This property is located just 12 miles from the center of Florence and from the moment you pass through the iron gates you will feel as though you have entered another world as time stands still. Nestled in the verdant hills of pristine Chianti landscape lies Le Valle, a 16th Century Casa Colonica. Many centuries ago it was a farm house and guard tower for the nearby Castello Mugnana. Magnificently restored 4 years ago the owners paid exquisite attention to every detail. Furnished with 18th century Country French antiques, chandelier lit throughout, and adorned with European fabrics and accessories, this home will at once take your breath away and make you feel enveloped by warmth.
The three bedrooms in the main house all have en-suite bathrooms. All of the beds have top of the line mattresses and the master has a Duxiana bed, said to be the finest in the world. The marble master bath has a soaking tub and two person steam shower. The kitchen has hand hewn French cabinetry, and is equipped with everything for the most discerning of gourmet cooks. The family room has a massive stone fireplace which can be used for cooking as well as an entertainment system and a vast selection of movies and music. The stone floors throughout and the thick walls provide a cooler temperature in the summer months although every window is screened and fans are provided.
The guest house, just across the front patio and down a few steps, has its own kitchen, marble bath, and fireplace and sleeps 4 comfortably. The property is ideal for three couples and/or families with children.
There are 3 separate terraces with tables and seating each with a more gorgeous view than the next. The BOSE Entertainment system provides music to the pool and patio areas. The tumbled marble salt water pool is 5x12 meters and has an electric cover. The pool area has lots of lounge chairs and large umbrellas for reading or sunbathing and there are vistas that overlook two nearby castles. There is an organic garden for the use of our guests adjacent to the wood fired pizza oven and barbeque where you can dine alfresco under the beautiful grape vine covered pergola.
There are miles and miles of hiking trails right outside the door and a Roman road which dates back over 2000 years. You can find waterfalls and a swimming hole within a 15 minute hike from the house. One of the best restaurants in Tuscany is a spectacular 1 hour hike from the property.
The Superstrada and Autostrada are within 15 minutes by car. The village of Strada in Chianti is 4 km away where there are a few restaurants, food markets and a pharmacy. The town of Greve is 8 km away where you will find a Saturday open air market, wine tasting, shopping and cafes. The towns of Siena, Volterra, San Gimignano, Pisa, Lucca, Montepulciano, and Montalcino are all close day trips from the property. Florence is 20 km away.
We welcome those who have an appreciation for beauty and history as Le Valle encompasses the best of Tuscan life.

We decided 11 years ago to move from the San Francisco Bay Area to Italy with our then 8 year old son for one year. That one year has turned into 11 years and we are still here! We bought our 'dream' house in the heart of Chianti 8 years ago and took a year restoring it. Our son is now attending university in America so we are dividing our time between California and Tuscany and have decided to rent our 'jewel.' All of the furnishing and accessories were purchased in France. We have shared our home with many, many guests over the years and everyone leaves yearning to return. We hope that whoever takes the home will create many wonderful memories and will treasures it as we do.
Jody Turkus purchased this villa in 2005
We chose Le Valle because of the absolutely magical setting and the history and 'good bones' of the structure. Located just 20 km from Florence we are in the country yet have the advantages of Florence less than 30 minutes away. Additionally, we appreciated the hundreds of miles of hiking trails right outside our front door. We never have to get in the car to hike to a wonderful restaurant, to see a waterfall or to pick wild berries and flowers.
Waking up to the sound of birds singing and the silence of the countryside. We look at a beautiful vista from every room of the house. The air is clean and the setting dreamy. Our local village of Strada in Chianti is close by so we can choose the best produce and local specialties from our merchants. We are the only American family, as far as we know in Strada, and the locals are very welcoming to us. We have over 300 olive trees and every Fall we harvest our olives and press our own delicious oil.

this home is idyllic - spacious, beautifully located and serviced by a wonderful team. It was a privilege to be able to marry our daughter from there
Our family chose Le Valle to use a base to explore Tuscany and as a site to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. I reviewed over 10 other Villas and when I opened Le Valle’s web site, I said out loud, “Oh, this is the one for us”, and fortunately it was. The location as listed was 100% accurate and the photos were spot on. Upon entering Le Valle all of the adults in our party expressed appreciation of the peacefulness that settled over us. The scenery was beautiful from every view and everything about the setting was wonderful. Le Valle exceeded all of our hopes. As my wife said, “I’ve dreamed of spending time at a Tuscan villa. Le Valle is that dream come true.”
We had 3 generations in our party and we enjoyed top-end accommodations, enchanting gardens with blossoming flowers, a pool, an outdoor BBQ and several private areas where one could spend time alone with a good book and perhaps a glass of wine. The Arbor was my wife’s favorite! Reach out and pluck a ripe green plum from a nearby tree and deliziosa! Barry’s tomatoes, sun warm and pulled off the vine, were yummy. Our grandchildren spent many happy hours in the pool. What an idyllic, beautiful setting in which to be together.
Breakfast on the Patio table outside the Kitchen, offered inspiring views of forested hills with welcoming paths to hike and explore natural creeks, ancient ruins and large pools. Dinners were served on the upper patio accompanied with glorious sunsets. It is difficult for me to express to you how relaxing it was just to sit outside and enjoy Tuscan nature. Travel stress just melted away upon entering Le Valle on Day 1.
After enjoying Chef Fabrizio’s welcoming dinner, we hired his services for 5 more dining experiences during our 2-week stay, including a cooking class. He prepared new and different menus for each meal, bringing very fresh vegetables picked from his own garden. Barry’s staff of Peter, Magi & Valeria were all top professionals each of whom made all of us feel welcomed and took very good care of us.
If you are planning to visit and experience Tuscany, we strongly recommend Le Valle because it is located very close to Florence with it’s historical Museums, plus there are many other interesting and smaller villages nearby and plus 100s of wineries to visit.
Barry leaves an info book for you to find local Restaurants, wineries, with directions and more. All Tuscan restaurants served us very fresh food and it was skillfully and tastefully prepared. YUM!
La Valle is a lovely jewel, tucked into the Tuscany hills, with beautiful vistas from every perch. The house is large, warm and welcoming, easily accommodating the ten of us (two families with grown children). Yet most of our time was spent outdoors, moving from one charming terrace to the next, lounging by the pool and hiking the trails circling the property.
The house is ideally located, close to everything, yet completely private. And while we devoted time to visiting nearby towns, like Greve, Strada and San Gimignano, we were always eager to get back “home.” It just felt that good.
“Home” also included a wonderful group of people that help the owners, Jodi and Barry, maintain the villa in their absence. Magi and Peter, the property managers, were there to warmly greet us on the day of our arrival, providing us with a detailed tour of the house and grounds, and were quick to respond to any questions or concerns we had over the course of our stay. Valeria arrived each morning, with a wonderful smile, happy to exchange Italian lessons for English and patiently showing us how to use the espresso machine. And then there was Fabrizio, chef extraordinaire and someone whom we greatly enjoyed getting to know as a person. Together, this wonderful supporting cast made the days richer and the experience that much more memorable.
We had a wonderful stay at La Valle. The property and home are incredible, perfectly furnished and designed to make you feel at home instantly. It was an ideal base from which to explore all the charming towns in Tuscany and to experience the Italian lifestyle.
We loved the professional cappuccino machine, the garden and pizza oven, your estate olive oil,Fabrizzio the personal chef and the luxury of the home. Your very well organized and researched list of local restaurants, day trips and wineries was incredibly valuable.
Thank you for being willing to rent your personal paradise!
While may of us have dreamed of a villa vacation in Tuscany, the reality of Le Valle exceeds all expectations and fantasies. The view, the accommodations, the amenities, the fragrances of the fruit trees and abundant lavender along with the charm of the local restaurants and shops in Greve and Strada made our family reunion a truly unique and special experience. Add to the spectacular vistas and villages and vineyards, the warmth and kindness of Valeria, Peter and Magie made us feel right at home. They could not have been more attentive or responsive to our needs and questions. After our first welcome meal prepared by Fabrizio, we were so smitten that we engaged him for two more nights. Photo ops abounded as all of us snapped pictures of his preparations and his delicious meals. With high aspirations, we all promised to try to incorporate his tips into our home cooking. Whether it was sitting around the pool, the table on the patio, beneath the arbor where we had our morning expresso or in the family room watching the world cup, we felt at ease and in luxury. Barry and Jodi have found themselves a jewel and we were fortunate that they shared it with us.
Our family recently returned from a fantastic two week trip through Italy that we won't soon forget; two days in Rome, a week at Le Valle, two days in Venice, and two days at Lake Como. I must say that our pampered stay at Le Valle was the highlight of our trip and we definitely plan on returning as soon as we can. We traveled with our two children and met up with friends from California who also had two children (all ages 7-10). Le Valle was the perfect landing spot to unpack, unwind, and enjoy the relaxing Tuscan lifestyle that we dream about back home. Every detail was thought out and executed perfectly.
Both houses are immaculate Peter and Maggi couldn't be nicer or more helpful, and Vallarea was like a fairy who snuck in quietly and left the villa perfect for the day ahead. The landscaping and property are vibrant with color and we enjoyed several lunches of fresh salads from the garden. The afternoons that we weren't touring Tuscan towns were spent poolside enjoying a glass of wine and anti pasta appetizers while the kids swam in the pool. After a night at the local pizzeria, El Cielo, we returned to fire flies dancing magically above the old Roman road next to the house. If you have ever dreamed of moving to Italy as we have, this is the exact place you would hope to find. The pictures on the VRBO website don't do it justice; our experience blew our expectations away. If you are reading this review, you should reserve some time at Le Valle, you won't regret it!!
Many famous wineries are within 20 minutes drive of the house. Some of them are Fonterutoli, Castello Verrazzano, Castello Gabbiano,Castello Vicchio Maggio and the Antinori estates. We are 15 minutes from the Super Strada to Sienna and 15 minutes to the Autostrada A1 to go north or south. The famous town of Greve in Chianti is 10 minutes away where you have open air markets, wine tasting and restaurants.
