This is a great property, very close to beach & pretty close to LA, but you'd never know it! Very quiet neighborhood, lovely home with all the amenities. Great kitchen, huge fridge, large patio & comfy beds. The TV area is quite relaxing & features a large screen tv with all the bells & whistles. Unfortunately, our family is always on the move doing various activities, so I didn't get to sit & read & relax as much as I would have liked. The patio & couches lend themselves to relaxing reading sessions. We took 2 meals at the local fish & chips cafe on Seaward, riding our bicycles the 1/4 mile. They WILL grill their fish at your request...a huge feature if you're trying to avoid fried foods. We also did the 6 mile round trip to the pier, where there was a Sunday craft fair at the towering hotel. Very easy ride on a bright sunny day, with a beautiful breeze. This house is a great base from which to work from...just allow yourselves time to enjoy it!
I had a wonderful 2 week get away. The house is very clean and and a very easy short walk to the beach. 5 min drive to downtown Ventura with many fun shops and resturants. I highly recommend this cottage.
My husband and I just spent a week in this wonderful cottage. You could not beat the location…….just a few houses from the beach. The cottage was comfortable, spacious, and clean. The kitchen looked recently updated with stainless steel appliances and had plenty of granite counter space. In addition to the dining table which seated 6, there were 3 bar stools along the kitchen counter. The kitchen was well-equipped and had everything we needed. We loved the layout of the kitchen, dining area, and family room – it was open concept and the large windows along the back of the house allowed for plenty of light. There’s a large patio out back with a table and chairs along with a grill which we used one night. There was ample closet space in both bedrooms and I appreciated the extra hangers. The bathroom, although not large in square footage, had a big vanity for personal belongings. The Pierpont area is about 3 miles from downtown Ventura and parking is no issue around Main Street. Downtown has plenty of restaurants to choose from; we enjoyed Lure Fish House and Paradise Pantry. In addition to biking, surfing, and beaching, there is a fantastic yoga studio in town called Jai Rhythm Yoga. The energy was great as well as the teachers; guaranteed you will get a great workout. We would not hesitate to stay in this cottage again. The owner, Leslie, was easy to work with and responsive.
My husband and I stayed here for the month of April, and we couldn't have had a better experience. The cottage's layout made it feel quite spacious--there's a nice flow of space from the open (and recently remodeled) kitchen to the living/dining room area. It was perfect for the two of us, but I'm sure it could accommodate more quite comfortably. We also appreciated the classic 1950's mid-mod design that includes beamed ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows looking out onto the lovely patio. Small windows and skylights in the rest of the house let in lots of light while giving a feeling of privacy. The location of the cottage was ideal as well, since we were only half a block from the gorgeous beach. Soon after our arrival we slipped into the laid-back routine of morning strolls on the beach, late afternoon drinks on the patio, and evenings spent watching the surfers as the sun set over the ocean. Perhaps weekends and the summer months are a little more crowded, but other than a few locals walking their dogs or fishing, we felt that we had the beach to ourselves.
Ventura itself has many good restaurants (two of our favorites were Andria's and the Greek restaurant in the Harbor Village), and it's only a 45-minute drive along the Pacific Coast Highway down to Malibu or up the 101 to Santa Barbara. We had a marvelous time on a whale watching tour, booked through Channel Island Packers, where we saw 10 humpbacks and dozens of dolphins; we also spent a few days away from the cottage touring Central Coast wineries near Paso Robles and Buellton.
Leslie, the owner, was very helpful and prompt in answering our questions. I'd highly recommend the California Coastal Cottage for anyone who wants a beach vacation without the crowds. We enjoyed our stay here so much that we've already booked another month for next year!
We enjoyed our long stay at the "California Coastal Cottage" in 2011 so much, that we came back in 2012 for an even longer stay. Our second stay was even better than the first, because the kitchen and other aspects of the cottage were considerably updated. The kitchen has a new refrigerator, stove, dishwasher, countertops, and cabinets. In addition, the TV is new, and central heating has replaced the space heaters.
The amenities are as described. Of course, the best amenity is the proximity to the ocean, which is just seven or eight cottages away. At night you can hear the roar of the waves as they crash on the beach.
The layout of the cottage is the best we have seen for a two-bedroom cottage in the Pierpont Beach area. The kitchen, dining area, and living room are in an open floor plan, which gives a feeling of spaciousness. They look out via a wall of glass on the brick back yard, which has patio furniture and plenty of sun..
The owners have kept the cottage very clean and in good repair. They have provided good service the few times that it was needed. The cottage is within walking distance of a number of restaurants and a shopping area. Historic downtown Ventura is less than 10 minutes away by car. Our enjoyable stays in the cottage have persuaded us to sign up for yet a third visit.
The coastal cottage was exactly as described. In fact, my sister had visited the cottage before I made my reservation - before the renovations. When she came to visit me she was shocked by all the positive changes. Basically the kitchen and bathroom are brand new and so is all the furniture - except in the guest room.
It is a peaceful and quiet location with nice, unobtrusive neighbors. A walking beach is only 7 houses away. I know the area very well as my sister lives only about 40 miles south so I wasn't there for sightseeing.
The fish and chips restaurant at the Pierpont beach is fabulous (try the onion rings - some of the best I've ever had) and the burgers at Dukes are delicious.
My hobby is estate sales and flea markets. I would highly recommend the free Swap Meet at the Fairgrounds every Wednesday. Found lots of fun, inespensive treasures. The Farmers Market at the Mall has wonderful vendors for delicious bakery and grocery items.
My only disappointment was that the cleaners did an awful job. Luckily I wasn't having any company for a few weeks.
The owners are very helpful and always accessible. They also have a local property manager should you need immediate assistance - I didn't.
I would definitely recommend this cottage and hope to return sometime next year. You will be very pleased if you rent this cottage.
