Cottage, 1 Bedroom + Loft + Den, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 3-4)

The "Hummingbird Sunset" Cottage (dubbed by our guests) is a Storybook Property above the Heart of Downtown Ventura, Detached Guest house with private bath and kitchenette on property with owner's main house. Treehouse is also a separate structure and sleeps one.

Private lush flower garden with full mountain views and a peek-a-boo of the ocean with the Channel Islands on clear days, deer grazing at Grant park at sunrise on the hill. Just steps to Historic Main street and it's trendy shops and restaurants,night clubs and galleries, to fresh produce at Farmer's market on Saturday mornings. Take the beach cruisers down miles of boardwalk past Surfer's Point, the Fairgrounds, several campgrounds, the longest pier in California, to the Harbor and beyond. Hiking, Surfing, and nightlife are all walking distance. Ojai and Santa Barbara are quick drives away. The rooms are small but charming, the accommodations are for people who want to explore what the area has to offer. Fire Pit, Fountain, Barbecue, Porch Swing, it is romantic and subtle for the perfect get-away. So close to what you wanna see but feels like the perfect jungle Hide-Away.

About The Owner

I am a business owner, a mom and a former art director in the film industry. I love Ventura and all it has to offer in the way of daytime adventure and nature, nightlife and art. Forbes magazine lists Ventura as one of the top four places to live in the U.S.! I agree. I have been surprised and pleased with the lovely guests we have had to enjoy the space.

The Owner purchased this cottage in 2005
Why The Owner chose Ventura

Just one hour North of Hollywood, one half hour South of Santa Barbara, and twenty minutes West of Ojai, we have the best of the ocean, the city and the mountains right here and a quick hop away. Pets are also welcome in the cottage. Securely fenced and ready to roam, the large garden and wild lower yard are, as recent guests described it, "Dog Heaven".

What makes this cottage unique

The treehouse is lovely, completely wired and heated.

It is perfect for naps or for foot-sturdy adults/ children to sleep in (steps are steep).

Best view on the property of the green, untouched mountains to our North.

Wonderful Getaway

My husband and I stayed at this lovely and charming cottage with our two small dogs. We had a wonderful time and wished we could have stayed a couple of more days. Our doggies loved the fenced yard and enjoyed exploring the garden. We highly recommend this wonderful cottage.

The listing description was accurate and the photos do reflect this magical cottage. Our family stayed here and had a wonderful time. We truly felt at home and will definitely be back. And the cookies the owner left for us were much appreciated after a long drive. I would absolutely recommend this rental to anyone.

my stay at this adorable cottage was absolute bliss! the cottage is so cute, decorated with lovely antiques and surrounded by the beautiful views of ventura and the surrounding mountains..the owner, sandra is very accomodating and delivers little breakfast surprises to your door in the morning (banana bread and fresh blueberries..yum!)..plus she stocked the fridge with all kinds of snacks!...sitting outside in the garden, you're surrounded by orioles, doves and all kinds of little birds, you can just relax, read or enjoy the view...plus, the cottage is within walking distance from main st, the beach and all the shopping...you've got a great selection of books and dvds for a relaxing night in and you can enjoy your privacy as well....we rented the cottage for a full week, and believe me, we didnt want to leave!...a great place to stay and enjoy, relax and just detox from the stresses of everyday life...loved every minute! and hope to return very soon...thanks sandra, you were a fabulous hostess!! :-)

Exactly what I was looking for!

I absolutely loved my stay at the cottage and it was exactly what I was looking for being a young couple! The night life is fun and walking distance to the beach. The owner was so nice and hospitable. I stayed for 3 days for a getaway with my boyfriend and the location is amazing! I got all the privacy I needed and the owner was very attentive when we needed something. Such a great deal for such a lovely place! Do not pass this up! It is not to good to be true, it is TRUE! Cannot wait to go back! Thanks Sandra

We really enjoyed our stay at your Hummingbird Cottage Sandra was very accommodating and worked us in for a last minute discount. The eclectic selection of music, movies and reading material were also appreciated. The change of scenery was just what we needed. The view overlooking the city and the lush grounds are beautiful.
We could not ask for a more perfect location, parking was easily available, the Fairgrounds minutes away and it is just a short walk downtown. There is a "Magic Staircase" that drops into the heart of downtown, an unexpected bonus we took full advantage of (thanks Darby)!
