About Mark Skolnick

My wife Stacy and I purchased this new cabin and completely upgraded the home one room and one floor at a time. We've tried to combine the mountain ambiance with some of the modern necessities we all look for in a vacation home. Appalachian Dream is our family's stress relief and provides an escape from the Florida heat. We wanted to show our 2 young children that there really are 4 seasons and each is as beautiful as the next. Appalachian Dream always brings our family and friends closer together. There are so many memories to be shared and I'm glad I have the opportunity to share my home with you and your family.

Mark Skolnick purchased this cabin in 2006

Why Mark Skolnick chose Boone

The cabin is centrally located between Boone, Blowing Rock, and Valle Crucis to the East and Sevin Devils, Banner Elk, and Linville to the West. The cabin is less than 15 minutes to virtually anywhere in the High Country.

The perfect mountain cabin getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We came for our anniversary weekend, and this cabin surely delivered! It was beautifully furnished, extremely clean and was equipped with everything we could possibly have needed and more. The kitchen was very well stocked with all utensils and tools, that we could have cooked all meals right there. There were several extra touches that were so nice as well. The kitchen was stocked with coffee and cream/sugar/add ins for our convenience! The mountain views were just gorgeous, and we enjoyed sitting in the rocking chairs on the deck each morning enjoying our coffee. The hot tub was such a relaxing treat, the perfect activity to come home to after exploring the area each the day. We didn't get a chance to enjoy the game room with pool table and ping pong, but plan to bring the kids next time and know that will be so much fun for everyone. Mark was extremely nice to work with! Professional, friendly, and checked in to make sure that everything went smoothly. We were so pleased that we promised each other to return to this cabin for future getaways! We can't wait!

I spent countless days and hours of my time looking through dozens of homes before coming across the Appalachian Dream. Before I inquired about this home, I read through each of the 40+ guest comments that were attached to this listing. Each was as great as the next. The cabin looked absolutely beautiful but I was concerned about the whole rental process. I submitted a request for Spring Break week and I immediately received a phone call from the owner, Mark, less than 5 minutes later. He was so gracious, understanding, and extremely helpful answering all my questions. There was never a lack of communication throughout the entire rental process. The cabin was absolutely amazing and exactly as it was portrayed on the website. The 3 levels were great and allowed our large group to spread out. The kids were beyond thrilled to have the basement to themselves, fully equipped with a ping pong / pool table, dart board, large flat screen television, and an amazing Jacuzzi. It was so nice to eat out on the balconies with the mountains in the background. The whole experience was far beyond what I expected, even down to the mints on the pillows. It's obvious that the owner knows how to make his guests a top priority. Even the location is less then 15 minutes to every major attraction. I would absolutely recommend this cabin to anybody looking for a beautiful, spotless vacation rental with a gracious and caring owner.

Hilton Head Island

Our 2014 Family Mountain Christmas

  • 5 of 5

Our home is beautiful Hilton Head Island, SC, so you might think why would we want to leave such a lovely place? For years, we have dreamed of a mountain Christmas with our family. In 2015, two of our grandson’s will graduate and be off to college. So it begins, the difficulty of gathering everyone in one place for the holidays. We decided the time was right to rent a mountain house for Christmas! My daughter suggested the VRBO website, so concentrating on Boone/ Blowing Rock, NC within a short time I chose five rentals, Appalachian Dream was at the top of my list. Our criteria was, number of bedrooms, a fireplace and a jacuzzi, which were all there, as well as, a downstairs playroom with a pool table, ping pong table and a large flat screen television. The house was the “whole package”. I completed the rental inquiry and Mark, the owner, responded quickly. I received, signed and returned the rental contract to Mark and the house was ours from Dec. 20th – Dec. 27th. The location is beautiful, a view of Grandfather Mountain, waterfalls and hiking trails. Eight arrived on Saturday, with our son, daughter-in-law and grandson joining us on Tuesday. One thing I truly loved was the huge dining room table. On Christmas Eve, I prepared our family meal in a kitchen that was equipped with everything I could possibly need, and we shared the meal at one table. After dinner, we gathered in the living room with the fireplace glowing and watched “Christmas Vacation”, prior to opening our gifts. It was a special evening for our family! The week included visits to the Mast General Store and other local sites. My husband, son-in-law and grandson had a great time hiking the Grandfather Mountain Perimeter Trail. Mark continued to be there for me during the whole process. His responses to my texts prior to the vacation were always immediate, in fact I feel like I have a new friend in Florida. He was just wonderful. During the week we had one minor issue with the fireplace and after one text to Mark, the fireplace was quickly repaired and we once again enjoyed a warm fire. This was our first time using VRBO and Mark’s positive attitude and help made it “almost perfect”, I say almost, because the snow I had hoped for did not materialize, but I am sure if Mark had been able to control the weather we would have had a “White Christmas”! Thank you Mark for sharing your beautiful home with our family.

Great Cabin /Idyllic Setting

  • 5 of 5

Appalachina drean was the ideal house for a loing wekend stay for our daughter's winter graduation from Appalachian State. The house was in great condition and even decorated for Christmas which added to the very comfortable ambience. The house has a first floor master with no steps from the front which worked wonderfully for my Father In Law who does not manage stairs well. The upstairs bedroom worked fine as a second master. Great loft with a single bed up there as well. The basement pool table/ping pong table and the outdoor hot tub were great for my daughters college friends to hang out on graduation night. Good views of Grandfather mopuntain fropm both decks! The kitchen is extremely well stocked and decor is all up to date and commofrtable. We are frequent visitors to North Carolina's High Country and found this house to be one of the best. Mark the owner was great to work with,. Made sure that ALL bases were covered and communicated very clearly so no suprises throughout the booking and subsequent stay. We look forward to the opportunity to stay at Appalachian Dream again in the near future.

Dream vacation at the "Appalachian Dream" Home

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed four nights at this lovely vacation home. Mark, the owner, was a pleasure to work with and the home was furnished very tastefully and comfortably .... very clean when we arrived.

We particularly enjoyed the cozy, gas fireplace in the comfortable living room with the large screen TV and the hot tub on the deck was so nice after a busy day enjoying the area.

The entire house is well appointed with everything you could possibly need for an enjoyable vacation.

It is evident the owners have put a lot of thought and effort in providing their renters with a great stay.

One thing we especially appreciated was the great tasting water straight from the tap..we often feel the need to buy bottled water during our vacations..This was some of the best water we have tasted!

We cooked at the rental for most of our stay and the kitchen is well stocked with everything you might need..! The Weber gas grill on the deck worked perfectly...the nearby Lowes grocery store is wonderful for shopping.

The rental is in a great location ..close to Boone and Banner Elk..the charming town of Blowing Rock is nearby as well.

It is always nice to book a rental which turns out to be "as advertised" and also so very nice to work with a friendly, communicative owner... we highly recommend this rental for a most enjoyable vacation.!!
