This was our second stay at the Bungalow...both time for a recovery from surgery. I love everything about this place...it's sunny, roomy, comfy, fun and in a great location! I always feel safe here, and the house is close to sooo many great things within walking distance (food, shopping, cool neighborhood). The upper bedroom is like salve to a cut with it's sunshine, comfy bed and coziness. The kitchen is large and well stocked, the back deck a delight to sit on! The house is always clean and uncluttered. Just enough of everything. Judy is an absolute delight to work with and to get to know. We also spent one night at another of her rentals (the studio) which was also wonderful. You won't be disappointed in the Bungalow....I like to think of it as my California home!

The house was clean, with plenty of space and well lit rooms. The convenience to the business district of Temescal and to the Bart made it ideal for us, and we were within 5 minutes of our daughter.
However, I did expect more in comfort and feng shui for what I was paying per week. Some windows were drafty, not air-tight, resulting in sounds from street being louder. I put a pillow against the gap at night to block the cool night air.
The window treatments could have been more welcoming, and the leather couches have long seen their day. Two burners on the stove did not light without matches, and a chair on the deck was falling apart.
As I already stated, I have higher expectations for the price.

Owner's Response: yes many guests really appreciate how close the home is to College Ave, BART and Frog Park, a really great park for young children. We have checked the stove and found the pilot light out and re lit it. Some guests really appreciate the Wedgewood Stove. We have repaired the chair on the deck, thank you for letting us know about it!

Charming, Comfortable Accommodations in Good Location

We went to Oakland with my sister and brother-in-law for an early Christmas with our daughter and boyfriend. This was a perfect alternative to a hotel, and so well priced. The house is charming, comfortable, and cheerful, easy walking distance to College Avenue restaurants and shops. Easy location right off highway. When we first drove up and saw that it was on a busy corner, we were worried it would be noisy, but nighttime was very quiet - no problem at all. Having a garage was also a huge perk, and we never had a problem parking the second vehicle right in front or on the side of the house. The weather wasn't warm enough to sit out on the cute deck for morning coffee, but we will definitely return in the future to try it out.

Great Stay!

Our family of 5 spent 5 nights at the bungalow. We enjoyed having the extra space (as opposed to a hotel stay.) The house was exactly as pictured, easy to get to, convenient to BART and groceries. The kitchen was a joy to cook in - great gas range and oven! Free Wi-Fi a plus. Enjoyed the book selection on the original built-in bookshelves either side of the fireplace. There was a stack of "visitor info" available, including BART information, which we appreciated. Laundry was clean and easy to use. Recommend eating at Burma Superstar (restaurant) within easy walking distance, and visiting Market Hall (gourmet grocery) early in your stay - we didn't "discover" until our last day. Fun shops on College Avenue to browse.

Owner's Response: Thanks Lori!
yes there are numerous high quality restaurants within walking distance of this home, not only College Avenue but Temescal and Piedmont Ave( which is a little farther) as well. Many of my favorites I have listed for the guests. a nice neighborhood to walk in also!

Rockridge for the Holidays

  • 3 of 5

We enjoyed staying in Rockridge for the Holidays as it was close to our daughter. The house was spacious for the 3 of us, and the beds comfortable. It was a little worse for wear, however, needing repairs like lights not working and furniture broken, and it was located on an extremely busy street. The shower head was set for people much shorter than our family.
When we arrived to find two locks on the front door but only one key in the lockbox, it took awhile to get a call back from the owner - but she was pleasant and directed us to a cleverly hidden spare set of keys. I liked having that contingency.
It was walkable to town and the Bart. And the playground was very close.
Owner's Response: Hi Barbara,
I'm glad you enjoyed your stay during the holidays. One of the great things about the home is its proximity to BART, College Ave, Frog Park. and its convenience to other areas of Oakland I was so sorry not be available immediately as I was away for the holidays and out of cell phone range but I was glad to be able to get back to you the day of your arrival when I got to a land line. We always appreciate hearing about needed repairs. In this case the screws on the chair just needed tightening and the lamp needed to be plugged in. I don't know of any other repair needs at this time in the home. Many guests mention that when inside the home or on the back deck they don't notice that the home is on a busy street.
