ONE OF A KIND HIGH END ADVENTURE CABIN ABOVE SILVERTON, CO AT 11,000' ELEVATION

Silverton Cabin Rental Photos and Description

3 bedrooms, 2 full baths, sleeps 6 privately

Gorgeous, private, off the grid cabin sits above the quaint mining town of Silverton, CO at 11,000 feet elevation. Accessible year round by a 4X4 vehicle (rental additional) - this cabin is at the epicenter of adventure activity. Extreme skiing is just 4 miles away at Silverton Mountain Ski Area. Durango Mountain Resort is only 25 miles away, with Durango, CO another 25 miles. Telluride is 80 miles away. The Animas River, known for its world class fishing and whitewater rafting, runs through Silverton. Don't forget the Durango/Silverton Narrow Gauge train which runs from May through September. Nestled in the midst of the San Juan Mountains this property has stunning views of Storm King and Silverton Peaks. This eco friendly cabin is at the height of spectacular. Completely off the grid, it is solar powered, heated with 2 wood burning stoves and has a flushing toilet, and showers. For those who want back country comfort and privacy, this is your haven!

Location specifics: The cabin is across the Animas River on Blair Mountain. Take a 4X4, unmaintained county road up 2.5 miles. You will be between the Swansee and Blair Gulches. Because the road is not maintained, EMS/Fire services are not available for this cabin.

For those who enjoy adventure!: This experience is for those who enjoy an adventure! While we work extra hard to make your experience seamless, we cannot guarantee that you won't have to do a little to pull this off. In winter, especially, fires need to be maintained for warmth as there is no thermostat to set for forced heat.

If rented, the Rhino will get you up the hill, but we cannot guarantee the quality, nor quantity of the snow, which may challenge the Rhino. You may need to be prepared to hike/ski in. Also, the Rhino is an open air vehicle. Be prepared with layers suitable to the current conditions.

The electricity comes from solar panels, and those may need to be cleared during your stay in order for the system to work.

If there are any questions, please don't hesitate to contact Katherine.

What a beautiful way to beat the summer heat!

  • 5 of 5
Had a wonderful time. If you want to get isolated this would be the place. Coming from Florida the morning temp was 45, evening 60 - great summer heat relief!
Our Wrangler Unlimited had no problem climbing the rugged 4x4 Alpine type access trail to get there and once at the top it was worth the traverse. Make sure you stay on 20A and not go up the Mine road as I did by mistake.
We used the cabin as a base to explore the Alpine loop and surrounding area.
The accommodations are great and I can see why someone would only go there and stay awhile to decompress. Come prepared with food as it is off the grid, but 30 minutes down the 4x4 trail and you are in Silverton.
We had a great vacation and would return and would recommend it to anyone looking for a nice mountain get away.

Perfect!!!

  • 5 of 5
We stayed at Blair Mountain Cabin for 10 days, It was everything we could have hoped for and more....we spent the days riding the mountain passes and the evenings enjoying the views, and all the amenities of home....a side from the lack of cell service which was welcome. Perfect for a couple or family.

Absolutely Amazing!!!!

  • 5 of 5
Our family just recently stayed at the Blair Mountain cabin and it was absolutely amazing. If you want the amenities of home, however away from everything this is for you. There is nothing like waking up each morning above the clouds, and 40 degrees in August. This is a place you can really unwind and get away from it all(blackberry, internet, phone, etc..) If you enjoy the outdoors and activities such as ATVing in the mountains, once you get to the property you can ride hundreds of miles of backcountry from the property. Although the property is off the grid, the solar and backup generator are perfect. Quite honestly most would not even know it is off grid. Our boys really enjoyed the ping pong table in the basement as it provided hours of entertainment. The owners(Kathy and Paul) have done outstanding with this cabin as it has everything you will need. Just bring your clothes and food. We are planning a return visit next summer as this is a truly special experience.

We Wanted a Private, Remote Getaway...

  • 5 of 5
We wanted a private, remote getaway, and we got it - in our two weeks plus at the cabin, we never saw or heard another person. Instead we got peace and quiet, wildlife, gorgeous views, and everything we needed to be comfortable. Despite being remote and off-grid, we had electricity, the usual appliances, hot and cold water, real bathrooms (including a shower), and of course a wood stove for heat. The cabin itself is beautiful; the description and photos don't do it justice. Everything was spotlessly clean and neat, more so than our own home generally is :) We've been to the San Juan Mountains quite a few times, and until now have always been disappointed with our lodging. On this trip, our lodging was the centerpiece of our experience; our "base camp" for lots of offroading and hiking, on our quests for wildflowers and wildlife. My wife and I (and our two dogs!) will be back next year for a repeat. We'd recommend this cabin to friends and family in a heartbeat.

Excellent Location for Honeymoon

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I were able to stay at this property for our honeymoon. The cabin was beautiful and the scenery was amazing. Our families were still in Silverton, so this was a great refuge to start our lives together. I couldn't even begin to describe the beauty of the cabin or the care of decorating and maintaining such a wonderful oasis, but this cabin was obviously built by those who loved the land and are concerned about the comfort of those staying there. I would recommend this facility to anyone for any reason, but for my husband and I, it will always be the perfect honeymoon spot... Peaceful, serene and full of love and beauty.
