Situated on the tip of a peninsula that extends three-fourths of a mile into Big Mantrap Lake, this three and a quarter acre property has almost 1,100 feet of shoreline. Named for its many bays, inlets, and channels, Big Mantrap Lake is known as a Muskie lake, but it is also home to large and small mouth bass, northern pike, and crappie. This 1,556 acre lake boasts many miles of undeveloped shoreline, making it a wildlife haven for deer, otters, beavers, foxes, loons, eagles, ospreys, and numerous other birds and animals.
The interior of the 1,400 square foot cabin is finished in knotty pine, giving it a true north woods feel. The 24' x 24' Screened-in Porch that overlooks the lake is perfect for bug-free eating and relaxing. It is also a great play area for kids, particularly during inclement weather.
The waterfront is highlighted by a 100 Foot Dock which has a large platform, as well as a Boat Lift for a ski or fishing boat. The dock is perfect for sunning, swimming, or dock fishing, and it provides a jumping-off point for kayaking, canoeing, water skiing, tubing, fishing, and other water related activities.
Sleeping space is maximized. One bedroom is outfitted with two sets of bunk beds, and the other has a queen-size bed. A double bed is located on the porch, a sofa in the living room converts to a double bed, and a rollaway bed is also available. Tents have been pitched near the waterfront for sleeping quarters for the more adventuresome.
Jim and Anne Crabbe are the owners. Jim's parents purchased this northwoods paradise in 1959, and Jim and Anne honeymooned there in 1962. Since then, they and their three children (and now eight grandchildren) have spent time almost every summer in this secluded getaway. With their retirement in 2008 (which meant time to spend entire summers "up north"), Jim and Anne built a second cabin for themselves on the property. The second cabin meant that the existing cabin could be used by their kids and grandkids, friends, and renters who love the northwoods as much as they do.
We love the wildness of the area and the privacy of the site, and we think others of similar interests will enjoy vacationing on Big Mantrap.
As an avid fisherman, Jim enjoys being on a lake with minimal fishing traffic. Both Jim and Anne are golfers and can often be found on the challenging Headwaters Golf Course in nearby Park Rapids. This property is not for those who are looking for bright lights and a fast-paced vacation. Rather, it for those who prefer to wear jeans and t-shirts while they kick back, enjoy the serenity of nature, and take part (or not) in water and outdoor activities.
