Kyoto Cottage Rental Photos and Description
Efficiency with loft, private bath, laundry - Perfect for couples or families
Enjoy Kyoto from this holiday rental, just 20 minutes from downtown by bike. Easy access to buses, subway, and trains. Suisenkyo is an affordable and quaint cottage on the Kamo river that sleeps 2-4.
- Conveniently located near major transportation, you can easily get to all the major sightseeing areas of Kyoto. The Kamo Cottage is also walking distance to the subway. Beautiful cottage with wood floors, comfortable double thick futons in the sleeping loft, 1F queen bed, a full kitchenette, bath, shower, TV, wireless Internet (Wifi), and everything you need. Shopping, groceries, restaurants, and convenience stores are only minutes away.
Access: Please be aware that the location of this property makes it unique and special, but that it is not 'barrier free' access. We can help you to arrange taxis and other services.
The entrance from the riverside via stairs may be difficult for regular daily use of strollers.
Upon arrival we will be happy to assist you with suitcases, children, etc. Please arrange a convenient time with us in advance.
Mike and Yuko’s Kamo Cottage is ideally located for those wanting to explore Kyoto. The river view and self-contained accommodations make for a great base. Bus and subway stops are located within easy walking distance and provide easy access to the Shinkansen, local trains or the inner city. Nearby community shopping coupled with the cottage’s cooking facilities provide an easy way to keep your food bill under control while living like a native.
Mike and Yuko are both knowledgeable and gracious. Both speaking English is a special bonus when looking getting around or locating a place to purchase specialty items. We would recommend the Kamo Cottage for anyone, especially adventurous travelers, looking for a quiet refuge in Kyoto.
We apologize to you, for not writing this review longer ago and that we are doing this barely now. But we really want to let everyone know how wonderful we felt during the time we spent at your cottage. From the first moment we found your place it was dreamy for us. Where else could you feel peaceful and free if not as close as possible to the nature. We realize that if we were to book a hotel or some more centered place, wouldn't have been able to experience everything we did. We wouldn't find out that in Kyoto's mornings people love jogging or exercising on the sides of the river. That at the noon they enjoy relaxing or taking a nap on a bench at the shadow of a tree and even under the bridges listening to the murmur of the river. And when the night falls romance surrounds you from all the places. Couples are being intimate and share their love at the relaxing sound of students musical instruments, that are practicing each day for becoming better. Other groups giggling while they're playing with fireworks. Everyone says " hello" to you with open heart and gladness in their voices. We really felt magnificent during our stay in Kyoto at your place. We are grateful to you for giving us the chance to experience this moments. Do we recommend your place !? We definitely do ! We've been telling all our friends and all the people we know, about how beautiful the time in Kyoto was for us. How cozy we felt at your place and how wonderful it was that you could just get outside, sit on the side of the river and interact with the nature. No cars, no traffic noises, just pure serenity .
Thank you Yuko and Mike for your hospitality and please forgive us for not interacting with you as much as your other guests, but as you have noticed we were always outside from the morning until night exploring Kyoto and surroundings. Thank you for your help every time we needed, and for the maps you provided in the room, they were many times helpful. Also for providing us with the bikes . It made it so easy for us to make it quick for seeing the shows of the Tanabata festival, to visit Kyoto and some of the temples ( are still many left to be seen) . We hope to see you again and we would love to Visit Kyoto sometime in the spring, since Kamo river looks amazing with all the bloomed trees.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much, and we are always very happy and grateful when someone has a good time in our city. You pointed out the most important points for us about living in this beautiful area as well. It is indeed something special to be so near to everything but at the same time, to have the sound of the river as you drift off to sleep.
We want to offer our guests the best of both worlds: privacy and comfort, with all the support you need to enjoy your time here.
And the people walking dogs, having picnics, and jogging down the riverside are right outside the door! If you happen to be an early riser it is a wonderful place to be for your morning stroll. Also the shops are just walking distance down past the first bridge. It was a pleasure to share our knowledge and information about the highlights of Kyoto with you, and certainly would love to see you again sometime.
Happy travels and all the best with everything!
I love staying in apartments when traveling - I can visit local shops and restaurants and get a real sense of the neighbourhood.
I have a few criteria I use to select apartments:
* We like to have a sitting area. It can be an studio apartment but should at least have a table that we can sit at.
* We may not actually cook but we want the option to make a meal if we want to so it should have a kitchen. We usually eat breakfast 'at home' in the morning so like to be able to make coffee and have a fridge to keep milk and beer cold.
* It should have shops and restaurants nearby. We don't want to have to go into town to grab a bite - we want to eat in the neighbourhood.
* It should be near public transportation. We like being out in regular neighbourhoods but still want to be able to get to the sights. Bus, train, or subway should be within a 15 minute walk.
* It should have wifi internet connection.
Kamo Cottage easily met all of these criteria plus Mike and Yuko provided any information we wanted about Kyoto and the surrounding area. We used the bikes provided to meander through small streets to all the sights and were easily able to get to the subway to explore further afield.
It was quiet, comfortable and perfect.

Owner's Response: Thank you again, it was nice to meet you and share some stories. Good luck with your future travels and I hope that we have a chance to meet again in the future if you come to Kyoto again. We also appreciated your helpful comments and as usual, we try to update our rental in order to better serve our guests.
We had a good experience booking with Mike. Everything was straightforward, including payment by Paypal. Mike sent detailed travel instructions ahead of time, and we were pleased with the accommodation, which whilst being bijou provides everything you need (we stayed 11 days).
As our daughter is living in Kyoto we did not need to call on Mike's assistance much, but I feel sure he would have been ready and willing if required.
Recommended for independent travellers, and anyone wanting to absorb the flavour of Kyoto.
This cottage located right on the riverfront in Kyoto is a fantastic place to be based out of for any visit to the Kansai region of Japan. It is operated by a lovely family whose home is just in front of the cottage. The price is a bargain for the space alone, but when you add in the 2 complimentary bicycles, a little kitchen, and Mike & Yuko's friendly nature and willingness to give you sightseeing advice (who both speak perfect english - huge plus), this place becomes a true gem. We would highly recommend this space for a couple traveling to Japan (could even squeeze in 4 people).

Owner's Response: Thank you so much, and it was great to meet you, too. We are so happy that you finished your Asia tour in Kyoto! It is always a pleasure to help adventurous travelers discover our city, and we loved hearing your stories and recommendations about the places you have visited. You also did very well in Kyoto, covering the city in the bikes as well as combining day-trips to Nara, Osaka, and Hiroshima using your rail pass.
Since you were here we have done some maintenance and beautification work in the garden, and we replaced the blinds on the South-facing windows. If you or your family/friends make it here again we hope that you find it keeps improving.
You just missed the blooming of the plum trees, but I'm glad that you enjoyed the complimentary plum wine (ume-shu) that we made from the fruit of the tree next to the house! We'd love to host you again for the spring or fall season, see you again sometime, and thank you for the positive review.
My husband & I stayed here in 2008 and have the fondest of memories. Taxi transportation from Kyoto station was very reliable and although we forgot to pack Mike's detailed directions (including Japanese phrases), the driver brought us right to the walkway of the house!!! The soothing sounds of Kamo River lulled us to sleep each night. Everything we needed was within walking distance i.e. Grocery store, train station etc. Mike & Yuko were very accomodating...even when our friends from Kyoto called the police in a frantic effort to make sure we arrived safely!!! Our deep apologies again. We would have no hesitation in recommending this property to others. Our stay here made our 2nd honeymoon one we will never forget!!! Thank you Mike & Yuko!!!
