Great cottage in the woods - convenient to fishing and sight-seeing

  • 5 of 5
This was the perfect place for us to stay in Alaska. The cottage is clean and perfect for a couple. It has everything you need to do some cooking. If you want to eat out, you really need to go to Wasilla.
We recommend the local guide, Mike Coughlin. We caught so many rainbow trout in 2 days, we lost count.
The cottage is right on Willow Creek and if you like solitude, this is the place for you.
It is also convenient to lots of sightseeing:
We rode to the Independence Gold Mine through Wasilla. We heard the Hatcher's Pass road through Willow is a little difficult to drive. Denali is about 2 1/2 hours away. We did not make the drive, but we had an amazing view from Willow on the Parks Highway.
Some other drives we made were to Mr. Alyeska and the Turnaround Arm - also amazing and then to the Matunuska Glacier. The only thing I missed at the cottage was no Wi-Fi, but the Willow library is convenient.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the great review. It was good to meet both of you & we're glad you liked our place & did so well fishing. Mike Coughlin has a great fish guiding business & makes it very enjoyable for all his clients. We also recommend him as a guide. Also glad you were able to see so many of the sites this area has to offer and beyond.

Wonderful home away from home for our 35th wedding anniversary celebration

  • 5 of 5
This cabin was an absolutely perfect rental for our visit to Alaska. We were truly appreciative of Paul and Ginny's attention to detail in this rental. We were missing nothing as far as what may be needed when you are away from home. The kitchen has most any type of utensil or cookware to prepare exceptional meals. The bedroom has two large closets along with the most comfortable bed ever. In addition to all of the added comforts there is a laundry room with both washer and dryer available. The cleanliness of the cabin is exceptional also. The location is ideal for many different areas you may want to visit when you are in Alaska. We appreciated all of the information from Paul about different sites to travel to. The view of Willow Creek from the front porch was so relaxing for us in the evening. This is an exceptional property for short or long term rental.

A GEM OF A CABIN, IN A PRIME LOCATION **YOU WILL NOT BE SORRY MAKING THIS CHOICE!**

  • 5 of 5
WINTER IN ALASKA IS BEAUTFUL! DO NOT HESITATE TO VISIT!

Having dreamed of taking a trip to Alaska for so long, we wanted to be sure that we picked an excellent property. It's hard, when pouring over the seemingly endless number of vacation listings, to narrow things down. Photos and information provided by owners don't always live up to their claims. I literally inquired with dozens of different property owners, weighing all of the benefits, reviews, costs and other items in an attempt to make the perfect choice. I am SO GRATEFUL that we booked this property! It is absolutely everything it claims to be, and more. The photos just do not do it justice. The cabin is cozy, welcoming, and impeccably clean. And the BEDS! Oh wow! Literally the most comfortable ever. Paul and Ginny made us feel as if we were staying at a luxury hotel, with their attention to detail and our comfort. We were there in the dead of winter during record snowfall, and like having our own elves that came and left without notice, we would wake to find that the lengthy driveway was constantly plowed, and that wood for the wood burning stove/heater that we loved to use for heating was cut and put up on the outside porch for ease of use. (There is also a traditional house heater in the cabin if you prefer to use that instead of the wood stove - but we loved the warmth and the ambiance of the wood stove!) It is amazing how efficient the entire State of Alaska seems to be at snow removal. We were a bit hesitant when deciding on a winter trip; but trust me, there is no need to worry. The roads, particularly the Parks Highway and Willow Fishhook Road, were cleaned and cleared and always ready to travel - which we did. The drive to Anchorage was an easy and beautiful ride of about 75 minutes; about 30 minutes to Wasilla; and we even ventured north to the winter visitor's center of Denali and an overnight stay in Fairbanks (you must drive to the "North Pole" if you go to Fairbanks!) The point of our trip was to experience Alaska, and to attend the Iditarod festivities and race start, which is literally just up the road and around the corner from the cabin. This cabin was a superior find, and at a rate that was so much more economical than anything else that is truly comparable. Don't stay in the city - this is the place, we assure you! Easy access to everything. Truly peaceful, beautiful, accessible and economical. Thank you! Can't wait to plan our second trip to AK!

Owner's Response: We are so glad you enjoyed your winter stay here in Alaska.
I would encourage anyone who really wants to see Alaska to give winter in the "Great Land" a try. Alaska holds a very special beauty during the off season, such as the quiet tranquility of the snow and the northern lights.
We sure enjoyed meeting both of you and enjoyed your company. You were so interesting to talk to and it was great to get your perspective on Alaska. We appreciate that you were really able to experience some of the culture and festivities of the North. Thank you so much for the beautiful pictures you sent our way and for the wonderful "winter review." We hope to see you back here before long. We'll keep the fires burning and the hearth warm.

Fun for the entire family

  • 5 of 5
This was a great place for our family. We went fishing every day and caught about every kind of salmon, rainbow trout and grayling along the river. Eagles flew up and down the river, great scenery and overall a great trip. One of the best things we did with our kids was a dog sled tour near just between Willow and Wasilla.

Willow Creek Cabin was wonderful and surpassed all of our expectations! The bed was soooooo comfortable and the house was perfect and immaculate. We needed nothing, all was provided! The river is nice to sit outside by on the deck and watch nature and listen to the soothing sounds. It was a nice respite from all of our hectic traveling! Paul and Ginny were the BEST hosts, Thankyou for sharing your piece of Alaska! We enjoyed Hatcher Pass and the Independence Mine and we found a Willow Arts and Crafts show that had the best food and crafts. Don't miss the homemade honey. We LOVED Willow Baptist Church! We witnessed a Baptism and enjoyed a BBQ with them too. They were all so welcoming! We cannot wait to return! God Bless!
