This beautifully appointed, very unique, custom built cabin is now available to rent, either nightly or by the week. Aptly named “The Tree House” for the trees, in the house! Whether it’s for Summer recreation, Fall foliage or winter skiing, it is a perfect place for a romantic honeymoon, family getaway, couples getaway or family reunion. Located on pristine Watauga Lake, you have access to 106 miles of shoreline and are surrounded by the Cherokee National Forest. The lake and mountain views from this cabin are spectacular.
The Tree House is the perfect place to 'escape' the daily grind and enjoy nature's beauty from the comfort of a well-equipped lakeside cabin. It is a short walk to the private marina and gazebo, where there is a 30 foot covered boat slip for your boat or jet ski, a 2 person kayak for your use or a 24 foot Bennington Fish and Cruise Pontoon, for rent exclusively by Tree House guests. You can be busy every minute, or simply sit by the water's edge and relax.
Pet Policy: Well behaved pets are welcome with an extra security deposit of $150, and an additional $25 cleaning fee. Pets must be spayed or neutered, current on all vaccines and treated with some form of topical flee treatment, like Frontline, one week prior to arrival.

For years, my husband and I have been looking for a 4-season place to get 'out of the rat race'. We love the outdoors, and wanted a place to do it all-hike, boat, snow ski, fish, golf, horseback ride....and relax. This past Fall, we finally discovered Watauga Lake and The Tree House. It is one of the most beautiful, peaceful places we have seen. We immediately fell in love with it and hope you will too!
Kim Matlack purchased this cabin in 2009
This house has unique personality and character. We loved it! Kimberly and Sam provided excellent service and everything we need is ready in the house. Really, beyond our expectations! The boat is the icing on the cake. We hope to be back!
We could not have picked a better place for our Tennessee Christmas vacation! The Tree House cabin is exactly what we had hoped for in every way. We decked the halls and made it merry with a tree and everything. Kim was more than helpful and very responsive via email to every request - even a last minute, week of Christmas request to use the pontoon boat. Although we didn't end up taking it out, we appreciated her willingness to work with us last minute! Everything in the pictures is exactly as it was at the Tree House. The only guidance I could provide is to use Kim's directions for the GPS and not enter the address alone! We ended up on a very back woods side of the mountain road as the GPS told us we had reached our destination (no lake in sight). After re-reading Kim's directions, we found it without a problem! I could not be happier with this place! Can't wait to go back in the summer and enjoy the lake in all it's beauty! PS - we found a very cool old 1890's tombstone/graveyard up the valley from the boat dock. Worth the hike to check it out!
The owners are squared away and answered their phone when I first called to check on dates which made it great because I was unable to leave a call back number from abroad. It was everything the pictures showed on the site, received detailed instructions and information prior to leaving my home and things were good to go upon arrival.
"The Tree House" is perfect for a weekend get-a-way! The house exceeded our expectations - better than described, clean, very well-maintained and a perfect location to spend an "Indian Summer" weekend. The kitchen was well equipped and had everything needed to prepare our meals each evening. The beds were super "comfy" and the room darkening blinds allowed us to sleep late each morning.
If staying at "The Tree House", do not miss out on the pontoon boat - it is immaculate! We spent two wonderful days enjoying the lake - our friend's dog was allowed to join us on the boat and she probably had more fun than us swimming and fetching her favorite water toy.
Kimberly (the owner) was very responsive to all my questions and a pleasure to rent from. We will definitely return - hopefully many times!!
We had a wonderful 5 days at the Tree House, a very peaceful, relaxing and enjoyable time spent with our family. The home was just beautiful, as was the surrounding lake and mountains. We explored the lake in the two person kayak, hiked the Appalachian Trail, had an old fashioned weeny roast in the fire pit, took a day trip to Boone and Blowing Rock, and most of all, enjoyed the simple pleasure of being together. Thanks to Kim and Bill for sharing their lovely home with us.. God Bless..
Don't even know where to begin, but would encourage anyone considering the PRIVILEGE of renting this amazing home, to read all of the reviews. We agree with every single one. We have been fortunate enough to stay in some fabulous places over the past 20 years...Carmel Valley, CA, Thousand Islands, Canada, Long Beach California (on a B&B that was a yacht), North Captiva Island, FL, Snead Island, FL, Sanibel Island, FL, Luray, Virginia, Canandaigua NY, St. Thomas Virgin Islands, Montreal, Toronto, Estes Park Colorado, New York City, Chicago, Puerto Rico, Lake Charles Louisianna, Annapolis MD, New Haven CT, Plum Island Mass, etc...with at least 2 of our "kids"(our dogs) and we've NEVER, EVER been treated as royally as, the owner, KIM, has treated us.
Someone else said, Kim, who lives in Virginia, is ALWAYS available to help make your stay as stress free as possible. The home is "beyond beautiful"...it is breathtaking...doesn't matter what time of day or night you are there...just before sunrise is incredible....sunrise, watching the clouds disappear, the small streaks of sun spraying their rays over certain trees and certain parts of the lake, are treasures we will never forget...the fresh smell in the air...the honor of watching the hummingbirds feed only feet from where you are is hard to describe...we, too made "S'mores'...OMG, hadn't had them since I was a girl scout....100 years ago, it seems.
Also want to mention the thoughtfulness of the Owners to make telephone and wi-fi service available
at no cost....even encourages using the free long distance services. WOW! Want to mention cell phone service in the Watauga Lake area...AT&T does not work up there, but, I'm told Verizon works fairly well. Kim provides access to free wi-fy so you can send and receive emails and browse the Internet. Sirius XM music channels and tons of TV stations also there at the click of the remote...
Washer and dryer is a HUGE plus...Dishwasher is the quietest I've ever NOT heard..There's even a Lobster Pot. Final comments..I wasn't bragging about all the places we've been...most of those have been because we have top show dogs that we show personally...which involves much travel, money and pet friendly places. Doesn't get any better than the TREE HOUSE! We loved it so much we put a deposit on a lot. We are an average couple, (husband is auto tech) but this vacation has shown us where we want to spend the rest of our lives. THANK YOU KIM!
We loved the Treehouse! The house was perfect for our needs and we loved all the unique features. Kim was great about answering all my questions and was very accommodating. We are already talking about doing it again next year!
