We are a family of four who moved to the house next door in 1970, with a 3 month old and a 20 month old. When we had a small fire in 1976 we stayed in our current house with our kind neighbors until the house was repaired. They told us they were going to sell it...and we said...'we'll buy it'! We did in 1977. We have updated many areas of the house through the years. Our children are grown and have children of their own...but they still return to our family home for celebrations and holidays. It is still furnished just the way it was-country furniture, Quimper and art we have collected. We have entrusted our home to many families in the summer who have shown the same respect they would for their own homes. We have received beautiful letters thanking us for opening our home. While this house is new to VRBO, we are not--we have rented homes in Maine-and been pleased with what we found.

Elizabeth purchased this house in 1977

This is our family home and the community that supported us while raising our children. We love Riverside, Old Greenwich and Greenwich and gather with our family for vacations and holidays.

Walking distance to the Metro North railroad station

10 mins from the local beach-playground for children under 6 across the street

Wonderful Home

  • 5 of 5
My family and I had a wonderful stay in June 2010 at this beautiful Old Greenwich home. The house was so comfortable and had everything that we needed for my husband, myself, my mother and our three children. The bedrooms were great with comfortable beds and ample closet space. The kitchen was perfect and the family room was well-used by all of us. The gardens were in full bloom during our stay - a true bonus! The owners were so nice and made sure that we had everything that we needed to make our stay enjoyable. The location was also perfect for us. Easy access to Greenwich, the thruway, and MetroNorth. I am hopeful that we will stay here again on our next trip to the northeast!

Owner's Response: This lovely family from Texas left our home in beautiful condition, and they are welcome back in the future. They had sent us pictures of their family in advance, and truly made an effort to make us as comfortable about them--it was a perfect partnership for a sentimental trip back to an area where they had grown up...Many thanks to them.

Wonderful Home

My family and I spent Thanksgiving week in this wonderful home a little north of Greenwich. What a beautiful and comfortable setting for Thanksgiving. The house is quite large and perfect for a family gathering yet it is cozy and intimate. It is meticulously clean and well cared for and has the modern comforts. There is a lovely garden in the back that must be charming duiing the summer months and a lot of nice access to the outdoors. The home is well situated in a quiet community close to the beach. It is walking distance to the train station and close to shopping and restaurants. We would live to stay there again.

Owner's Response: We felt fortunate to have such responsible and appreciative guests in our family home over Thanksgiving. I can barely remember where the roasting pan is--and they seemed to fare well and found everything they needed to have a big gathering--bravo for this kind family.

Wonderful comfortable house with lots of character

  • 5 of 5
We just spent our Xmas week in this house. You know what it's like to be away from home for Xmas -- can seem cold and awkward (had a job talking my husband into coming in fact, as he likes to be home for Xmas, and even he was pleased) -- but this was just perfect. A true HOME AWAY FROM HOME. The house was warm. Full of interesting antiques and curios. Personal items. And lots of interesting paintings, etc. My brother and myself (age 60 and 50) with our partners and two teenaged children each had a very comfortable time here. There was enough space to have our mother with us for a night or two as well. So much space that we didn't get underfoot. It's the type of house you can nap in and not be bothered by the other 7 people (!!!) in the house. And the kitchen is better equipped than mine -- we counted 5 cheese slicers!!! And then there is the landlady!! Thougthful to exception. She got a new table cloth for our Xmas table, and then got another one that was even nicer for us. When my sister-in-law sat down to our Xmas dinner table she said, 'This is better, more festive, than I could have done in my own house'. The landlady even said we could use her winter jacket from the cupboard which came in very handy when the snow fall started!!!They had December magazines with Xmas recipes in them, which helped when our turkey started going funny. We didn't get chance to see much of the surroundings because of it being Xmas and winter and a couple of trips into NYC, but did manage a walk on Greenwich Point after the snowfall (it's only open to the public in the winter months and was gorgeous!!!). Also a local walk or two. Lovely lake nearby -- our kids from Scotland and Texas - had a great time being able to walk on the ice and wished we had ice skates!! And the neighbourhood!! Stunnning houses and gorgeous Xmas decorations all about. A lovely church across the road with it's lovely ringing bells. And a local caretaker to deal with any issues we might have had, who was very friendly and willing, and we did need him to snowblow out our car, in fact, when the 20 inches fell!!! Cannot recommend it more.

Owner's Response: I must say that changing my schedule to show our home to the guests interested in Christmas week (in October) truly made it easy to open up our home to them. I could sense their true responsiveness--hence leaving our Christmas decorations for them...and making sure they had the proper Christmas tablecloth was an act of friendship that worked in both our favors! They felt as if our house was their home and had a meaningful Christmas celebration with their 90 year old mother--with grandchildren. What could be better for us and for them! We both thanked one another at just about the same time! Trusting tenants is quite possible I believe. Thanks to them - and our Australian guests as well.

Charming family home

  • 5 of 5
Well-equipped and lovely family home in leafy suburban setting. The thoughtful owner has provided everything to make one feel at home. We have three children who all enjoyed the garden and the many toys provided by the owner. The playground across the road was also a great plus. My husband and I appreciated the well set-up home office and comfortable furnishings. The decor was very tasteful and the owner had many interesting paintings and objets d'art. Old Greenwich has a beautiful park and beach and an excellent bike path for families. There are also numerous design shops and excellent cafes/restaurants with 15 mins drive. New Canaan, Rowayton and South Norwalk are also worth a visit. Good food choices in the local area are include Aux Delices, Plum's, and The Drawing Room for day and Greenwich Tavern, Beach House Cafe and Valbella for evening.
