Perfect place for our vacation!

  • 5 of 5
We rented this nice home for eight nights. The owner was very nice and friendly. She was very accommodating when we arrived late from our flight delay. Her home was very clean and had everything we needed during our stay. She even left a delicious, home baked banana bread and Kona coffee for us to enjoy. The weather here was cooler and the place was so relaxing and peaceful. We were glad we found this place and definitely we will come back and stay here again on our next vacation.

Just what we wanted!

  • 5 of 5
We stayed here last year and are returning this year. We prefer something a little bit away from the resorts. This fit the bill. The house is very comfortable, clean, light filled and spacious for us 2 (or even 4). Great location, easy drive to most things, especially good snorkeling and the bay. We enjoyed sleeping at this higher, cooler elevation. We enjoyed cooking in the ohana. Gretchen and Vic are friendly.

Wonderful place to stay!

  • 5 of 5
We loved our week at Gretchen's place. The setting is lovely, with a nice ocean view and lots of space to walk among the coffee, avocado, and fruit trees. The complimentary coffee, banana bread, and as many avocados as we could eat were the icing on the cake at this truly wonderful place. The house was very nice and very comfortable, with absolutely everything we needed. The location is a short drive up a one-lane road through lush tropical growth from the main road through Captain Cook. It's very close to the grocery store and the beaches. This is one of our all-time favorite places we've stayed. Thank you, Gretchen!

An Exceptional Find

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I are lodging proprietors, so we understand the attention to particulars needed to meet or exceed guests' expectations. We spent 11 nights here and were delighted with the experience. The house is spacious, light-filled, even more attractive than in the photos, skillfully constructed and tastefully decorated. The hospitable owners welcomed us with coffee from their plantation and homemade banana bread. A friend joined us for four nights and rented the single bedroom downstairs with its own half bath, fridge and TV. (This is not the separate apt. downstairs but is next to it.) A bonus: during our stay we feasted on a seemingly endless supply of their avocados, the creamiest we've ever eaten.

The Perfect Place

  • 5 of 5
I took my teen twin grandsons to Hawaii for the first time. As we unpacked at "Tutu's Ohana", The boys exclaimed, "Wow! You picked the perfect place!" And indeed it was. Very clean, beautifully decorated, stocked with all the necessities--there was even a loaf of homemade banana bread and an 8-oz. bag of 100% Kona coffee waiting for us. Yum! Very private. Lots of room outside for the boys to play frisbee and catch. High enough on the mountain that the evening temperatures dropped to about 60º, which made very comfortable sleeping for us; it was warm during the day, and I loved drinking my morning coffee on the lanai while enjoying the beautiful view of the ocean below the exotic trees and landscaping of the plantation. Close to a good grocery store, less than 2 miles down the mountain and around the corner, and interesting shops and restaurants a couple miles farther on. We all love snorkeling, and some of the best snorkeling places on the Big Island were just a few miles away in both directions. Gretchen and Vic are delightful hosts! I HIGHLY recommend this rental.

happy find!

  • 5 of 5
We rented what we thought was a small house in Havi but were disappointed to discover that it was actually a renovated garage. I picked up a Hilo paper and found this place and called Gretchen. We went down that day and looked at it and couldn't believe our fortune. We moved in and stayed for the second week of our two week stay and were delighted. The home was spotless, the setting quiet, the proximity to the beaches was excellent and the hostess was a doll. We invited her and her friend down for a Mexican meal including tacos and taquitos served with mounds of guacamole made from all the avocados that found along the road to the house plus the ones that Gretchen left for us on our porch each day. We had a great stay and our only regret is that we didn't find this place first. If we ever have the opportunity to return to Hawaii, we will most assuredly go to the big island and will have this place at the top of our list for places to stay.
