Clean, Contemporary, Cozy and Fun
My friend and I rented this cabin for a girl's week of fun. Renting this cabin was the first time that I have used HomeAway to find a vacation rental, and I was impressed by the way that Connie answered all of my questions without batting an eye. I knew before we even arrived that this was going to be a clean and professionally managed property.
First off, the property is gorgeous. There are four cabins on the property, each with their own fire pit, picnic table, grill and outdoor patio. There is enough space and trees between cabins that you really feel as though you are on your own private island without being so remote and "in the woods" so as to be creepy (my friend and I are both city girls-- this cabin was the perfect blend for us!).
The interior of the cabin was immaculate. By immaculate, I mean IMMACULATE. I have done weekend cabin rentals before at other properties and always been disappointed by the state of the interior. Not only was the cabin recently redone from head-to-toe, it was spotless. Since my friend and I were there for a week we got to see how the turnover process was managed for the other cabins. We got to meet the professional cleaning staff and saw first-hand the attention to detail that she and the owners put in making sure that the cabins are fully maintained, cleaned and aired out before a new tenant arrives.
The lake is cute and is extremely quiet during the week, with a bit more motorized boat/jet ski traffic on weekends. My friend and I took the on-site rowboats out for a few "turns about the lake" so as to enjoy the scenery. We saw a number of fish, turtles and even a heron on the property. The online pictures do not do the property justice-- the lake and setting are cute and peaceful.
We thoroughly enjoyed spending time in and around the town of Paw Paw. We are both "foodies" and enjoyed the number of area restaurants that specialized in seasonal menus and locally grown food (Paw Paw is located in Michigan's fruit and vegetable-growing area). We were also impressed the the area's growing micro-brew, gastropub, and wine scene. Everyone that we met in Paw Paw seemed genuinely nice, and we found that we didn't need to stray too far to enjoy movies, antiquing, farm stands and wine/beer tasting. Paw Paw is located near enough to Lake Michigan to make for easy day trips without the headache of dealing with tons of tourists.
If I could give Hidden Peninsula Cottages 10 stars, I would!
