Views! Views! Views! Enjoy spectacular panoramic views of the blue Caribbean Sea from the oversized 3rd floor balcony of this spacious 1600 sq. foot beachfront penthouse condominium. Watch from above as turtles pop their heads up for a breath and stingrays glide by in Half Moon Bay. Or better yet, grab your mask and snorkel and join them!
Snorkeling and diving are within easy access. Enter Half Moon Bay right off the beach to see turtles, stingrays, coral and fish. A short walk to the north will take you to the calm, clear water of Yal Ku Lagoon with its large variety of colorful fish. And a short walk to the south you will find Akumal Bay where seeing a turtle is just about guaranteed, along with squid, parrot fish and eagle rays.
There are three dive centers in Akumal, one located right on Half Moon Bay, all with PADI-certified instructors offering sensational reef and cenote cavern dives.
Of course relaxing on the white sandy beach is always another inviting option. Whether you prefer the sun or the shade of a palm tree or palapa, there are plenty of lounge chairs to go around.
Comfortably accommodating up to 8 adults, this unit offers 3 bedrooms, each with its own connecting full bathroom. There is a king sized bed in the master bedroom with a view of the sea. The second bedroom has a full and two twins (bunk beds). And the third bedroom has a queen sized bed, with separate entry from the main condo - which makes it perfect for two couples traveling together who want a little privacy. This third bedroom has its own kitchenette with sink, mini fridge, microwave, blender, coffee maker, dishes and utensils, TV and DVD player, and a patio area which overlooks the lush green jungle and magnificent sunsets. Take just a few steps up to the rooftop seating area for better views of the bay, the sunsets, or star-gazing at night.
This 3 bedroom condo can be rented as a 2 bedroom condo with a lockout to the third bedroom.
The living area of the main unit is very roomy with a V-shaped couch facing the sliding glass doors which open to the balcony overlooking the sea. A large dining table seats eight. There is a fully equipped kitchen complete with large refrigerator, microwave, 4-burner gas stove/oven, coffee maker, toaster, blender, quality pots & pans, knives, utensils, serve ware, dishes and glasses. Daily maid service and fresh drinking water are provided. There are ceiling fans throughout and air conditioning is available in all bedrooms, though most of the time the gentle breezes from the sea make air conditioning unnecessary.

Centrally located on Half Moon Bay, it is just a short walk to nearby restaurants, including the world famous La Buena Vida swing bar and restaurant, for a rollicking good time. An equal distance in the other direction will take you to La Lunita where you can bury your toes in the sand while enjoying a romantic candlelight dinner.
There is a small market located across the street from the condo for ice, milk, eggs or other last minute items…like ice cream! The nearby village of Akumal also has two grocery stores with a larger selection of items, restaurants, gift shops, farmers market, art studio, jewelry store, and yoga center.
For the adventurous, there are many excursions within minutes from the condo including the magnificent Mayan ruins of Tulum, the caves of Aktun Chen, many fresh water cenotes, Xel-Ha and Xcaret theme parks, Playacar golf course. Fifth Avenue in Playa del Carmen lights up and comes alive at night with its endless shops and restaurants.
May through September is turtle nesting and hatching season and many green and loggerhead turtles return to the beaches of Half Moon Bay to bury their eggs in the sand to incubate for about 60 days. And if you’re lucky, you may also see hundreds of hatchlings making their way to the sea. To observe this act of nature is an absolutely amazing and unforgettable experience.

and quiet. The bay has some nice snorkelling on the reef. Yal ku lagoon is about 800 metres further up the road and well worth a visit. Akumal Bay is about 1km back to the highway and also well worth visiting. Quite different to half moon. Big turtles there.Before we went we asked Don a whole load of questions and he was very quick, helpful and honest in all his answers. We were really impressed by his willingness to help us find the right place for us rather than just trying to get us to come to his condo. He also gave us a whole load of advice about places to eat, things to do, where to get into the bay to catch the reef, how to get there and the like and it was all excellent. Don and Cheryl really want you to enjoy your stay and go the extra mile to make it happen.The Playa Paradise management team in charge of running the Condo did an excellent job. Their office is just 50 yards down the road and they showed us round very efficiently and dealt with the issues we had very quickly and pleasantly. (We locked ourselves out, had a problem with the safe when I think the batteries went low and reported a cracked toilet handle which was replaced in less than an hour). The maid service for the condo was also excellent.All in all this was a great condo with great facilities, fantastic location, excellent service,and a real feel about it that the owners really cared that we enjoyed our holiday and wanted to make it as comfortable and easy as possible for us.
Please help us improve our service. The one thing that we were not told when you showed us round was that one of the fans in the lounge is switched on and off behind the television. We found the switch - but we had to search for 10 minutes before we did! You may want to point this out to people when you are showing them round.
A great place in a great location. Some days we had the beachfront to ourselves. This compared to the beach in Akumal where you were lucky to get a square yard of beach! The owners have thought of everything that guests might need while there and more. Daily maid service was great and we also enjoyed virtually exclusive access to the rooftop to enjoy a nice sunset.
A few more highlights
- a 5 minute walk on the beach to La Buena Vista restaurant
- a nice little home based restaurant across the way for some great local Mexican food
- Ask the owner of the condo. She was very helpful in providing tips and advice and after trying some of her suggestions they proved very accurate! For example, the owner suggested that we dive with Natalie and Ivan, we did and Ivan was fantasic.
- It is a 1km walk into the resort area of Akumal. If you can do it, it is a nice walk but pack a pair of running shoes.
- The few souvineer shops that are there are pricey but they are open to negotiation. Groceries there are expensive, but convenient.
- if you are leaving Half Moon Bay or Akumal, taxis can be quite expensive. Generally $20 to $30 US one way to go almost anywhere. Next time I would rent a car.
- don't stop at Wal-Mart in Playa for groceries. We were disappointed with the selection of food and drinks.
Overall a fantastic experience and we hope to return.
We stayed for a week in Akumal at the condo and used all 3 bedrooms for 5 adults. There was plenty of space with everyone having their own bathroom. We also appreciated the daily maid service, which minimized any conflicts about cleaning up communal space like the kitchen. (We did tip daily for her awesome help!)
The unit faces the beach and you really can hear the waves from any room in the condo. The beach is a bit rocky for swimming, but walk or drive down to the main Akumal bay for a sandy shore and fantastic snorkeling with turtles and rays. The bay in front of the condo was a bit rougher for snorkelling since it is more exposed, but worked well for a quick dip in the water when sunbathing. (Bring water shoes if you have them to avoid hurting tender feet on the rocks / coral along the shore!)
Buena Vida is a very close walk and had some of the best food on our trip. Not much more than the "local" restaurants with simple food in town, large portions, and very fresh tasting - more vegetables than we could find other places. The walk to town takes a bit longer and can be sunny depending on the time of day, so we appreciated a car especially with several family members being over 60. You could get by without a car but it's handy for running to the larger grocery store and going back and forth to town.
Stayed a week at this fantastic 3rd floor, bay facing condo 2/22/14 - 3/1/14. If a large balcony with a full wall of sliding glass doors with screens to allow falling asleep to and waking to the sound of the surf lapping 3 floors below is your idea of a great condo, then this is the one! Great view, balcony, and close to La Buena Vida. Also, own white sand beach with palapas and palm trees. There couldn't be a better condo on HMB.
From the moment we opened the door to our last minute before departing, we just relaxed. The view from the unit is fantastic--sunrise on the beach or balcony and sunsets up top with a glass of wine--Sweet!
We found the owners to be very informative, helpful, responsive, and very easy to communicate with. The accommodations were wonderful and the unit was one of the best regarding provisions--the only thing we needed was a cooler which we obtained at the local store. Cleaning services were exceptional and all personnel were very pleasant!
All the restaurants seemed to be reasonably prices and the food very good--each has it's unique flavor. Akumal beach was the best for snorkeling (turtles, rays, & many fish) and a long beach walk, though we enjoyed the peace and quiet of the beach right outside the condo where the majority of our beach time was spent.
La Buena Vida--good food, great prices, and an unforgettable seat overlooking the water. Rarely did we miss happy hour from 5-7 (half prices off all drinks) and yes, we did order each of their specialty drinks over the time of our stay--fantastic!
If you are looking for a location that is peaceful with a beautiful view and walking distance along the beach to a wonderful beach bar and restaurant, then you've found it. The owners were fantastic with no "surprises" except that the unit, location, and view were even better than we anticipated! Thanks for a wonderful stay!
We had an amazing time staying at Playa Blanca #8. The condo was beautiful,clean, fully equipped and literally right on the beach. I personally loved hanging out on the roof top where I had 360 degree views and complete privacy. Akumal itself was lovely. Small and fairly quiet but perfect for our family. We found ourselves going to Turtle Bay Café frequently for their coffee and breakfast, and La Buena Vida (even more frequently!) for their happy hour (a 3 minute walk from the condo) If I had to say anything remotely negative it would be that I would not recommend the condo for families with young children as the balcony railing is such that it would be easy for a small child to fall through. The condo does provide a safety gate but that still means the child can not go
on the balcony at all. Other than that, Thank you so much for letting us share in your little piece of paradise.
