'Rockhedge', a Beautifully Restored 1921 Historic Home!

Rockhedge is a beautiful and peaceful space for a family retreat. We stayed four days in January with our children and grandchildren and spent our time preparing meals and eating in the spacious, expertly-equipped kitchen, gathered in a circle around the fire, reading, laughing, playing with the kids and just Being together. One highlight was our 4 year old grandson spotting his first elk from the dining room windows. FIVE bulls entertained us with lock-horns play the first day and herd of females and spikes settled in over the next two days. The home is both cozy and spacious and comes with many thoughtful "extras" like robes, a pantry with staples, spices and condiments, ample woodpile, washer/dryer, Pack 'n Play and a music system. We especially appreciated the cookbook, book, art and slipper collections! We didn't meet Mark and Durango in person, but their fine aesthetic sense, attention to comfortable details and gracious hospitality permeate Rockhedge. We felt truly "at home" and plan to return.

Rockhedge was even more lovely than the pictures show. The light coming in through all the windows was just beautiful. It is obvious the amount of thought that went into the renovation, as well as the preparation for guests. Often with rental properties the cupboards are bare and there are just basic plates, utensils, pots / pans......no so here. This kitchen had wonderful glassware / dishware / cutlery and lots of the basics (spices, flour, sugar, coffee beans, plastic baggies, coffee filters, laundry detergent) which made us feel like we were at home! Lots of towels, soaps, and many nice comfy robes to choose from! We felt completely comfortable in this home for the week we were there. There is not one single thing I would change or say was missing.

The location is great - - easy to get to town. We planned to walk into town, but somehow after 5-6 hrs hiking each day we always drove! Easy access to RMNP. Had a big male elk in the backyard two days in a row.

A friend and I recently had the pleasure of calling Rockhedge "home" for a week. What a pleasure it was! It was truly a home and not just a rental. It was totally cleaned and completely well stocked and maintained. You can believe the photos and description on the website, no deceptions here at all. Durango is a fabulous host! She makes you feel right at home and thrilled to have you! The ambience of the living room at night with the fireplace lit is picture postcard perfect. I totally recommend this lovely home to anyone coming to Estes Park. The location is perfect. Close enough to town for convenience and yet located such that you have privacy. I recommend eating at the Baldpate Inn out on Highway 7 going towards the Longs Peak area. Thank you, Durango, for offering such a special place as "Rockhedge".
