I promise to work harder on that in the future too! :) Thanks again for visiting our Blue La Rua Cottage in Pensacola. You and your family are welcome back anytime, Jessica!

multi generation stay

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our stay at the house on La Rua! Location was great to many spots (go see Historic Pensacola Village), & we all tossed around thoughts of yester-year as we wondered about the history of this home...high ceilings, claw ft tub, fireplaces, front foyer, etc. One would never know so much is tucked into this place. Was very glad to use the washer/dryer for the clothing before we left. Plenty of space to put things. Though the kitchen is set up with a bistro set, there is a larger dining area in the parlor. The teens brought their own gaming system (flat screen tv was already there) for late "hang out" time, worked out fine for all as multiple rooms allowed for other spots for quieter visiting. All of us would enjoy returning here if ever available again.

This is what Pensacola is all about...

  • 5 of 5

Ms. Hughes was a delight to work with, the cottage surpassed our expectations, and we were located in the heart of everything making this the easiest vacation EVER. The setup of the house is a little different, but they maximized the space to make it extremely comfortable for 7 people. The place is WAY bigger than it looks in pictures, and it is very well maintained. If you want ALL the comforts of home, a property manager that is easy to work with, AND the best location in town- book Blue La Rua!

Mrs Deborah ,

Thanks so much again for rental of your cottage we had a wonderful , plenty of room and our babygirl had so much fun . The only thing that was issue was how hot it was in the house after we cooked . It took a while to cool off but we managed . We will definitely be back next summer with both our kids and stay longer . Thanks again

Owner's Response: Thanks, Mandy and friends for staying with us again this summer. It is so nice to have repeat guests! Sorry about the heat in the kitchen. I've stayed there with my family for a couple weeks at a time and have never had a problem with it at all, so maybe it's a function what's cooking in the oven, stove, microwave or convection oven and how long it cooks. Our house two efficient, large air conditioning systems, one for the front of the house and one for the back. Guests can control the thermostats to suit their preferences in either section. There are also ceiling fans in almost all of the rooms and a nice breeze that cools our shady, elevated rear deck. Staying cool, even in sunny Pensacola, is definitely one of the things we want to make sure everyone can do! Join us, too, on the covered front porch for a cool drink and appetizers year round. :) Best regards, Deborah

House much bigger and nicer than in the pictures.

  • 5 of 5

This house was wonderful. It's 15 minutes from the beach and just a few minutes from downtown. It is much bigger and nicer than in the pictures. The dinning room, which is the biggest room, isn't even pictured. The owner was quick to respond to all my questions leading up to our stay. The neighborhood is very nice. I do have a few things to say to readers to be aware of though: A train crossing is only a block away and the trains blast their horn when they go by. It happened 2-3 times a night while we were there. We cooked most of our meals and the kitchen was good for that, but the dinning room is on the opposite end of the house making for long trips to set the table and clean up afterwards. If we go to Pensacola again, we'll probably rent this house again.

A charming vacation home!

  • 5 of 5

This house was all we expected and more! It is very roomy, decorated in a quaint old fashioned style, and is close to downtown Pensacola. It is an older style house, so the rooms are set up a little funny - if you have more than 4 people staying there, you'll end up walking through several bedrooms to get to the kitchen (there isn't one long hallway with bedrooms opening off of it - the rooms just lead into one another). Also, the kitchen and dining room are on opposite sides of the house. But we didn't mind those things. The 6 of us fit very comfortably, and loved the spaciousness of the house compared to a hotel room. It is also very economical for 6 people, as you are able to prepare your own food in the house and each person spends a fraction of what they would in a hotel. The kitchen is furnished with all the basic cooking supplies - pots, pans, can opener, plates, glasses, silverware, stove, fridge, microwave, etc. And even a spice rack, oil, and sponge for washing dishes. Bedding and towels/washcloths are provided, and there is a washer and drying in one of the bathrooms. The house is located in a lovely part of town, very quiet at night except for a train that goes by once in the morning and once in the evening. The owner of the home is very easy to get in touch with and eager to help with anything you need. We were in town for a graduation, so went to several activities at the college, but also enjoyed the nearby beach, Fort Pickens, Lambert's restaurant in Alabama (a must if you haven't ever been. It is such a fun experience! Definitely go hungry!!), and the Navy air museum (free, and you could spend days in there!) I would definitely recommend this home, and if I'm ever in Pensacola again, I'll stay there. My sister is going to tell her friends who are still in college about it so their family members can know about it for next year.
