Wonderful stay, charming bungalow

4 of 5
Submitted: October 24, 2012 Stayed: October 2012
We had a wonderful girls weekend stay at this charming bungalow. Situated perfectly in Belmont, walking distance to several restaurants including MAS, as well as a short 10 minute walk to the downtown mall. It also is very close to the University of Virginia. The place is updated with all of the features needed for a weekend, and very tastefully decorated. The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars is because there is one bedroom with a full bed and it's a little tight for two people, although the place is perfect for a couple and two others, or a family of 4. Janice was wonderful in providing all of the amenities and was very helpful. Overall, we had a great time and would stay again.
Owner's Response: There is a nice comfortable twin air mattress available if any quests traveling together do not wish to share the full bed. Thank you

Convenient Bungalow Full of Charm!

5 of 5
Submitted: April 5, 2012 Stayed: March 2012
I just can't say enough good things about this rental. My family stays at vacation rentals a few times a year, and I can honestly say this was the nicest one we have ever seen! The house is beautifully and thoughtfully restored; everything is pristine and in great condition. Ever stayed at a rental and suspected that it was decorated with old cast-offs from the owner's house? Not at Boxwood bunglalow! The furniture, the fixtures, the linens are all of great quality. The towels are fluffy and soft...and did I mention the jacuzzi tub? Everything was just as described...or usually even better.

Janice is a very thoughtful hostess. She also handeled communication in a very timely and friendly manner. I didn't meet her, but I have a feeling that she asked herself what she enjoyed while traveling, and then furnished this house accordingly. There are varied and plentiful snacks provided, as well as juice and coffee. Janice even asked me in advance if we wanted anything in particular for our coffee, and then supplied us with the very specific kind of milk I need due to some health issues. We loved drinking our morning coffee on the front porch.

The house is located on a quiet residential street, yet is a short walk to coffee, restaurants, and the Charlottesville pedestrian mall. There is a well maintained yard with lovely plantings - we were lucky enough to be there when the azaleas and lilacs were in bloom.

All in all, it was a great weekend, and the house would be my first choice of place to stay should we ever go back to Charlottesville.

Wonderful autumn weekend

We spent a delightful autumn weekend in Charlottesville, visiting our daughter at UVA for parents weekend. The bungalow was a perfect place for us to stay, more spacious and with much more warmth and character than any hotel in the area could have provided. And there are several delightful restaurants just a stroll up the street. It is a charming lodging option and we will surely be back.

I didn't want to leave!

I didn't want to leave!

To say the Boxwood Bungalow is like a home away from home is an understatement. From the minute I set foot in the charming brick home, I felt like I was visiting the home of a friend, rather than that of a complete stranger. It was a shame we had so many things to do in Charlottesville, because I would have been content sitting out on the wide front porch with a glass of Virginia wine. As it was, we were just a short walk away from the Downtown Mall and picked up the free trolley to get us to Grounds (although in truth, we could have walked it). We ran into the owner, who couldn't have been nicer. In addition to recommending some great restaurants (Zocalo, I will return for another round of Mexican chocolate bread pudding!), she gave us directions to a fantastic hike up the Saunders Trail that ended at the Monticello Visitors Center. It was a beautiful hike, but all uphill! I felt like I got to work off some of the bread pudding, at least, while taking in some beautiful Albemarle County scenery.
After seeing all the sights for the day, it was so much nicer to return to the bungalow than a hotel. I was so happy to hit the shower - and a great shower it was! Perfect water pressure, big plush towels, and lovely fragrant soaps washed the day away. By the time I climbed into the beautiful antique bed with the super soft sheets, I was pleasantly numb and ready for a good night's sleep. Goldillocks would have agreed that the mattress was just right, and I slept like a baby. In the morning, we were thankful to have a coffee maker handy, although we also walked up the street and enjoyed a coffee at La Taza.
I can't say enough positive things about our stay at the Boxwood Bungalow. It's fastidiously clean, beautifully decorated, ideally situated, and Janice seems to anticipate anything her guests might need. I only wish we could have stayed longer! As long as this place is available, I'll never stay anywhere else in Charlottesville, that's for sure.
