My wife and I just returned from a 10th anniversary trip to Isla Mujeres in which we stayed at Castillo del Candelabro. I can say without question this is tone of the finest properties that we have ever had the privilege to visit. As a U.S. diplomat who has been fortunate enough to visit much of the world and stay at some amazing properties, I am not easily impressed. Like many others who have spent significant amounts of money to stay at "luxury" destinations, I have often been disappointed once I actually arrived at the property. This was definitely not one of those experiences. This is genuinely a walled villa complete with wrought iron gate. While the exterior is impressive in its own right, the interior is the show stopper. The property designer did not leave any detail untouched and every room in the house was as beautifully decorated as any home I have ever visited.
As you might have imagined, this property was clearly designed and built from the ground up with luxury in mind. This was not your typical average property with a few added touches thrown in to enable the owners to label it luxury, but rather, this property is luxury at every level. From the gorgeous fountain that adorns the front of the home, to the one of a kind pool, to the Jacuzzis (especially the one attached to the master suite) and even to the top of the line Bosch appliances (to include front load washer and dryer) this property is top notch in every facet imaginable.
My wife and I usually prefer the benefits of a private property rather than a hotel due to the space and flexibility it provides. At the same time it is also nice to have someone to take care of the dishes, laundry and general housekeeping as one would expect in a luxury hotel. In most instances it is one or the other, but not both. In the case of Castillo del Candelabra, you can have the best of both worlds with the full time maid that is on staff. Each morning the maid would arrive at a time we had designated to clean, make beds, do the dishes, laundry and even fold clothes. To keep the meticulously manicured yard in shape there is also a full time gardener that ensured no detail was left untouched on the outside.
As you can probably tell, we truly enjoyed our stay and I can say without hesitation that I recommend this property to anyone that is looking for a beautiful home, with every amenity you might desire, on an island that will quickly steal your heart.
