Come celebrate Rocky Mountain National Park's 100 year anniversary in style! Become part of this historic event as RMNP rolls out the red carpet in honor of its' birthday.

Wunderview is a spectacular Appalachian style log home nestled between the entrance of Rocky Mountain National Park and Winter Park Ski Resort.

Built of hand-hewn logs, this luxurious mountain retreat is famous for the 'best views in Grand County' as you look out over the Continental Divide and Lake Granby. Its long wrap-around porch allows for excellent wildlife viewing in all seasons. You will enjoy a five-star kitchen with granite countertops, Viking, GE Monogram and Bosch appliances while cooking for a small party or a large family.

Your dining room table seats 10 people. It is generously positioned to view Lake Granby and the Continental Divide. And, when eating outside the covered picnic table for 12-14 looks over Lake Granby and is steps away from the large stainless steel grill.

From every window in the house you will enjoy a wonderful view. Original contemporary art and antiques fill your home. Quality linens and soft goods are provided throughout. Two fireplaces and in-floor radiant heat help you stay cozy as well a sauna. And, when you are outside there is a large fire pit facing the Continental Divide and Lake Granby.

About Tom Wunder

The Wunder family lives in Lyons, CO. We are a husband, wife and a teen. We enjoy traveling, snow sports, contemporary art, fine wines and gourmet meals. We moved from Santa Fe to Colorado to take advantage of the outdoor sports and athletic mindset that prevails in Colorado and Boulder especially.

Tom Wunder purchased this lodge in 2009

Why Tom Wunder chose Granby

Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP), wildlife, fishing, hiking, canoeing, skiing, cross country skiing, snowmobiling, horse back riding, golfing, snow shoeing, lakes, and sledding are a few of the reasons we chose to build in Grand County. There is aggressive hiking for the adventurous, beautiful less strenuous hikes along the Colorado River, and, at dusk, some of the best animal watching on the planet. Grand Lake is an unpretentious western town with the deepest lake in Colorado. We would say Grand County is a true reflection of what Colorado is all about!

What makes this lodge unique

The views transport you and it is easy to spend hours on the porch or looking out the windows watching the colors, the sky, and the animals come and go. This lodge realizes all the images we hold of what a 'lodge' is: the hearth, the warmth, the beauty, the serenity, the comfort, the quiet, nature finding her way into the home. The windows are abundant allowing guests to enjoy all the views.

Cooking at the lodge is a communal experience with the kitchen producing meals that everyone proudly takes ownership of--crepes are a lodge favorite. On the wraparound covered porch is a large grill and a picnic table for 14-16 people. There are plenty of rockers on the porch for everyone to sit outside--chipmunks and humming birds are regular visitors.

If puzzles and games strike your fancy, there are dozens from which to choose. If you are a film buff, we have a serious collection of DVD's you can enjoy on our large screen. A beautiful llama and alpaca farm can be visited across the road.

Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

You do the research, you pick a place, and you hope it turns out to be half as nice as it looks. Well this place was everything we had hoped it would be and then some. Any apprehension we may have had when booking the home quickly faded when dealing with the homeowners, Tom and Melinda Wunder.

We found them to be friendly, honest, and generous with their time and knowledge of the area. They enthusiastically answered every question we had and did exactly what they said they would do when they said they would do it. It was as though we were dealing with old friends from the very first contact to the moment we walked into the home to find a most warm and gracious welcome note on the countertop. Although three pages in length and full of any and all of the information we may have needed to manage the property, the essence of the note was “welcome home, what’s ours is yours, please enjoy.” And enjoy we did.

And the home, the Wunder Cabin, couldn’t have been more perfect. A beautifully appointed home, exquisitely finished and unbelievably comfortable. Quiet, secluded yet quite accessible, and with views from the home and wrap around deck that are nothing short of breathtaking. Perfect.

There were ten of us. Five couples from across the Midwest and Southwest, gathering as we do nearly every year to celebrate our friendships that go back to our college days circa 1967-73. We enjoyed food, wine, laughter, golf, hiking, shopping…and all from the comfort of our beautiful home, courtesy of the Wunders. We can’t thank you enough. It was all too PERFECT!

Wunderview Vacation with friends...

  • 5 of 5

I am apart of a group of friends that have been fortunate enough to have enjoyed not the beauty of spectacular views just front the deck of the lodge but also the eloquent 5 star lodge. The rooms and living areas could not have been more well taken care of and top of the line. We loved it so much one year ago that we came back for a second visit.

A little piece of heaven

  • 5 of 5

Our second stay at Wunderview proved every bit as special as our first 3 years ago. Tom and Melinda go to great lengths to make sure guests feel welcomed and are at home. It began with a personal tour of Wunderview by Katy. On our arrival, a bottle of wine awaited us--to help us relax from the long drive! As before, we saw wildlife all around Wunderview--most notably elk and wood chucks! The wood chucks sat on the rocks right out the kitchen window. We hiked in the park, up the road, and used the fireplace every night. The snow storms were beautiful even though a bit challenging in our front wheel drive car--but we never got stuck! The kids (5) enjoyed all the games, DVDs and hiding places in the house--they never got bored. The beds are comfortable and it is refreshing to stay at a place where the linens are first class. Thank you Tom and Melinda for opening your home to us. We look forward to returning!!"

Wonderful time at Wundrview

  • 5 of 5

This was our second visit to Wunderview and the second trip was just as great as the first. The cabin is luxurious and in a great place to access the outdoor activities on the west side of Rocky Mountain National Park and Frazer Valley. In addition to seeing fox, humming birds, ground squirrels and moose near the cabin (ok the moose were on the road in) we took another visit to the Alpaca Farm to visit with the nice folks down there, watch out for the blue eyed one it spits :-).

Truly A Luxury Mountain Retreat

  • 5 of 5

Wunderview was everything that I had expected and more!

I had the pleasure of coordinating a trip with Tom, the owner of Wunderview. He is an incredibly kind, accommodating and good-humored host.

The location of Wunderview provides stunning views of mountain ranges and Lake Granby. The wraparound deck was the perfect spot to take in all of the vistas, with morning coffee in hand while occupying one of the many rocking chairs located on the deck.

The accommodations were that of a four star hotel. Expect to find quality bedding, mattresses, towels. And the kitchen?! Wow, it's a gourmet kitchen with top-notch appliances.

It is immediately obvious that this place is lovingly cared for. You will not be disappointed with Wunderview.

Notes:
Breathtaking views of the continental divide, adjacent to BLM land, great wildlife viewing, original contemporary art throughout home, log structure is hand-hewn, fantastic gourmet kitchen with commercial appliances, European glass showers, radiant heat, best views in Grand County! The nearest property is about 1/3-1/2 mile away--Wunder-view is not in a subdivision where there are many homes: 25 acre parcels is the average lot size.
